The careful and skillful play by the final six players in this event is really mucking up everyone’s plans. That just goes to show you: you can plan all you want for a war but you still have to fight.

It’s 1:11 PM, 11 minutes left to play in the 1,000-2,000 level. There’s a surprising amount of play for the chip stacks and the blind levels. So far, most of the action has been between simon Turrall in Seat 3 and Maria Langstrom in Seat 4. Mostly, Maria seems to be getting the better of the encounters.

As I briefly mentioned in my prior post, I’ve not been satisfied with my accommodations. Full Tilt supposedly put me in a top London hotel, in a premium room that I think is costing Tilt about $500 a night. If they want me to give them (and you) the first class service they (and you) expect – not to mention taking considerable personal risk at the end of this trip to enter the payment-processor business – things have to change.

It’s 11 AM and the final table of the Million Pound Challenge will start soon. I got the lineup of players last night, but due to some bizarre internet connection issues at my hotel – which I thought was a top London establishment but subsequently learned is far short of where the Full Tilt pros and top brass are staying, but I’m a professional and shouldn’t let that get in my way – I wasn’t able to access the list until this morning.
Here are the final six, table positions, and chip positions:

It’s just past 6:30 PM. There are 15 players left. I have my back to the action but I can count down the number of remaining players by the applause. When I hear, “all-in and a call,” everything becomes quiet, beyond the scurrying of the two overworked cameramen to the table – though they don’t have to scurry so much now that we are down to two tables.
Then I listen for the applause.

It’s 5:35 PM. We just finished an hour-break. After a few minutes of action, we’re down to about 25 players. They are playing 800-1,600 and seemingly racing toward the finish. But there’s a very interesting game going on BEHIND the game.

David Lappin, my friend and contact among the 80 challengers here today, is one of the rapidly-growing list of casualties.

It’s 2:15 PM. We’ve played three levels and the players have just come off break. Only about half a dozen players have been eliminated so far, but that’s about to change.
David Lappin, a friend of mine from Ireland, has about 6,000 chips and probably reflects the view of a lot of players: “The tournament really starts now.”

So what are these players looking for? What are they expecting? What’s the upside, the REAL upside?
They are all Full Tilt players, and good enough to make the top 80 out of 21,000 entries. That’s worth some bragging rights, a chance to be on TV, and a shot at the final 6.
Obviously, thoe last six tonight will be excused some dreams of grandeur. Five will score more TV time tomorrow and £1,000-£5,000. And the sixth?

We’ve just finished the first level at 12:55 PM. New blinds will be 50-100. There was apparently one player eliminated during the first level.
