#636 - Engulfed by Biloxi #6 - Final Table Trouble
I’m writing this at 3 AM on Tuesday. I just reached the final table in the HORSE event at the Southern Poker Championship here at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. We played 14 1/2 hours and the final table starts at 4 PM. This is both good and bad news.
Good news, of course, because I’m going to win some money. And good news because it confirms my belief in my abilities as an all-around tournament player.
The bad news? This pokes a big fat hole in my blog-centric work-ethic. I took some good notes during the day and should be able to write a useful essay on how running a tournament is a lot harder than you would imagine, illustrated by how this tournament is run compared with the oft-criticized WSOP.
But I haven’t written that yet. Nor have I written my amusing anecdotes about the history of poker in Mississippi. Or my thoughts about the Tom Dwan/Phil Ivey rumble. And I haven’t had the time to contact some people who should have some interesting things to say about it.
And then there’s the matter of the megasatellite I was thinking of playing for the Main Event (which starts Wednesday). Tuesday was going to be my day to try and qualify. If I do that after the final table, another writing/investigating/commentating day is shot to hell.
To paraphrase Al Pacino, “Everything I try to get out, I keep pulling me back.”
I’ll try to write some tomorrow before the final table as well as let you know how that experience goes. And then there’s the matter of justifying my existence as a writer of this blog to Full Tilt. Gotta fit that in someplace, huh?

GL @ final table. Cannot believe FT didn’t BEG you to cover Aussie Millions. Best coverage I’ve read. Felt like I was there.
