#716 – Piled up on the News Desk, Part III – Dwan v. Antonius – Update #3
In a pair of sessions over the last few days, Patrik Antonius erased Tom Dwan’s six-figure lead in their challenge match and briefly opened a lead of his own. But in the last session, Dwan won and the match is essentially tied. According to Full Tilt’s durrr Challenge Page, this is how the match stands:
• 5,928 hands
• Dwan ahead by $15,238
• 10 sessions
• 18 hours 35 minutes
As I had said during a previous update, a lead of $100,000 or even more counts for little at this stage. They still have 44,000 hands to play. A few trends, however, are emerging. First, it seems Tom always wins more hands. So far, he has won 3,208 hands to Patrik’s 2,699. Second, Antonious is winning bigger hands. In his average winning hand, he has won $2,127.57 versus $1,794.97 for Tom Dwan. The numbers have looked like this since the beginning, with Dwan apparently stealing more but Antonius having the better of it when they contest a pot.
Update on the Update: After I wrote this (Monday afternoon) but before I posted it (Tuesday early afternoon), Tom and Patrik played another 600 hands (about 2 hours). Tom widened his lead and is now ahead by about $67,000. This despite Antonius winning the two largest hands of the session. They have now played 6,633 hands.
