At 10:30 AM, the end of the first level of play, while Sam Farha and a stunned David Williams were doing their stand-up to describe their match, tournament announcer Jordan says from the back table, “Huck Seed is all-in …. and David Oppenheim calls.”
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA???????
Seed had the chip lead and showed 8-8. Oppie showed A-Q. It was a coin-flip, but David got no help on the flop and an eight on the turn ended the match.

It’s not even 10:30 AM. The featured quarterfinal match of Sam Farha and David Williams was less than fifteen minutes old, and it’s suddenly over. As they stand in front of the table to do a TV interview with LeeAnn Tweeden, you can see that David can barely believe it.
David had Q-6 and flopped a full house, Q-Q-6. The both checked after a four on the turn and got it all-in after a ten on the river. Sammy showed Q-T for a higher full house.
The first match in the quarterfinals ends that fast, and badly for David Williams.

The day starts with eight players, four matches. I wish I didn’t have to pick winners in these matches, because that means I’m picking a loser, too.

Daniel Negreanu was the last to arrive for the group photo before the match, and he stole the show. In preparation for his match with Scotty Nguyen, he showed up with a curly/mullet wig, a pile of gold chains on his wrist and neck, and snake-skin cowboy boots. To seal the deal, he was calling everybody “baby.” Got great laughs.

I’m right behind the Huck Seed-Glen Chorny match and, yes, I’ve been informed that I’m not allowed to stand up until after the matches are over. No celebrities in the money this year, all pros. Lindgren and Williams are the feature match and, though each of these matches has a fascinating angle, that’s a good choice.

At 7 PM, the final two players in the Hearts and Diamonds brackets face off, to fill the first four spots in the Final 8. At 9:30, Day Two will conclude with the last pair of matches in the Clubs and Spades brackets.
My predictions in the Round of 32 were uninspiring. I ended 8-8. In my heart, but not with the bookies, I could have been 9-7. I thought Paul Wasicka would beat Don Cheadle but wanted to acknowledge what a serious player Cheadle was and not make the easy pick in pro vs. amateur. But it is what it is and I’ll take another crack.

Just as the second level was concluding, all hell broke loose. Tom Dwan busted Barry Greenstein. Jeff Ishbia, very low on chips, doubled up against Phil Hellmuth. Elky busted Ilarie. Daniel Negreanu busted Dario Minieri. And Paul Wasicka won a pot worth almost all the chips against Don Cheadle.
All this between 4:38 and 4:44.

We started right on time at 4 PM with the second half of the Round of 32. We were told in press row – actually, I was told this, because I’m the only one in press row who can’t sit still for two hours – that we shouldn’t get up during the round, so I officially have the worst seat in the house with no hope of improving this round.

Just as I finished the last post, at 2:20, Scott Fischman and David Williams got it all-in. Williams got away with limping with pocket aces. Fischman had K-5, caught a King-high flop, and the aces stood up. David Williams took the lead but I still don’t like the move.

From my corner seat in the bleachers, I have a great view of Brad Garrett and Glen Chorny, which also means I can’t see anything of the other matches. So I’ll follow this one – mostly, I’m sure, listening to Brad Garrett’s running commentary – and insert what I learn of the other matches as I learn it.
The round starts with each player having 20,000 chips. Blinds begin at 300-600. Levels are 15 minutes. At 1:28, cards are in the air.
