An invisible army roams the world at night, silently connecting us with the fruits of our economic existence. Until I started buying custom shoes from Nike, I never thought much about the movement of commerce. But now, when I order shoes or some other item, they send me the UPS.com tracking information. That has allowed me to follow my merchandise from its point of origin to my feet.

I still get asked frequently what is happening with Andy Beal. Some people want to know whether he’ll be back to play some more high-stakes poker. Others just want to know the next chapter of his remarkable story, regardless of whether poker is involved. Because I’m still in contact with Andy and I respect how he likes his privacy, I usually tell people nothing or say something very general. But now I have some Andy Beal news to share.

I’m definitely not out of danger yet, but I am continuing my rebound from the Brink of brokeness. Last Sunday, with a little more money in my account, I was able to consider playing some bigger tournaments on Full Tilt. The only big Sunday event that I actually played was the Sunday Brawl though my own performance in a few other tournaments made it easy to skip all the other big $150-$200 buy-in tourneys.

It was a long day, I played extremely well, I went very deep in two tournament … and ended up with a profit of $100.

The schedule for FTOPS XII (May 6-May 17) is now in place. If I wasn’t so broke – especially due to the role FTOPS I-XI played in my brokeness – I would probably be excited. There is more guaranteed money than ever, a great variety of events, lots of superstack events, and even a group of companion events, Mini-FTOPS, running on an identical schedule with 1/10th the buy-ins. But instead, I’m thinking of boycotting out of protest.

Last Sunday, with under $500 in my Full Tilt account, I had to contemplate an entirely new poker schedule. Instead of deciding how to divide my attention among the dozen or so $150+ tournaments, I was checking the starting times of the $1 events and debating if I could afford a single $50 + $5 turbo satellite to the $750,000 Guarantee.

It sucks being broke.
