Last Thursday, just hours before my marathon commitment to the Scottsdale Relay For Life began, I played a trio of double-heads-up matches against three talented players from the Dublin Bellybusters: LAPPIN, Rounder63, and Dr Fill Good. As I previously mentioned, the Bellybusters have been good friends (I met David Lappin in London last fall) and great supporters of my charity. After Dr Fill Good won my second Relay tournament and donated his winnings to the Scottsdale Relay, we arranged this match to benefit the Relay.

This Friday is the Scottsdale Relay For Life. But between now and then, it’s all about ACTION. FTOPS XII starts tonight (Wednesday), Patrick Antonius has made a major advance in his heads-up epic with Tom Dwan, and it’s put-up or shut-up time between me and the Dublin Bellybusters.

I’m always impressed, but never surprised, by the generosity of poker players. In several recent blogs I’ve pointed out how poker players have stepped up in this rotten economy to donate to good causes as other people and businesses cut back. This post is a shameless woo-hoo for all out us, though I’d like to single out the Dublin Bellybusters, members Patrick (Dr Fill Good) and David (LAPPIN), Railbirds.com, virtual poker communities and, heck, poker players everywhere. Annie Duke wasn’t exaggerating when she said, “Poker players are the most awesome people in the world.”
