David Chiu came close to winning his fifth bracelet yesterday, finishing runner-up in the $10,000 Mixed Event. We’ve got a big day ahead on Sunday, with a pair of World Championships kicking off, the Ladies at noon and the Omaha-Eight-or-Better at 5 PM. It’s also my daughter Valerie’s dance recital and my return to Vegas (after the recital).

COMPLETED EVENTS
Event #11 – $2,000 NLHE
Starters: 1,646
Prize Pool: $2,995,720
Places Paid: 171
Winner: Anthony Harb $569,254
Note: Jim Geary finished third. Jim is a friend of Andy Bloch, so of course he’s an unconventional-genius-games-player. He is one of the best competitive Scrabble players in the world, and this is his second final table of the 2009 Series.
Event #12 – $10,000 Mixed Event World Championship
Starters: 194
Prize Pool: $1,823,600
Places Paid: 24
Winner: Valle Wahlbeck $492,375
Full Tilt pros in the money:
2. David Chiu $304,176
5. Huckleberry Seed $102,286
17. Eric Froelich $16,649
20. John Cernuto $16,649
Notes: Vitaly Lunkin cashed in this event on Friday night, so Full Tilt had five pros in the money, all of them multiple bracelet winners.
CHIP COUNTS
All counts are courtesy of the World Series of Poker. Transcription errors are mine and, though I’ll do my best to keep an updated list of who at the Series is affiliated with Full Tilt, apologies for misattribution. I will attempt immediately to correct any errors brought to my attention (mrchaotic@aol.com).
Event #13 – $2,500 NLHE
End of Day 2
Starters: 1088
Prize Pool: $2,502,400
Places Paid: 117
Remaining: 20
Chip leader: Gregg Merkow 932,000
9. Roland de Wolfe 400,000
20. Phil Ivey 31,000
Full Tilt pros in the money:
39. Svetlana Gromenkova $9,834
Note: Beth Shak finished on the bubble … Phil Ivey is by far the shortest stack remaining, having lost almost all his chips on one of the last hands of the night, in which he re-raised with A-T and found the original raiser with A-K. The odds are very long on Phil winning a bracelet in this event, but there’s probably some money riding on it.
Event #14 – $2,500 LHE 6-handed
End of Day 2
Starters: 367
Prize Pool: $844,100
Places Paid: 35
Remaining: 11
Chip leader: Tommie Horkko 509,000
Notes: Daniel Negreanu is making a serious run at his fifth bracelet. He already has a pair of limit-hold-’em bracelets and is sitting two seats to the left of Tommie Horkko, the only player who has him outchipped. I don’t know what Daniel’s Finnish accent sounds like, but I bet he tries it out on Tommie, who hails from Finland … Barry Shulman, owner of Card Player and a bracelet winner, is chip leader at the other table.
