During the first week of the the World Series, Annie Duke was approached by her old friend, Steve Zolotow. Steve said, “I have a piece of mail for you.” Steve Z had seen Donna Harris, Poker Director for the Mirage, and Donna had asked Steve if he could pass along a letter addressed to Annie – at the Mirage.

This is the actual envelope. Notice how it was addressed AND how it managed to make it to its intended recipient.

Yep. “Annie Duke, POKER PLAYER AND WINNER of the May 10, 2009 Event, The Mirage HOTEL AND CASINO, LAS VEGAS, NV 89109, Please Forward.” (May 10 was the broadcast date of the final episode of Celebrity Apprentice.)

The letter was actually a copy of one sent to Donald Trump. I was with Annie when she received it from Steve Z, so I know this wasn’t made up. And the letter, typed on a manual typewriter, is so over-the-top weird and funny – and often correct in its sentiment – that it simply COULDN’T have been invented. This is a reproduction of the letter from Mrs. R.O. [I removed her full name and address but I note that, despite the sometimes ransom-note style and typing, that was my decision; this was not sent anonymously], with original emphasis and typos where possible:

Dear Mr. DT’s:

I’ve watched all of the APPRENTICE shows and I must say last night’s (May 10th) was despicable! From the onset throughout the shows, you showed favoritism to the harridan Rivers (letting them spew hate, lies, venom, unimaginable insults to ANNIE DUKE, all the while doing absolutely nothing to control or stop them. You seemed to relish this mayhem. Had this been a male apprentice acting out, you would have sent him packing. What’s with the double standard, DT’s?

When the time came to choose the WINNER, you glowered at ANNIE DUKE who had worked so hard and honorably hesitated, relishing the moment before plunging the knife and announcing “YOU’RE FIRED!” You never did this a finalist winner … Instead, addressing the winner, first and announcing “YOU’re HIRED.” A lousy, low down thing to do. *She said on L.King’s* show, she was booed uproarously upon leaving and given some fingers. I can’t tell you how great, how truly great I felt. (It hurt her fragile ego, it seems). Several times, your most able assistant reminded Annie … MONEY is not the only requisite …. preparing her for loss. How low can one get? Especially that 3 out of 5. Food for thought. Did Rivers only accept entering the Apprentice game, on the premise that either she or her funny looking daughter would win.

I heard you last night on L King’s show. With your peacock announcement, that the show got the highest rating. You just don’t get it, Donald Trump. Take a Kodak moment. The common view … Do you think we watch it to see you or your cohorts. We watched it to see Rivers get zapped. Why don’t you admit it. You’re afraid of her, afraid if you didn’t choose her, she would berate you, your hair piece, your marriage and failures. I saw her kissing up to the great Donald, when she mentioned (on the homosexuals. Giving you support for what you might rule today on the Miss Calif. situation. Talk about Birds of a Feather…

YOU BLATANTLY USED ANNIE DUKE and totally wronged her. How would you like to be called HITLER, A TRASHY GAMBLER, A MAFIA AND other stuff sewer mouth spewed. How would you take it? With a fat law suit? I’m happy you pleased NBC and your producer. No need denying it. You’re a male JR. Same level. Stay with it and don’t change it. It suits you.

If I may offer a piece of advice before closing, please have one of JR’s plastic surgeons sculpture your face to look like hers….devoid of CHARACTER AND PRINCIPLE.

I would like to wish that ADVERSITY Follow you and your chosen TODAY and FOREVER but that sounds like harridan SEWER MOUTH!
