Just 64 players left and one of them is Phil Ivey. Expect big ratings for the ESPN package this year, even better if he makes it to November. In fact, I’ll say it right now: Ivey making the final table will be the biggest thing for TV poker since Moneymaker won it in 2003 – for the opposite reason. Chris Moneymaker showed that Everyman and play with the best. After six years, Phil Ivey (who just missed the final table that year) symbolizes reclaiming the World Championship for the pros.

29. Fabrice Soulier 3.025M
Other notables and guys I know (or guys with guys I know):
6. Antonio Esfandiari 5.61M
I gave up my seat at the NBC Heads-Up Championship a couple years ago so he and his family could watch Shannon Elizabeth play. C’mon, Tony, isn’t that worth at least 1%?
12. Jeff Shulman 4.745M
Jeff’s name hasn’t shown up on the leaderboard in the last couple years but he is like a stealth bomber in late stages of the Main Event and the WPT Championship. And his CardPlayer.com has several of my articles – for which I graciously accepted his [under]payment – in its archive. 1%?
27. Scott Cook 3.095M
I just wrote about him in Seen & Heard (see above). I figure Full Tilt should ship me 5% for hooking them up and Scott should offer me 5% as a commission for BEING hooked up.
31. Ryan Fair 2.94M
One of my correspondents, Alan, told me he went to middle school and high school with Ryan. That should be worth at least .5%, 1% if I make contact with Alan’s friends who are still tight with Ryan.
34. Tom Schnider 2.985M
Tom’s a Scottsdale guy and a friend. I can’t really figure out any reason why the 2007 WSOP Player of the Year should give me a piece of his action, but I really like his wife Julie yet I never tried to hit on her. Can someone say “one percent”?
43. Dennis Phillips 2.305M
Who is this guy? Fucking Rambo? We played together at Annie Duke’s charity tournament at the start of the Series and I wrote what a nice guy he is, so I get 1% for that. But I also wrote at least year’s final table about some guy rooting for him yelling loudly and gumming his chants around a solitary tooth. I say I should still get 1% but be required to donate half to dental-care education.
56. Joe Sebok 1M
Before Joe had ever cashed at the World Series, he started a column with Card Player about being a new poker player. When someone criticized him because he had some kind of unfair advantage over other new players because of his stepfather Barry Greenstein’s money and skill, I set the guy and everyone else straight with the true facts, as well as the burdens of having that kind of poker legacy hanging over his head at the start. I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume Joe (a) remembers that, (b) appreciates it, and (c) still has my e-mail address and cell number, in case he needs bank-wire information.
58. Scott Bohlman 865k
Scott and I played a final table at the Series a couple years ago and have been friendly ever since, running into each other on numerous occasions. He’s clearly a big underdog at this point, so I’m rooting for him without thoughts of renumeration. But if he rallies to make the November Nine – and especially if Full Tilt signs him up – my cashier’s window is hereby re-opened.
60. Prahlad Friedman 840k
I just know the guy by TV and reputation, like all of you. But I’d counsel him to lose the rap-riffs from his routine, which oughta be worth something.
