scale #889 Looking For Ivey, Part IIC – Outtake: The Unbearable Lightness of Ivey

As I told you in The Ivey Code, Phil spent his off-time during the 2008 World Series of Poker drumming up action. His bracelet bets were the talk of the Seriess. But remember, Phil Ivey bets on EVERYTHING. During one event, I was sitting at a table with Howard Lederer when he told me he got a call from Erik Seidel that day at 3am.

“Phil Ivey is driving out to your house right now. Do you have a scale?” Ivey and Seidel had made some kind of weight-loss bet in the middle of the night and Ivey needed to get weighed, pronto.

Howard waited outside his house in the dark with a scale. Phil showed up, asked how the digital scale operated, and stepped on it, fully clothed and carrying a Blackberry. Ivey then started chewing out Howard for not being trusted to give an honest weight. Howard texted Erik with the weight and then Seidel proceeded to chew out Lederer. Seidel asked “How many rolls of quarters did Phil have in his pockets while he was standing on the scale?”
