This is really unusual, but I’m taking a week off from playing poker online. The only time I’ve done that all year has been when I was at the World Series of Poker, so it was hardly “a break.” I’ll be doing work on the Blog during that time, but I’m getting away from playing for a little while.

My birthday is today (Monday) and my daughter Valerie’s bat mitzvah is Saturday, so I’ll be entertaining a hundred people this week. But if I needed any other reason to get away from the game, I got it on the last hand of my last tournament of one of my worst tournament days of the year. I re-raised with T-T, caught a flop of A-A-T, and lost. That’s because my opponent raised and called with K-8o, called my bet on the flop -I dare you to figure THAT one out – then took the betting lead when he hit a king on the turn. He was 100-to-1 dog after the flop and 10-to-1 dog after the turn.

But he had the faith of a True Believer and his another king on the river to make a higher full house.

Good reason to take a break, huh?

Happy birthday faithful blogger-player! Best wishes for the most tilt-free week a guy could ask for. (That last hand you described could take a couple of days to get over!)

Belated birthday wishes Michael, enjoy your break, just heard Gus hansen is taking a break from poker too to study his game. Do you think taking a break makes you a stronger player?
