I wanted to thank everybody who participated in last Sunday’s Relay for Life Charity Tournament on Full Tilt. Thanks to you I raised another $820 for the Scottsdale Relay, all of which will go to the American Cancer Society. In particular, thanks to the people who publicized the tournament in their forums and online communities, and to pros Andy Bloch, Berry Johnston, Brian Townsend, Cyndy Violette, Frank Thompson, Gabriela Hill, Mandy Baker, Roberto Romanello, and Steve Zolotow.
Okay, I might have made a small mistake scheduling the tournament the same time as the Super Bowl. But I figured everyone was sick of football by now and a lot of people would be looking for an excuse to get away from the game and escape into something like…a charity poker tournament.
So sue me. It was still a good turnout and I heard a lot of nice things from people who played it. (That is, after they got done telling me what a bonehead I was for scheduling the tournament during the Super Bowl.) The tournament was won by sigmund99, who beat out The Grinderette heads-up. I had my best showing ever in one of my own tournaments, though 50th out of 164 is hardly something to brag about. I missed the money by only about three weeks.
Among the appreciative comments and “playful criticism” I received were numerous questions about holding another tournament. I am pleased to report that Steve, a Full Tilt guy so helpful to players that he has, as far as I know, no last name, has approved one more Relay for Life Tournament prior to the 2010 Scottsdale Relay. The tentative date for the tournament will be Sunday, March 28 at 18:00 ET. Stay tuned for confirmation and further details.
On a related note, if you are from the Scottsdale area or are thinking of dropping by Saturday night, April 10 we would love to get you involved in the Scottsdale Relay. It goes from 6pm to 6am at the Saguaro High School track and is a great time for celebrating survivors, remembering those who have passed, and fighting back against cancer. There is also food, music, prizes, and fun of all kinds. If you have any interest, or just want to donate something, email me at mrchaotic@aol.com.
