Blog Moon Rising
The blog is starting to change … slowly. After 14 months, Uncle Tilty and his army of technicians – a rag-tag crew I picture as a cross between the Best Buy breakroom, the guys monitoring the missile silos at Strategic Air Command, and the revolutionaries led by Denis Leary in Demolition Man – have finally freed up the time to work on the blog.
The one change made so far is the reason some of you haven’t seen new entries since the NBC Head’s-Up championship. Please read on for the explanation.

This is the last installment, the end of the greatest poker game I ever saw, maybe the greatest poker game ever played. I’ll try to post the portion of the BLUFF aritcle I wrote about it, so you can compare. Then I’ll get back to Prisoner of the Bellagio, the upcoming FTOPS, and another Adventure in the Law.
Stay tuned!

[Just 2 parts to go in the Valentine's Day 2006 struggle between Ted Forrest and Andy Beal, including this one. I'll probably post the portion of the BLUFF article that covered this game, so you can compare, if you want, my notes of the day with the finished product. I have returned from Las Vegas where I have several more installments of Prisoner of the Bellagio, including another Ted Forrest car story and a story about Dan Harrington's socks. Unless my tax issues create some huge, immediate problem - they definitely create a huge problem, though likely not an "immediate" one - I should get those written and posted over the next several days.]

That was a desperate move. Ted usually shows no emotion but he seems slightly peeved. He should be thrilled. How is Andy going to keep from losing more if he does that? (Is that the old Andy rearing up?)

THE SECOND 37 HANDS
PAGE 618
[I encourage you to read the introduction (#093) and also be patient if you don't enjoy the process of reading through the hands. I noted each hand for several half-hour periods, including the first two half-hours of this game. Especially as Andy Beal jumped out to a lead and Ted Forrest seemed to be playing tentatively, I thought maybe I was keeping a record of the end of the entire match - that Andy Beal would clean out Forrest, win the $10 million, and quit poker with all his questions answered. Of course, life isn't so easily sorted out, especially when poker is involved and especially ESPECIALLY when Ted Forrest is involved. So even if hand notations aren't your thing, note what happened in the big hands as well as the general flow of the money. I hope your patience will be rewarded.]

9:10 AM – Ted’s button. Cards in the air.
[The day before, Ted Forrest had come by to give Andy two gifts from his girlfriend Roxana, who had heard about Beal’s sleep problems. The first was an herbal sleep remedy. The second was a book, Krishamurti’s Freedom from the Known. “If the herbs don’t put you to sleep, this book ought to do it.”]
Andy: “I slept four hours last night. I read that whole philosophy book.”
