I finally finished my cover feature on Phil Hellmuth winning his eleventh bracelet for BLUFF. It ended in a marathon session in which I spent 24 straight hours in my room, ending at about 4:20 PM on Sunday. That left me just enough time to buy into the 5 PM event, $1,500 Mixed Hold ‘Em, but not enough time to think about it. If it turned out to be a mistake, there would be time for that later.

“Sixty-nine fucking hundred.”
I’m trying to fall back asleep at 7:45 AM and those words/numbers are ringing in my head.
Sixty-nine fucking hundred.

When I’m at the World Series, I wish I was home. When I’m home, I wish I was at the World Series. There are a lot of different types of players in a lot of different situations at the Series. My situation is unique, but it shares elements with most of the thousands and thousands playing this year. Integrating the World Series of Poker into your life is difficult.
It’s tough to play and it’s tough not to play.

TRAGEDY – When something bad happens.
REAL TRAGEDY – When something bad happens and you can’t blog it.
Just before noon today, on my way to watching two final tables featuring several of my friends, I discovered that someone had broken into my car. They busted through the front driver-side window and took the navigation system and some copies of the FULL TILT book.

The rest of Friday morning dissolves into a blur of images, of people and places not seen for far too long. We may be a bunch of captured escapees greeting each other in the exercise yard, but it sure seemed good to see everyone and everything – even if some of the memories were bittersweet.

It’s 10 AM and I’m not in the Amazon Room yet. Finally, at 10:20 AM, after 80 minutes, my shoes touch the carpet of the Amazon Room. So what’s it look like, compared with last year?

“Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.” Groucho Marx
On Friday, I participated in the Jennifer Harman charity poker tournament to benefit the Nevada SPCA. These were my notes, prettied up a bit and better organized.

Heat 1 of the second round featured eight matches which varied in advance appeal between ”who?” and ”wow?” What follows were my impressions, noted by time to keep them roughly in order, by match. I started the match planted about six feet from Shannon Elizabeth’s left hip, but by the time the cards were in the air, I had been removed to press row, in the back of the bus.
The cards were in the area at high noon, just 90 minutes after the stage call. They start with 40,000 apiece, and blinds of 200-400.

By the time many of you read this, the matches I’m previewing will be long completed. But read on! The great thing about a competition like this is that anything is possible. When they haven’t played the matches yet, you can imagine anything. While the reality sometimes matches the imagination and on rare occasions exceeds it, every matchup is full of possibility before it happens. This is how the Final 32 shape up:
