I was pleased to see that the music community picked up “We Are the World” for its efforts to provide relief and rebuilding support for earthquake-ravaged Haiti. Prior to Michael Jackson’s death last summer, a pet project of mine had been plotting (plodding?) along on a book about the original song, how it came together, who benefited from the 1985 effort, and some interesting things that happened in connection with that charitable effort in the aftermath.

But all that is just introduction to the real reason for this post: the World Poker Tour (and, similarly, the poker world) has converged on Los Angeles. A pair of worthy charitable efforts – the WPT Celebrity Invitational (and its charity partner Chrysalis) and The Fallen Heroes Fund Fourth Annual Memorial Poker Tournament – should be on your schedule if you are in LA, and maybe even if you aren’t.

I wanted to thank everybody who participated in last Sunday’s Relay for Life Charity Tournament on Full Tilt. Thanks to you I raised another $820 for the Scottsdale Relay, all of which will go to the American Cancer Society. In particular, thanks to the people who publicized the tournament in their forums and online communities, and to pros Andy Bloch, Berry Johnston, Brian Townsend, Cyndy Violette, Frank Thompson, Gabriela Hill, Mandy Baker, Roberto Romanello, and Steve Zolotow.
