”Pure boys!”
For some reason, I remember that line from a high school play. I think it was MUSIC MAN, when the townspeople were expressing their concern about a new pool hall in town.
The pairings party for the heads-up championship was at PURE, the ultra cool nightclub at Caesars Palace, and it was a very nice event.

What if they called a war and no one showed up? Poker is constantly flirting with that possibility. As it gets bigger and bigger, and as the risks to poker’s future expand, I always wonder, at least a little, if this is when the bubble pops, when we all look a little goofy going so crazy over a game of cards.
The Heads-Up Championship is an especially thin-skinned balloon. It’s Big Time TV. They do everything first class. They act like a big sporting event is happening, populated by superstars and celebrities.
What if it falls flat? There was a distinct possiblity, I thought, when I was offered a chance to stand NEAR the red carpet before the pairings party on Thursday night.
