Congratulations to John Juanda, 2008 World Series of Poker European Champion. Like nearly everyone else, I was following the marathon final table from home, thanks to outstanding daily reports from media director Nolan Dalla and superb table-reporting by Pokernews.com.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the trip, I’m planning on staying on in London and start a payment-processor for online poker transactions. Because the government acts like that’s against the law, I’m going to (a) get rich, and (b) become an exile. I didn’t tell Jo Anne much about this because I didn’t want her to be implicated.

11:40 AM
Lazy Sunday Morning

It’s too early for poker, isn’t it? Usually, the only time a poker player is awake at 11:40 AM is when he’s STILL up from a game that started the day before (or the day before that). I signed up for the big tournaments today: Sunday Brawl, $750 K Guarantee, Sunday Mulligan, Sunday HORSE. I’ll decide on the $40k and $65k Guarantees and the $500 + $35 WSOP-E Qualifier on an as-needed basis.

Saturday, August 16
2:35 AM
Wynn Las Vegas

This gig was a bad idea, but strictly necessary. On Friday afternoon, I contemplated a leisurely evening of FTOPS Razz, followed by degenerate FTOPS poker action throughout the weekend, punctuated by taking my wife Jo Anne out for dinner. Saturday was, after all, our twenty-seventh wedding anniversary. And let’s face it, despite my many charms, the total package is too complex (not to mention messed up) for most of the world’s female population. I’m lucky to have Jo Anne and multiply that by infinity for keeping her for twenty-seven years.

Part of my duties hosting FTOPS Event #15 – one of which was NOT busting out in 1,722nd place; I did that on my own thank you very much – included hosting a “pro chat.” I chatted for two hours and answered just about every question put to me, some several times. I’m reprinting the transcript for anyone interested, exactly as it appeared online. Because of the length, I’ve broken it into four parts.

I haven’t disappeared from the face of the Earth, but almost.

I’m with my family this week on the Big Island of Hawaii, renting an oceanside condo on the Kona coast from my friend Marissa. My good friend Marissa. My wonderful friend Marissa.

Have I mentioned how wonderful and terrific Kona and Marissa are?

Because they are. Wonderful and terrific, that is.

NUT JOB

The first thing I noticed on my last day as a participant of the World Series of Poker was the disappearance of the Nutmobile, and that bothered me.

Transplanted New Zealander Des Wilson descends the steps of his plane on an English airstrip, clutching and waving the treaty.

“Peace in our time!”

I am operating under the power of an ancient Italian curse. The curse was placed on me by a lovely young woman named Donna in Seat 3 during the $1,500 LHE event on Friday night.
