For Jo Anne, the 5 weeks of radiation therapy at the conclusion of her treatment for breast cancer were sold to us as a vacation compared with 5 months of chemotherapy. Radiation therapy has generally been much easier for her to handle than chemo but it’s still been inconvenient and intimidating. It’s like we’re almost done with cancer but there still has to be something to remind us how awful it is to be part of your life.

One of the virtues of the Wynn Classic was that it ran events other than No-Limit Hold ‘Em. This is true of many tournaments but with the popularity of NLHE, “giving the people what they want” has meant giving a large group what it wants most to the exclusion of one of poker’s greatest virtues: diversity. I just arrived back at my room after spending a miserable Father’s Day, followed by three very interesting hours in the Amazon Room.
I hated being in Las Vegas on Father’s Day. Not so much that I needed some affirmation from my kids but because I miss them and Jo Anne and feel I’m letting them down by being here, or letting them down if I’m here and don’t accomplish enough.
