Full Tilt Pros Pony up 100k in inaugural WPT Super High Roller Tournament
29 players ponied up $100,000 to play in the first ever World Poker Tour Super High roller event. After day one 17 players remain, Vivek Rajkumar leading the Full Tilt representatives with 1,628,000 chips putting him in second place. Kicking at his heels is Erick Lindgren who sits with just 21,000 less in third place. A shortstacked Erik Seidel brings up the chip count rear but it would be foolish to discount the unofficial 2011 High Roller Master from yet another title this year.
First place will take home $1,092,780 for their efforts, play continues today. Follow updates on the World Poker Tour website.
Andrew “luckychewy” Lichtenberger edges out Brian “Stinger885” Hastings in €5,000 Headsup at EPT Grand Final
Andrew Lichtenberger surged through a star studded field in the €5,000 No Limit Hold’em Headsup Championship at the EPT Grand Final in Madrid, Spain. Of the four spots paid Full Tilt Pros took 3 with James Akenhead losing to Brian Hastings in the Semi Finals earning €19,500.
Brian Hastings blogged about his trip over at CardRunners;
“It was on to the finals, where I faced off against Andrew Lichtenberger aka luckychewy. Andrew was the one player in the field whom I really didn’t want to face, as he has way more HUNL experience than me especially in the recent past. He beat me up pretty good in match 1, but I returned the favor in match 2. Match 3 went back and forth for a while before he took control and won it, and in match 4 I got grinded down before getting my last 4500 or so in with 99 vs AQ and losing. Andrew outplayed me and deserved to win, although he was the real fish because the next day he was supposed to go to El Bulli but slept in and missed his flight and couldn’t get there. What a beat! Anyway, I was very happy with my second place finish.”

Full Tilt Pros Final Table Wynn Classic
Two Full Tilt Pros final tabled the 2011 Wynn Classic on March 25 at the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas. Eric Froehlich and Annette Obrestad finished fifth and second, respectively.
Froehlich went to the final table with the chip lead, but with Obrestad and other pros such as Tim West, Carter King, and John “Nicolak” Kim at the table it was not an easy table for him to run over. Froehlich pocketed $51,410 from his initial $5,000 buy-in from his fifth place finish. Obrestad last a few spots longer and was heads-up with Tim West for the title and the first place money. Obrestad got all of her chips in the middle with Q-10 against West’s K-9 .When the board ran out Q-6-3-K-9, West took the trophy and the $318,738 first place prize. Obrestad took home $215,922 for her efforts.
Durrrr Loses More Ground to Jungleman in Challenge
Last Friday, Tom “Durrrr” Dwan and Daniel “Jungleman12” Cates put in a 780-hand session in the second installment of the Durrrr Challenge. They played four tables of $200/$400 no-limit hold’em and Cates won another $270,453 from Dwan, increasing his lead to just over $1.2 million. About 18,000 hands remain in the challenge.
The biggest hand of the match came when Dwan raised the button and called Cates’ three-bet to $4,400. The flop came 5-6-7 and after a flurry of bets and raises, just under $60,000 from each player got into the middle and Cates was all-in. Dwan showed 5-6, giving him two pair, but had to fade a lot of cards against Cates 7-8, giving him top pair and a straight draw. They agreed to run the turn and river twice and Cates won both of them, giving him the biggest pot of the match.
Session summaries and official challenge stats can be found at the Official Durrrr Challenge Page.

Erik Seidel’s Heater continues at the National Heads up Championship
Team Full Tilt Pro Erik Seidel continued his impressive start to the 2011 tournament circuit with wins in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. At the L.A.P.C., Seidel won the $25,000 buy-in high roller event for $144,570 and finished fifth in the $5,000 heads-up event, good for $14,500.
Just a year after finishing second last year, Seidel won six straight heads up matches for the 2011 NBC Heads-Up Championship. While there have been rumblings about the quality of the field, Seidel had no easy road to win $750,000 and the championship ring. Seidel beat Allen Cunningham, Jennifer Harman, Phil Gordon, Vanessa Selbst, and Andrew Robl en route to the championship best-of-three series against 2003 Main Event Champion Chris Moneymaker. Seidel won the first two matches with little drama to clinch the title.
Seidel has now won over $4 million in 2011 alone, enjoying success in events with buy-ins of $25,000 or more. He is on pace to have a year better than Daniel Negreanu had in 2004, considered one of the best years a player has had since the “poker boom.” Negreanu had made 11 final tables in big buy-in events and had $4.5 million in earnings over the course of the year. By comparison, Seidel already has made 7 final tables and has just over $4.3 million this year. Granted, Negreanu didn’t have high roller and super high roller events back in 2004, but it’s clear that Seidel is on pace for one of the best years in poker history.
Los Angeles Poker Classic Main Event
As the World Poker Tour made its annual stop in Los Angeles, Carlos Mortensen finished third in the $10,000 main event, pocketing just over $640,000. Mortensen was looking to become the first player in WPT history to win four titles, but came up short when his top pair couldn’t fend off Andrew Brooks’ open-ended straight flush draw. Team Full Tilt Pro Allen Cunningham also made a deep run in the main event. His eighth place finish was good for $130,750, but not television coverage, which is limited to the final six.
Nosebleed Action
According to HighStakesDB.com, online player “XWINK” has been putting in a ton of volume at the nosebleed pot-limit Omaha tables lately after running $4,000 in his account up to $4 million in four days.
XWINK took on Team Full Tilt Pros Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey, as well as Red Pro Cole South. At one point in a match against Ivey, XWINK had over $1 million on the table in a cap pot-limit Omaha game.
XWINK posted at 2p2 that he had lost $1.2 million in a day, will cash out a “half a mill or something” and will “continue to play to entertain you guys.”

Hey Tilters. Dave here.
With March Madness just around the corner, we would have liked to do an NBC National Heads up Championship bracket challenge. Unfortunately, the bracket isn’t set yet, and play begins soon after it is. So instead of filling out a bracket, you can win an FTP t-shirt by picking the winner. Here’s how it works:
Leave a comment on this blog post with your (FTP ID in parenthesis). Predict:
– Who will win the National Heads up Championship
– Who will place 2nd
– Who will lose in the semifinals (2 players)
Winning entrant will be whoever correctly picks the winner of the tournament. If more than one entrant guesses the winner correctly, tiebreaker is whoever guesses 2nd place correctly, then the semifinalists.
