My apologies for the lapse in correspondence. Things are about to get very busy for me and this Blog, busier than you could ever imagine. First, the Blog is going through some operational changes. These are taking some time to iron out. Second, I am preparing to go to London on Friday, September 12. From there, I will be writing about Full Tilt’s Million Pound Challenge, the Million Dollar Cash Game, One-on-One with Patrik Antonius, and I’ll be playing in and writing about the Second World Series of Poker-Europe.
I also have a secret to share.

After spending Saturday, August 16, with Kelly Kim, Craig Marquis, and Scott Montgomery, I returned to my room to mull it all over. Apart from really liking the three of them – all three are very nice guys – I was struck by how skilled they all seemed. It goes without saying that you have to do a lot of things right to make the final table, but these guys had all paid a lot of dues. None of them were casual players who played the Main Event on a whim. In fact, based on their discussions about the other players at the final table, I learned that almost all nine were serious professionals.

Kelly Kim’s house in a gated community
Kelly Kim lives in a gorgeous house and I suspect he didn’t buy it in the month between making the final nine and this photo shoot. Kim is clearly doing something right. That’s what I think, as I write at a bar stool and lean against the marble kitchen countertop. The marble is cool on my resting forearms. Despite the blazing sun and the photo shoot outside – 12 feet away – the air-conditioned comfort is almost frosty cool.
That’s the best way to describe it all – Kelly, the house, the vibe, the photo shot: it’s all cool.

Wynn Las Vegas
This gig was a bad idea, but strictly necessary. On Friday afternoon, I contemplated a leisurely evening of FTOPS Razz, followed by degenerate FTOPS poker action throughout the weekend, punctuated by taking my wife Jo Anne out for dinner. Saturday was, after all, our twenty-seventh wedding anniversary. And let’s face it, despite my many charms, the total package is too complex (not to mention messed up) for most of the world’s female population. I’m lucky to have Jo Anne and multiply that by infinity for keeping her for twenty-seven years.

This is the last part of my essay about the 2008 World Series of Poker. If I get a chance, I’ll review my notes from the Series and see if I have any other fun experiences to pass along. But otherwise, this is it for now.

#476 – WSOP Notebook #47 – What I saw at the World Series of Poker, Part IV-A
This is the last part of my four-part essay on my observations about the 2008 World Series of Poker. Becuase of the length, I’m breaking it into two posts.

Apparently, I got some incorrect information and described last week’s ESPN installment of the World Series of Poker.
Whatever. Like, I was in Hawaii. I don’t even know if they get ESPN in Hawaii.

On Tuesday, August 5, ESPN continues its coverage of the 2008 World Series of Poker.
The first episode was a Tiltfest, with Andy Bloch leading nearly all the way, doubling up the short stacks, taking a couple tough losses, and surrendering the lead on a three-way all-in with 9-9 to Nenad Medic’s Q-Q. (Coming in third was Kaathy Liebert with 6-6 on the hand.) Nenad, a Full Tilt pro, took the bracelet and Patrik Antonius, in his first World Series event with Team Full Tilt, finished 7th; Chris Bell, wearing the colors, finished 6th.
Get ready for more on Tuesday. Event #2 was the biggest tournament outside the Main Event in World Series history, with nearly 4,000 starters. Guess who turned water into wine for 3 days and made the final table?
