#791 – 2009 WSOP #49 – Seen and Heard #15 – A London Werewolf in Vegas, Part II
It had been a year since I visited Roland de Wolfe when I saw him playing Chinese Poker with Phil Ivey at what was supposed to be my work table at a London television studio. The general buzz was that Roland had lost a bundle to Ivey so I kept quiet and let them play. Over dinner at a local dim sum restaurant, someone asked how much Phil had won from him, “A lot,” Roland said with kind of a stunned smile, his eyes a little glazed.

Happy Fathers Day! I’m celebrating this Father’s Day, like the last two, away from my family in Las Vegas. (They’re coming to visit next week.) Each of the last two years has been a miserable disappointment, not because of my separation from family – that’s always disappointing – but because I spent a pity-filled day pissing away money on Full Tilt. I’ll be playing on Full Tilt all day, but maybe this time, something good will come of it.

Invariably, the first thing you notice about Roland de Wolfe is his sense of humor. It’s sly, active, and always deadpan. He sneaks up on you that way, seeming shy and low-key at first, until he zings you enough times that you realize he is an outgoing cut-up.

BETTER THAN IVEY!
The guy who won the $5,000 PLO yesterday declined to be interviewed or participate in the Bracelet Ceremony that has quickly become a World Series tradition. Even Phil Ivey, who is legitimately hounded by the international media and disdains all the public trappings of his success, provided that much cooperation. So he better watch out for this Mystery Man.

Roland De Wolfe didn’t win his second bracelet of the 2009 Series but he continued his strong performances, finishing fifth in the $1,500 NLHE. The big action today should be in Day 2 of the $10,000 SEOB World Championship.

Greg Mueller won his first bracelet on Wednesday, taking down the $10,000 LHE World Championship. Roland De Wolfe is making his bid for the second bracelet of the Series today in the $1,500 NLHE, where he starts the day third in chips with twenty-one to go.
