Reader Mail: FTOPS Is Coming!

Welcome back to another round of the crazy circus we like to call Reader Mail. Thanks again to The All-In-Uit for taking over last week – she did one hell of a job filling in for me (not to mention putting me in my place − that was the pwning of a lifetime). Anyway, I can guarantee you that this week’s Reader Mail will not feature any questions from Russians trying to sell me Viagra (insert four-hour erection joke here) – everything else is fair game. Email us at pokerfromtherail@fulltiltpoker.com with any questions, comments, or cool anecdotes about that time you saw Phil Hellmuth make a complete ass-hat of himself. And yes, all that was just an excuse for me to say ass-hat – on to the show:

The Pros Speak (Again): Howard Lederer

In our last post, Chris Ferguson sat down and shared his thoughts on the UIGEA and the state of online poker. This week, we were able to talk to Howard Lederer and get his perspective as well. Speaking as a PPA board member, he discussed what he sees as a favorable future for online poker. Here’s what Howard had to say, in his own words:

The Week at FTP: I Didn’t Jinx Seidel!

Let’s start the week with the really important news; even Big Donkeys get things right once in awhile.

If you’re one of the three people who read my post from last week, you’ll remember that I predicted a WPT victory for Erik Seidel at the Foxwoods Poker Classic. Well, lo and behold, I was right.

Sure, my prediction didn’t earn me anything like the nearly $980K that Seidel took home for the victory, but a couple of fivers from the Monkey, the Captain, and the Inuit will pay for a few brews at the end of the day.

Poker, Sports, and Real Mixed Games

While having a “professional” conversation over drinks, my colleagues and I got into the debate about whether poker is a game or a sport. As you might imagine, there were some disagreements on the subject. Of course, the argument was based on what constituted a sport versus what constituted a game. I’ll not bother with the finer points – our arguments made about as much sense as the UIGEA. However, I did manage to articulate a few thoughts on the subject in a semi-lucid fashion. Amazingly, I remember bits and pieces of this.

Heads Up: Allen Cunningham Versus Chip Jett

Welcome back to another round of the Full Tilt Poker Heads-Up Challenge. Before we get started today, I just wanted to thank The All-In-Uit for taking over Reader Mail yesterday. It was a truly noble act on her part; now let’s all just hope Patrik Antonius drops the restraining order and she finds the happiness that she deserves.

In other news, this week’s match will be a short one due to the fact that I’m now on the run from the police for a crime I was falsely accused of – I’m like The Fugitive, except I’m not as cool as Harrison Ford and I’d never let myself get pwned by a one-armed man. At any rate, this week’s match features a three seed versus 14 seed showdown, with Allen “I wish people would stop calling me Clever Piggy” Cunningham taking on Chip “Husband of Karina Jett” Jett. Check out the full bracket below, on to the show:

Reader Mail: One Sarcastic Monkey

Welcome to yet another week of what we here like to call Reader Mail. I apologize for One Angry Monkey’s absence, the last time I saw him he picked up a trash can, threw it through the office window and ran away screaming – it’s a damn shame our office is on the third floor. The only clue to his actions was the glimpse of an open email from someone called “The Chi” on his monitor before it strangely melted into oblivion. If you would like to extend get-well wishes, or ask some real questions now that you have the opportunity, send an email to pokerfromtherail@fulltiltpoker.com.

The Pros Speak: Chris Ferguson

Following the recent UIGEA hearings in Washington D.C., there’s been more positive coverage (a bit of light at the end of the tunnel?!) of the state of affairs for online poker. In brief, it’s been clearly established that there isn’t an effective method in place for blocking transactions that fund something called “illegal wagering,” banks can’t and won’t effectively police this, and no one has been able to identify exactly what unlawful Internet gambling is. On the whole, it’s extremely vague and incredibly ineffective at achieving any positive end.

Chris Ferguson was in D.C. for the proceedings, and he definitely has some thoughts on what took place. We were able to sit down with Chris and a tape recorder a couple of days after the Senate hearing, and get his take on the current state of affairs for online poker. Here’s his opinion – in his own words:

The Week at FTP: Tastes Like Chicken

Last week we told you about an upcoming hearing on the viability of actually enacting and enforcing the UIGEA. Now we can tell you what happened.

Talk. Lots and lots of talk.

Ladies Night

After my first post, our one loyal, dedicated and deranged reader saw fit to label me as a raging feminist. I’d like to exercise my right of reply by saying that I actually have nothing against men, it’s just that I’ve recently taken up a new religion which mandates me to publicly insult douchebags. With poker being full of well, poker players, I was simply compelled to pen the aforementioned vitriole.

Heads Up: Erick Lindgren Versus Steve Brecher

It’s time for another round of the Full Tilt Poker Heads-Up Challenge, where we take 64 of our top pros and pit them against one another in a deadly game we like to call “synchronized swimming.” Or was that just a dream I had? Hard to tell. At any rate, this post is unlikely to feature any swimming whatsoever, just me drowning in my own words. This week’s match is another three seed versus 14 seed affair, with Erick “I’m probably cooler than you are” Lindgren taking on Steve “I wear my sunglasses at night” Brecher. You can check out the full bracket below, let’s get ready to rumble:
