Poker From The Rail
a Poker Blog brought to you by Full Tilt Poker

After more than three and half years of wandering the FTP campus, it’s finally time for this Big Donkey to move on. And no, it’s not because of the daily whippings from our maniacal overlord or the constant braying of my cohorts calling me to the tables in soft $3-$6 games all over the Strip. My tenure here has simply run its course. C’est la vie.

In the morning, Watts and I order a cab to the Bellagio. Yet again, Watts loses the flip for the ride and has to dish out the 25 bucks. The starting field today has been reduced to 125 players with 100 paying, and my 106,000 chip stack leaves me in decent but not awesome position to make a run at both cashing and going deeper.
My starting table is not exactly ideal for said run. Almost every player at the table is a known player, including Ike Haxton, Todd Brunson, Fatal Error, John Gale, Apestyles and Glen Chorny. The cards get in the air at noon with the blinds starting at 1,200/2,400 with 300 ante. Only an orbit in I get involved:

Today’s blogger list includes some you’ve probably never read. From these five you can learn a little something about the game, get yourself a laugh and then pad your bankroll at the end. Some are famous and one is infamous. I give you one of the best blogger MTT players then easily the worst. An ex-lawyer, a tall flyover funnyman and a link to the Liz Liz Lieu flickr page. There is no rhyme or reason with today’s list. Just some of my favorite people and good reads. Enjoy.

What’s up Pokerland? Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I will not be able to post a Heads Up piece today. I know, I know, this is very horrible news – please dry your eyes. So in lieu of having a massive heads-up battle to look forward to, I just wanted all of our faithful readers to know that we’ve added a new section to the blog called Bloggers On The Rail.
Spearheaded by world famous (infamous?) blogger AlCantHang, Bloggers On The Rail will be keeping everyone up to date on what’s happening in the world of poker blogging and will include posts from a variety of different guest bloggers. So please, please, please go check it out. We just got it up and running earlier this week, but there’s already a few great posts to read from Al. Let’s put it this way: if you’re a fan of poker blogs, this is can’t miss stuff.
That’s all for now people. We’ll be back with another “real” post tomorrow. Have a great day…

On the cab ride to the Bellagio, Sirwatts and I discuss our Day One and our table draw for the day.
“Man I’m so pissed I lost a third of my stack in the last 20 minutes of the day.”
“Nah you’ll be fine Watts, just gaaaaaaaambol like me. Besides, I swapped 5% with you and I have mega swap run good. Do you have any idea what I’m up lifetime in swaps? Like $35,000 or something.”
“Maybe you just suck.”
“Oh for sure, but you’re gonna win either way. Pretty sure I’m fucked though, I just don’t have the dueness anymore.”

Welcome back to another round of Reader Mail. Expect a lot of laughter, crying and head-scratching to ensue. Especially the crying – I tend to do that in bunches these days. Flowing rivers of tears aside, let’s talk about some poker! Email us at pokerfromtherail@fulltiltpoker.com with any comments, questions, or witty tales about your own recent crying jags. On to the show:

It’s nearly impossible to track down when the first blog dedicated to poker hit the internet. In the early days, poker blogs would pop up every day and just as quickly disappear. There were few bloggers who could dedicate their entire site to poker and stay interested enough to keep it going.
My next five recommended sites have not only survived but continue to improve. They offer up their daily words to the poker gods and we thank them by wasting our workday reading them.

With an off day from the Bellagio tournament and a day full of huge guarantees online, there is no way I could pass up playing on the computer. I wake up at 1PM and fire up as many tables as possible, then throw on my headphones and completely zone out.
I was wise to arrange a house with a group of guys who are as big (if not bigger) workaholics as I am, and with the huge Sunday guarantees, there’s no chance anyone in the house would skip playing today. Unfortunately, I only have the laptop to work with, so the most tables I can realistically play is 10, and even that is a major bitch to manage on the one screen. Because of the massive multi-tabling and overlap, I’m forced to play pretty straight forward all day, trying to keep things as automatic as possible.

One aspect of the WSOP that makes it interesting is the number of “amateurs” that end up playing – and frequently going deep – in various events. This is especially true of $1.5K buy-in events, where runners frequently number in the thousands. One of the questions that this seems to beg is, “what’s it take to play in a WSOP event?” While the obvious answer is buy-in money, the proverbial chip and chair are only the beginning.
To get a professional opinion on actually making it happen, our cohort in Vegas was able to get a few minutes of Greg Mueller’s time. Here’s his take, in his own words:
