I’m not sure how I missed this news last week but it seems we have another “challenge” running on Full Tilt Poker. Someone sent me an email last week and this time around we have Nick Rainey attempting to break the record for playing the most SnGs in one month. I’m not exactly sure what that record is, but Rainey will attempt to play 15,000 sit n go’s with a $10,000 profit over 31 days.
Update: I have been informed that the correct number is 16,000 SnGs. Sick.
He has been playing for nearly two weeks and starting to heat up. You can see the challenge details after the break.

Full Tilt Poker Academy – First Challenge
Posted by AlCantHang | Filed under Bloggers on the Rail, Full Tilt Poker Academy
Over the last week I’ve spent quite some time poking around the new Full Tilt Poker Academy checking out the offering, lessons and challenges. I’m impressed with the amount of educational material they’ve loaded into the site with promises of more and more. After going through some of the lessons I decided one evening to fire up my first challenge.
I settled on the Aaron Bartley Sit & Go By the Numbers challenge. SnGs fit into my current schedule and I challenged myself to see how many tournaments it would take me to get through. The challenge lays out 5 tasks to successfully pass. These tasks highlight and force you to practice the ideas which were outlined in his Sit & Go By the Number video.
The 5 tasks for this challenge were:

Guest Post – PirateLawyer – Education of a Poker Blogger
Posted by AlCantHang | Filed under Bloggers on the Rail
PirateLawyer is a blogger (but not a real pirate) who is looking to educate players on some of the problems faced with online poker and how you can deal with them. He starts off with some basic principles to start off his four part series. Feel free to drop a line if you have a comment or question.
The Education of a Poker Blogger
by PirateLawyer
Stubbornness is a character trait that has held me back at the virtual felt of the poker world. Like most amateur poker players of a certain age, I began playing the game before it gained popularity on television, and soon realized that the online poker experience demands a new set of habits and skills. Slowly but surely, through painful trial and error, I have learned some lessons about how to cope with the pitfalls of online poker. I hope this primer will help fellow amateur poker players of the non-genius variety avoid similar mistakes and improve the state of their bankrolls. In Part One, I’ll discuss some basic tools to help you in online play; in Part Two I’ll introduce the concepts of self-control and poker study; in Part Three I’ll discuss experimenting with all of the major variants of poker at low stakes, and do a paired walk through of a successful tournament satellite and main event final table run; and finally in Part Four I’ll introduce some advanced concepts for consideration – reciprocity and the skill of quitting, as well as the need to start balancing your own game against tougher opponents as you move up in stakes (optimal versus exploitive play).

Goatttt Challenge Terms are Set
Posted by AlCantHang | Filed under Bloggers on the Rail
A few weeks ago, our guest blogger Julius_Goat issued a challenge to fellow Full Tilt blogger Michael Craig similar to the durrrr Challenge. Except it would be micro-limit, far fewer hands and nothing major at stake. But completely the same other than that.
Well Mr. Craig responded and now Julius_Goat offers up his end of the bet. I hope this happens and it’s nearly as funny as we all think it will be. You can read his terms after the jump.
(On a serious note, you need to check out the durrrr Challenge stat tracker. Just shy of 6,000 and they are almost dead even.)

Huck Seed won the 2009 National Heads-Up Poker Championship

It was fine timing by the powers that be who run the National Heads-Up Poker Championship. Here in the states, fans are starting to pick up their NCAA College brackets not long after they a field 64 poker players ran through their own tournament bracket. It could not have been easy to narrow so many top players down to just 64, and I’m sure there were some players who felt passed over, but you can’t argue with too many of the selections.

durrrr Challenge update and Patrik Antonius interview
Posted by AlCantHang | Filed under Bloggers on the Rail
It’s been a crazy week in exhile where internet access has been sketchy, travel situations bordering on unbelievable, and my final destination which might prove harmful to my mental health. But that doesn’t mean things have ground to a halt in the poker world.
Since my sudden disappearance fromn the online world we’ve seen Huck Seed win the NBC Heads-Up Poker Championship (continuing the domination of Full Tilt pros in the event), the Battle of the Bloggers 4 rolls along like a beast, Big Money Sunday continues to draw huge numbers for the guarantee events and the Full Tilt Poker Academy is really taking off.

Full Tilt Poker Academy – A first look
Posted by AlCantHang | Filed under Bloggers on the Rail, Full Tilt Poker Academy
I heard awhile ago that we were about to see the launch of the Full Tilt Poker Academy and I was pretty excited. I know the principle people involved in the project, leaving little doubt that the new site would be impressive and educational. The roster of players involved alone guarantees an increase in poker understanding in just a few sessions.
At first glance you can find four short lessons that will kick start your game:
Chris Ferguson – Bankroll Managment
Andy Bloch – Math Made Easy
Howard Lederer – Betting Basics
Phil Gordon – 5 Common Hold’em Leaks
There are other lessons, sessions with the pros where they walk you through their actions in specific hands, podcasts with various players, and different challenges to test your new skills on the Full Tilt Poker tables.
I’ve only spent a few hours digging deep into the Academy to get my initial response. I will spend the next few days really getting into the material and bring you my thoughts in my next post. I am also looking for other players/bloggers interested in sharing their thoughts. If you would like to contribute, you can leave a comment on the blog or send an email to battleofthebloggers@fulltiltpoker.com.

Battle of the Blogger Tournaments Week 1
Posted by AlCantHang | Filed under Bloggers on the Rail
It’s been an interesting week in my world. I somehow managed to pick the locks that were holding me captive in the FTP dungeon and I’ve escaped. In truth, I’m in the middle of a long road trip down the east coast of the US and internet access has been sketchy at best.
It was a bad time to fall off the grid as we kicked off the 4th Battle of the Blogger Tournaments Challenge, an opportunity to get into the World Series of Poker on the cheap and play some fun tournaments.
We started the challenge off with two tournaments on Sunday spanning the width of buyins. The first event was the $5.50 Brit Blogger Game which starts at a perfect time for our players in Europe and a chance for the US players to bail on their familial duties to sling the chips. The other events was the Blogger Big Game for $69+6 and one of the biggest blogger hosted prizepools (largest recorded was last year when 105 players created a prizepool over $7,000).
