Yang-tastic!

Poker’s royalty turned out in force at Pure in Caesars Palace last night for the annual tradition that is the National Heads-Up Poker Championship draw party. For the uninitiated, this is Poker’s version of the Ocsars – well maybe, the People’s Choice Awards – but whatever. The thing is, this is the night where the game’s top players gather together to find out who they’ll be facing in the first round of what has become one the game’s most prestigious events.

Heads Up: Mike Matusow Versus Erica Schoenberg

Welcome back to another round of the Full Tilt Poker Heads-Up Challenge, where we take 64 of our top pros and face them off against each other in a thrilling battle royale. Many will enter, only one will survive. "March Madness" ain’t got nothing on us, baby!

This week we have a very intriguing match up. Number two seed Mike “God Hates Me” Matusow takes on 15th seeded Erica “What the hell am I doing with David Benyamine” Schoenberg. Good versus evil, beauty versus the beast, divine inspiration versus the human cooler. It should be one hell of a fight. Let’s get it on:

Reader Mail: Impotent Poker

Welcome back to another round of Reader Mail, where we answer your complaints about things that we have absolutely no control over. But we try anyway, because why the hell not? We’ve got nothing better to do, and we always love to feel important (rather than our usual state of impotence). You can contact us with your questions, complaints, insane ramblings, and medical inquiries (because I also happen to moonlight as a doctor) at pokerfromtherail@fulltiltpoker.com and we’ll be sure to get back to you at some point – please leave a message after the beep. On to the show:

The Pros Speak: Dag Mikkelsen

Over the past year, Norwegian born Dag “dmmikkel” Mikkelsen has established himself as a solid performer on the live tournament scene. At just 21, he’s developed an impressive professional poker résumé, including WSOP and EPT cash finishes. His most recent accomplishments include third and tenth place finishes at this year’s Aussie Millions, where he earned better than $27K.

We had a few questions for Dag, and here’s what he had to say:

We’re Back

For the two or three people who actually read this blog on a regular basis and noticed that we were gone, we apologize for the abrupt departure. We were experiencing some minor technical difficulties (technical difficulties being code for week-long rum-fuelled bender on The Captain’s boat, of course). We soberly swear never to abandon our faithful readers again without plenty of notice. Until the next bender, that is…

At any rate, our livers have regained functionality and we’re prepared to keep cranking out our exceptional brand of awesome blogtasticness. Keep on reading and we’ll keep on writing. Keep on keeping on…

Reader Mail: Rail Talk

Another week means another opportunity to crack open our mailbox and answer some Reader Mail. The questions are coming in at an overwhelming pace, so keep up the good work. Email us at pokerfromtherail@fulltiltpoker.com if you want your questions answered.

Last week we introduced you to a reader going by the name of “The Chi” who simply wouldn’t leave us the hell alone. We thought that by giving him a shout out and actually posting one of his questions that he’d give us a break. We were wrong. And since the non-stop pestering continues, we have no choice but to respond one more time. Here we go again:

The Pros Speak: Howard Lederer

Welcome back to The Pros Speak. We chat with the pros and find out what’s going on in their lives, ask their opinions, and get to know a little bit about the individuals. We deliver the goods from the pros – in their own words.

Howard “The Professor” Lederer is best known for his legendary poker prowess, and with two WSOP bracelets and two WPT titles under his belt, he’s one of the most intimidating players you’ll run into at any table. The question is, is he this intense away from the table?

The Week at FTP: Another FTOP-ical Post

The madness that is FTOPS has ended and honestly, we couldn’t be happier. It’s not that we don’t love the series – we do – really, we do – but after spending the last 10 days trying to keep track of all the tourney action, we need a break.

Of course, we can’t afford the kind of vacation that Reverse can now treat himself to, but then again, we didn’t just take down more than $456K for winning the Main Event. Nearly 5,300 players ponied up the $500 entry fee for this Mother-of-All-FTOPS events and, in the end, the fight for the gold jersey came down to Reverse and FTP’s own Thomas the Walrus Wahlroos.

Live Highs

I admit it – I’m a horrible online poker player. As much as I may protest this fact in public, in my heart I know the truth. I can’t ever seem to win at the virtual table.

Why this is, I don’t know. I feel like I play solidly and make the right moves at the right times. Of course, as my results unfortunately show, I’m not. The kicker is, however, is that my style online isn’t much – if at all – different than my live style, but my results are decidedly dissimilar.

Heads Up: Howard Lederer Versus Karina Jett

Welcome back to another round of the Full Tilt Poker Heads-Up Challenge, where we take 64 of our top pros and pit them against one another like abused dogs picked up off the street by Michael Vick. This week’s match features number one seed Howard “The Professor” Lederer taking on the 16 seed Karina Jett. Can you say mismatch? Oh well, let’s just get this formality out of the way so we can move on to greener pastures.
