The Week at FTP: It’s Pham-tastic!
Posted by Big Donkey | Filed under The Week at FTP
Last year, David Pham earned his second CardPlayerPlayer of the Year title. Not too shabby.
Now, just four months into 2008, the Dragon is chasing the title yet again. Last week, he took fifth at the WPT World Poker Challenge, which was good enough for nearly $94K in prize money. While the cash is nice (OK, very nice, if you ask us), we know David is really more excited about the fact that he’s now’s in third place in this year’s POY race, and in great position to capture yet another title.

God Bless Variance

I first got into poker because I was fascinated with the mathematics. Being the geeky little Eskimo I am, one of the first things I did was sit down and work out by hand the possible best odds of getting dealt Aces at a full-ring table. I realize by saying that in public I’ve now ruined my chances with all males other than Star Trek fans and video game freaks that have clocked Final Fantasy VII and VIII (KOTR+W-Item duplicate Megalixirs = the nutz btw).

Heads Up: Erik Seidel Versus Brad Booth
Posted by One Angry Monkey | Filed under Heads Up
Welcome back to another round of the Full Tilt Poker Heads-Up Challenge, where we throw 64 of our top pros into the ring for some WWE style madness (editors note: while these “matches” are not fixed like wrestling, they are completely made up and have no baring on reality whatsoever – enjoy!). This week’s cage match is a three seed versus 14 seed affair, as Erik “I thought Chan was bluffing” Seidel takes on Brad “I come from C-eh-N-eh-D-eh” Booth. Let the mayhem commence:

Reader Mail: Turn Off The Doomswitch

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a Panamanian bloodsucking grill-toothed wombat? No, wait. It’s just some good old-fashioned Reader Mail. We apologize to anyone who was looking forward to petting the wombat, but what the hell were you expecting? Go visit a fucking zoo. At any rate, on to the madness – email us at pokerfromtherail@fulltiltpoker.com with any questions, comments, or funny animal names that you’ve made up yourself.

The Pros Speak: Roland de Wolfe
Posted by The Captain | Filed under The Pros Speak
We have a very special The Pros Speak for you today, as Roland de Wolfe is letting us in on his simple three-step strategy to winning this year’s Main Event. We’ll let Roland take it from here:
1. Play as good as Phil Ivey
If you’re going to win the main event, you might want to think about bringing your “A” game. You have to be able to maintain your focus for not only hours on end but days on end. I’m the first to admit that staring at a bunch of other men day after day isn’t always fun, but paying attention to your opponent’s tendencies will pay off. Noticing that your opponent always continuation bets means you can often take pots away from them with a raise. Watching what they do with their hands after a bet may tip you off to the strength of their cards.

Mass-Revolt
Posted by Big Donkey | Filed under Bloggers Corner
The sprit of revolution is still alive and kicking in Massachusetts. So for the moment is the political career of Idiot-in-Chief, Governor Deval Patrick − but that’s another story for another day. Still, I was very pleased to see the news earlier this week that Patrick’s proposal to build three new brick & mortar casinos in Commonwealth while at the same time outlawing online poker went up in flames when the House Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies voted against the bill.
Don’t get me wrong, as a former Massachusetts resident, I’m all for building some real casinos in the state. Sure, Foxwoods is located in the nearby Connecticut woods, but it’s still a good 90 minute (or more) drive from the Hub to the poker room which, let’s face it, is just too far for those of us who can suffer from the poker DTs without our regular fix. We want action and we want it now, damn it!

Heads Up: Gus Hansen Versus Beth Shak
Posted by One Angry Monkey | Filed under Heads Up
Another week means another round of the Full Tilt Poker Heads-Up Challenge is set to commence. Sure, the National Heads-Up Championship just took place and “March Madness” is about to tip off today (my money is on Boise State – go Broncos!), but I still say that we’re the best and most exciting single elimination tourney around. Today’s bout is the last of our two versus 15 matchups, with Gus “The Wilt Chamberlain of Poker” Hansen taking on Beth “I can do a lot of things with poker chips (wink, wink)” Shak. Check out the full bracket below, on to the showdown:

Reader Mail: On Poker And Root Canals

Alright folks, no big intro this week – we’ll save the fancy word play for another time. In the words of Al Green, “Let’s get it on.” No, it’s not an invitation for unbridled sexual ecstasy; it’s just a little bit of Reader Mail. Contact us at pokerfromtherail@fulltiltpoker.com with any questions, comments, or recipes for making whoopee (or, as the kids call it, “bumping uglies”). Let the sexual healing begin:

The Pros Speak: Taylor Caby
Posted by The Captain | Filed under The Pros Speak
Taylor Caby is truly a talented guy, and this extends well beyond his personal successes online. As one of the founding members of CardRunners, he’s already established himself as one of the top players in the game. What’s more, he’s a really nice, laid-back guy.
In spite of an obviously busy schedule, Taylor took a few minutes to chat with us about poker, CardRunners, and coming onboard with Full Tilt Poker. Here’s what he had to say:

The Week at FTP: Jen Harman Rules!
Posted by Big Donkey | Filed under The Week at FTP
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I’m writing this week’s post while drunk on Guinness and Jameson’s. Usually, it’s Budweiser and Jack Daniels but hey, it’s a holiday. Let’s celebrate.
