Adanthar and I take a cab over to the Rio at 1:30PM and arrive with more than enough time to hang around chatting before our 2PM restart.

Yet again, my table is full of unknown players and my 20 BB stack turns out to be one of the largest on the table. When the action gets started, the short stacks are flying in almost every hand, and we’re eliminating players at a very fast rate. I shove A-J over a late-position raise to pick up some chips, and my stack climbs into the mid 30s.

After some of the shortest stacks bust out, the table slows down a little bit. About half an hour into the level I get involved in my first interesting hand:

My stack: ~35,000, HJ: ~50,000, blinds 800/1,600 with 200 ante. I hold T-T in the SB. HJ is a young player, but clearly not an online one.

Pre-flop: Folds around to the HJ, HJ raises to 4,000, folds to me in the SB. As is my standard in live poker in these spots, I think re-raising a nominal amount for a go-and-go is better than just shoving, so I re-raise to 13,000. The BB folds and the HJ thinks it over for a little bit, then announces all-in. I call instantly and the HJ blurts “SHIT!” I table my T-T and a wave of relief flashes over his face as he turns over his J-J. God I hate live players’ ranges.

Flop: 9-6-3

Turn: A

River: J

With that I’m eliminated in 198th place for just under $3,000. Thrilling. The most annoying part is that I’ve got to find a way to kill two and a half hours before the $1,500 Mixed Hold ‘em tournament starts.

I start my time wasting by going to bug blogger Dr. Pauly for a little while. We catch up on the series and, as always, exchange any amusing anecdotes or gossip we hear (no I’m not holding out, it all ends up in here.) After that, I remember I have a pair of pants that have been altered waiting for me at the Zegna store over at Caesar’s Palace.

I make a run over to the store then get a cab straight back to the Rio. As I’m walking down the hall I run into online players Mastr (that’s right, I’m name dropping the WSOP champs I know) and MrTimCaum who’ve also just busted Day 2 of the $1,500. We grab some food and a drink to kill the time, then head down to the registration cage.

With the tournament about to start, I find my way back to Dr. Pauly in the media box and ask him to watch over my pants. I tell him if he loves his family, he won’t let anything happen to them. After that, I find my seat in the $1,500 Mixed Limit and No-Limit Hold ‘em tournament, with a half hour of each.

What ensues is being totally card dead in No Limit and finding a number of hands in Limit, which is unfortunate since I can barely play Limit Hold ‘em anymore. Let me make one thing very clear; Limit Hold ‘em is the devil if the devil decided to infect your soul with boredom and general lameness.

Instead of writing up all the various Limit hands I play, I think it’d be more interesting to write up a list of poker-related activities that I would rather do than play (and write about) Limit poker:

10. Play Durrr heads up for rolls.

9. Ask Phil Hellmuth to regale me, in maximum detail, the tale of how he won each of his 11 bracelets, and what that means to him.

8. Try and out drink Scotty Nguyen at 1PM.

7. Go pick up chicks with Devilfish as my wingman.

6. Bet $1,000 that Men the Master can name all his daughters.

5. Stake Eskimo Clark.

4. Take a sponsorship deal from UltimateBet.

3. Have Humberto Brenes sing a ballad in Spanish to me.

2. Tell Jeff Lisandro “I don’t trust you sir.”

1. Sit out the WSOP Main Event.

I bust the $1,500 Mixed during the Limit round when I get about 60% of my stack in pre with Ad-Td on the button vs. the BB who three bet me. The flop comes K high, he bets, I raise close to the rest of my stack, he puts the remainder in and tables K-Q, which holds.

I don’t get home until almost midnight, meaning I’ve managed to waste maximum time with more or less zero result at the Rio today. Damn I miss online poker and its sane hours.
