Before yesterday started I was wondering aloud what it was going to be like railing and covering a 1,000 player shootout spread across the Amazon and Brasilia rooms. It was sure to be an odd day since the players were only required to play one table before moving on to the next day if they won. Three Sit n Go’s victories sat between a player and a bracelet. No table breaks or yells of “seat open!”.
It was more bizarre than I expected, just four levels into the tournament and we had some tables which were already heads up and some still sitting 9-handed. Some players were sitting down to dinner having already made the money while others were still battling it out. I wandered through the blue section of the Amazon Room in the afternoon to find a ghost town. Tables which were packed at the start of the day were mostly empty or finished altogether. Witness for yourself below.
When play was done for the day, 100 players were still alive for a chance to win another table. If they accomplish that feat they will find themselves sitting at the feature table shooting for a WSOP bracelet.
