Poker From The Rail

“Watching paint dry” is an over used phrase, but if ever appropriate it was yesterday. The $10,000 Seven Card Stud/8 World Championship kicked off with 164 of the biggest grinders in the world. It was a rock garden. Monstrous starting stacks, slow structure, and a limit split pot game. Players would not be leaving the event very quickly. Only 54 players were eliminated by the end of play.
Those 110 players return today and attempt to make their final 8. The field contains some of the best in the world. Tuan Le, Lyle Berman, Tom “Donkey Puncher” Schneider, Chip Jett and Johnny “World” Hennigan are just a few I caught with a quick look at the list.
Adding to the fun today is another limit game, this time it’s the $2,000 Limit Hold’em Event #38. The field will be significantly smaller than the usual noon starting tournament and the play will be slightly less stellar than the $10,000 Limit Hold’em World Championship. This is the only new tournament of the day.
Sometime this evening we will crown a new champion in the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event. Full Tilt / Cardrunner pro Isaac Baron is in the remaining 11 player field but starting with a short stack. Also looking for the big prize today will be “Johnny Bax” and Sorel Mizzi leads the field.
Day 2 of the latest $2,000 No Limit Hold’em festival restarts just 42 spots away from the money. The bubble will burst and the tournament will begin it’s slow crawl towards the final table. My pick to win the tournament is Shaun Deeb. Play resumes at 2pm PT.
Chip counts for the restarts after the jump. Look for the Week in Pictures later this afternoon.
