Phil Ivey running deep in the 2009 WSOP Main Event

Big happenings today in the Amazon Room.  All the Main Event players are combined for the first time, big stacks are looking to put their stamp on the series, shortstacks are trying to get chips anyway possible, everyone is trying to make it through the 5 levels of play.  2,044 players remain at the start of the day and are spread between the Amazon and Brasilia Rooms.  By the end of the day, the Brasilia Room will have served it’s purpose for the 2009 World Series of Poker and all tables will be cleared.

From this point on when a table is broken, it stays broke.  The final field will be played down and we’ll start to see them condense into a smaller group with bigger stacks.  The rail will shrink but become more centralized around the major players or sweating family members/friends still alive.  The ESPN cameras are a beacon for action, if we see them rushing to a table then something’s going down.

Many of your favorite members of Team Full Tilt are still crushing tables but the big name near the top of the leaderboard is Phil Ivey.  He’s sitting on 346,200 chips and prepared himself for a deep run this year, I don’t know anyone that would count him out if he decides he wants to dominate.  Also sitting pretty high on the board are Greg “FBT” Mueller, Andy Black and Paul Wasicka.  Online qualifier Troy Weber (look for profile to come) began the day 3rd in chips with 453,200.  Friend of the blog Brian Lemke, actor Lou Diamond Phillips and 2009 WSOP destroyer Jeff Lisandro have more than enough chips to make things happen.

After a well deserved day off on Wednesday, we will begin to see a pattern emerge to tell us the big stories of the 2009 World Series of Poker.
