The room continues to shrink, the day starts with 7 tables

12:30pm

Day 7 starts with just 1% of the starting field and will play down to three tables.  The makeup of the November Nine final table which be much clearer when we stagger from the Amazon Room sometime between now and sunrise tomorrow.  Will the chip leader survive the day?  Will we have a table with some of the biggest names or will they struggle against the unpredictable amateurs? Will Leo Margets become the first woman to make the Main Event final table since Barbara Enright?

There are three members of Team Full Tilt in the small field as Jack Effel issues the daily command.  Phil Ivey will look to continue his heater as he begins the day third in chips with 6,345,000.  He’s in a dangerous position for the field to be comfortable, he even seems chipper today. Next on the list is Fabrice Soulier with 3,025,000 and James Akenhead with 1,655,000.  That leaves us represented by the U.S, France and the U.K.  There are several other players sporting the red and white patches and I will work on getting their information.

With the first elimination of the day occurring before the seats were even warmed up, it was Prahlad Friedman’s short day, we are now down to 7 full tables and a new pay jump. 55th through 63rd will be the first players to be paid six digits, $108,047.

Play was underway but the clock has been stopped to break a table.  It’s all very quiet so far, a few small claps here and there but no fireworks.  You can find the starting chip counts after the jump.  I’ll be here all day bringing you near live updates.

2009 wsop joesebok 2009 World Series of Poker Day 48 Main Event Day 7 Live Blog1:30pm:

My dark thoughts of working in the Amazon Room until dawn my have been a little dramatic.  It might still be a very long day/night/morning but the first hour brought a boatload of bustouts.  We lost nearly an entire table in 60 minutes but one those did not make the media table happy.  Friend of many, Joe Sebok was eliminated in 56th spot after running his shortstack A9 into a big stack AQ.  55 players remain at the bottom of the hour leaving us just two knockouts away from going down to six tables and up another payout jump.

Phil Ivey has been stack up and up, pushing over the 7.1Million mark with what PokerNews.com described as a “hero call”.  Ace high was good enough for a monster pot sure to be seen on the ESPN rebroadcast.  Fabrice Soulier and James Akenhead are sitting the same, but newly patched up Michael Hansen enjoyed his Day 7 for approximately 20 minutes. Tom “Donkey Bomber” Schneider has recently doubled up to the joy of his wife Judy who has a voice that can be heard back in Texas.

2:30pm:

The players are now heading off on their first break of the day and we are down to 6 full tables.  The players still seem to be feeling out each other and protecting their stacks.  Four of the shortest stacks to start the day have been eliminated.  Chip leader to start Darvin Moon (~10,000,000) has been moved down to second as Billy Kopp surged past him with over 14,000,000 in chips.

Phil Ivey is still moving along and continues to actively increase his stack and stay in position for a Championship run while Fabrice Soulier has taken some hits and dropped down to just north of 1,300,000.  Recently patched up newcombers Charlie Elias and Hieu Luu will come back from break with over 3,000,000.  Luu has spent most of that level trading blows with Tom “Donkey Bomber” Schneider.  Yesterday he was seen sporting a “I’m a Lucky Donk” t-shirt.

When the broke down to 6 tables, the payout levels once again jumped.  Places 46th to 54th will receive $138,568.

Eliminations during that level:

55 – Craig Boyd – $108,047
56 – Joe Sebok – $108,047
57 – John Martin – $108,047
58 – Scott Bohlman – $108,047
59 – Miika Puumalainen – $108,047
60 – Benjamin Jensen – $108,047
61 – Mark Ader – $108,047
62 – Michael Jansen – $108,047
63 – George Saca – $108,047
64 – Prahlad Friedman – $90,344

That hour saw Billy Kopp pull out to an even further lead.  Kopp is in line to make his second final table of the 200 World Series of Poker after finishing 8th in the $5,000 No Limit Hold’em Event #15.  Kopp, who plays under the user name DurangoDan35 on Full Tilt Poker, has well over $1,000,000 in career tournament earnings online including a Sunday Brawl and $200,000 Guarantee ($150 rebuy) tournaments over the last few months.  He is sitting in the Main Event with over 16,000,000 and no one else is over 10,000,000 at this point.

We lost Team Full Tilt member Fabrice Soulier this hour leaving our pro lineup with Phil Ivey and James Akenhead.  Soulier was eliminated in a race situation with tens versus the soooted Big Slick of Tommy Vedes how ended with the nut heart flush.  Ivey sits near 8million while Akenhead is just south of 4million.

Also dropping at the start of this hour were 2007 World Series of Poker Player of the Year Tom “Donkey Bomber” Schneider and FTP patched up Aussie Charlie Elias.  We’re moving closer to breaking into 5 tables, three outer and two features.

Eliminations this hour:

49 – Fabrice Soulier – $138,568
50 – Bradley Craig – $138,568
51 – Thai Tran – $138,568
52 – Tom “Donkey Bomber” Schneider – $138,568
53 – Charlie Elias – $138,568
54 – Steve Sanders – $138,568

5:00pm:

The players are taking their second break of the day and things are looking rosy for an earlier than expected evening. The elimination are occurring much quicker than anticipated and we could be down to 27 at a reasonable hour.

During that hour Phil Ivey momentarily was in the chip lead but gave a little back when 66 outflopped his 99. Ivey was moved this hour to the immediately left of chip leader Billy Kopp. This has the potential to be a huge swing table unless they chose to stay out of each others way.

Before the break we lost our final member of the 2008 November Nine when Dennis Phillips lost all his chips in a AK v AK hand where his opponent pulled the four flush. Earlier in the day Phillips used the ol’ four flush to crush another opponents aces with queens. Turn about and all that jazz.

We lost 5 players in the last hour of that level, including FTP patched Hieu Luu,  and the pace may pick up. Just 17 knockouts from calling it a day.

44 – Manuel Labanderia – $178,857
45 – Dennis Phillips – $178,857
46 – Hung Pham – $138,568
47 – Adam Bilzerian – $138,568
48 – Hieu Luu – $138,568

You’d think players would be willing to catch the “Phil Ivey virus”

6:15pm:

I think the players must have heard my secret thoughts about getting out of the room extra early.  They dropped like flies to begin this level. Just one hour into the third level of the day and we lost another 8 players in that time. Less than two tables away from knowing who’s coming back tomorrow looking to make the November Nine.

Phil Ivey continues to put pressure on the rest of the field and the only player remaining with more than his 11million chips would be Billy Kopp’s 15million. James Akenhead is sporting just under 5million and looking to make Day 8.

The look around the Amazon Room continues to look bizarre. The only seats left outside the feature table are those in the old Green section making for one big crowd stuffed into just one quarter of the room. Lot’s of cheering, yelling, and clapping. Even if I’m not around the tables it’s easy enough to know when something big is happening.

I will have a better idea on the length of the day in one hour when the players are scheduled to go on their 90 minutes dinner break. There are discusses going around the media about whether they will cancel that and play straight through with just a regular 20 minutes break.

Here are the 8 players eliminated during the hour. Bustouts are now receiving over a quarter of a million dollars.

36 – Christopher Bach – $253,941
37 – Martin Lapostolle – $178,857
38 – Gabriel Vezina – $178,857
39 – Eugene Katchalov – $178,857
40 – Scott Cook – $178,857
41 – Adam York – $178,857
42 – Jeff Duvall – $178,857
43 – Montagna Corrado – $178,857

7:15pm:

There was good news and bad news at the end of this level.  Good news is that the knockouts continued at an accelerated pace, we’re just 2 players from hitting the magic number of 27.  The bad news is they are still going off on a 90 minute dinner break.

Phil Ivey collected another 2,000,000 chips over the last hour to finish right around 13,000,000.  James Akenhead is right around 5,000,000.  Doing the math, the average chip stack works out to somewhere between 6.7 and 7million.  Tough to tell completely accurate with all the chip color ups.  Of the 29 remaining, only 12 players are sitting at or above the average.  Every player is over 1million chips with George Caragiorgas holding down the last position with 1,570,000.

Six more players dropped out in the last hour:

30 – Marc McLaughlin – $253,941
31 – Ryan Fair – $253,941
32 – Scott Sitron – $253,941
33 – Jason Brice – $253,941
34 – Blair Rodman – $253,941
35 – Grayson Ramage – $253,941

10:30pm:

I took a friendly wager with a friend that it would only take one hour after the 8:30pm dinner break to bustout the final two players of the evening. I came really close to collecting when Luis Nargentino went out quickly and we had several all-in calls but it wasn’t too happen. It took nearly an hour later than that but we are finally done the evening.

That pace does not bode well for us tomorrow.

Phil Ivey will end the day very close the chip lead once the official numbers are done. He spent the entire day steadily building up his stack without taking too many risks. He caught a few lucky breaks and will be a favorite to endure the 3 month wait between now and the November final table. Also atop the leaderboard are Billy Kopp, Darvin Mood, Tommy Vedes, and Jeff Shulman.

We will return tomorrow at noon and play until the November Nine has been set. Various members of the media believe tomorrow will be the day we walk from the Amazon Room after sunrise.

The last two eliminated on Day7:

28 – Joe Ward – $253,941
29 – Luis Nargentino – $253,941

Hi. Beside the full tilt team players, there are any FTP qualifiers, or any other player sponsored by FTP in any way? Thanks a lot.
