I had high hopes for a Full Tilt bracelet as we entered Day 7 with both Amanda Baker and Lee Watkinson still standing in the final 50 of the $1k “Stimulus Special”. ‘Mandy B’ was sitting high on that list and it didn’t look like there would be too many obstacles to her making a final table with a chance for the jewelry. Unfortunately my current streak for being the biggest cooler in the room kicked in and she ran into some bad luck. She was knocked out just after Watkinson.
That event was the craziest of the series so far to follow “From the Rail” as the final 27 players were moved from the Brasilia to the Amazon Room. There had already been issues the friends/family of some of those final players and now they were in the big room with little oversight. There were already several other tournaments in full bloom, the railbirds were able to crowd around the tables and swarm the players with every all-in and call. There were shouts of outrage and encouragement, three tables down to 18 players only concentrated the crowd inside the rail. The picture below will give you just a small taste of that insanity, in reality a picture just couldn’t do it justice.
In the end, the Tournament Directors were forced to make a decision to turn the 3 day event into a 4 day by playing the final table on Wednesday. There was some commotion but things were finally ironed out.
The most enjoyable part of railing the games today was the kickoff of the $2,500 No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball event. Similar to the draw of the big Stud tournaments, this field was packed full of the best players and the opportunity to sit in on some crazy conversations. The best table to witness was with Mike Matusow, Chris Ferguson, Roy Winston and Layne Flack. There was never a lull in story telling and the chips never stopped flying.
I shudder to think about what we are going to witness on Day 8. The day will be stacked from start to finish.
