Poker From The Rail

Truth be told, I’ve been waiting to use that line from O.A.R. since the start of the series. Today is that day.
Here’s how the day is going to go and there is no sugar coating. Crazy. With the change in format of the $1k “Stimulus Special” to play the final table today, we are looking at 7 tournaments going on at different parts of the Rio. Surely plenty of chances to rail the players but where do I start? Just a quick taste of what we are in for throughout the day. Three WSOP bracelets will be awarded in the $1,000 “Stimulus Special”, the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha and the $10,000 Stud World Championship. Day 2 continues for the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em and $2,500 No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball tournaments. We will see the start of the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em 6-max and $2,500 Pot Limit Hold’em/Omaha events.
We will be going non-stop from the moment we walk into the Amazon Room and won’t leave until the wee hours of the morning. That also means there will be plenty of opportunity to see history in the making. Just looking down the list of those remaining in the No Limit 2-7 Draw game will be enough to pack the rails. The top of the board contains names like Layne Flack, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Erick Lindgren, Mike Matusow and David Grey.
The $1,000 final table nine will be rewarded for their extra day but playing out their bracelet in front of the ESPN360.com cameras this afternoon. Former WSOP bracelet winner Dan Heimiller leads the field but I will have a hard time being impartial as the table also includes a guy from my neck of the woods. Jim Matz is a PA resident and often seen rooming the halls of the Borgata.
The second bracelet awarded today will be in the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha event, one of the few tournaments to stay on schedule. Jason Mercier was showing off a monster stack throughout this tournament, a truly massive feat of engineering, but goes into the final table mid-stack. Also making a run is online professional Steven “UFMan2″ Burkholder.
The most prestigious bracelet of the day will be given to the winner of the $10,000 Stud World Championship. With names like Jeff Lisandro, Tim Phan, Greg “FBT” Mueller, Daniel Negreanu and Max Pescatori remaining the field chips will be hard come by and this could be the tournament that causes us to stay the latest. Well worth the sleep deprivation.
Chip counts for todays events after the jump.
