Phil Ivey will be playing in his first final table of 2009 World Series of Poker

With all apologies if I jinx it again, Phil Ivey is set to play in his first final table of the 2009 World Series of Poker when he sits down with 6 other players in the $2,500 No Limit 2-7 Draw tournament later today. Late in Day 8 there was a great chance we would see a final table packed with FTP logos and locking up a second bracelet for the team but fortunes changed. Cashing but coming short of the final table were big names like Layne Flack, David Grey, Vanessa Rousso and Erick Lindgren. This table will be my primary railing opportunity because of Ivey’s bracelet chance and it’s the craziest game I’ve ever witnessed.

They’ll also play down to a winner in the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em tournament which followed the pattern of the $1,000 event by not making it’s final table before the 3am cutoff. 33 players remain and I’ll be keeping an eye on FTP player Jeremy “PrahladF” Joseph as he tries for his first final table of the year.

Team Full Tilt will be represented by Rafe Furst and Jeremiah Smith as the No Limit Hold’em 6-max enters Day 2 with a field that made the money on Day 1. Just 105 players remain of the starting 1,459 and this looks to be one of the few tournaments so far to stay on schedule. They’ll play down the final nine and come back tomorrow to award the bracelet and the $428,000 first place cash.

Two new events kick off again today, another $2,000 No Limit Hold’em lemur wrangling tournament and the $10,000 World Championship Mixed Event.  It’ll be another great day to loiter between the tables of the Brasilia room and just pick up the stories.  Players who don’t live and die with the turn of a card, understanding the long term nature of the game.

Six more tournaments today, two bracelets, five more miles accumulated on my badly hurting knees, and bikini sponsor girls running amok.  I truly make the great sacrifice for my loyal readers.

Chip counts for the restarting events after the jump.
