I usually wait until the wee hours of the morning to document the previous days activities on the rail. The chip counts and stats aren’t released until the sun is coming up so I like to see what’s happening. No reason to really do that today, there’s only one story.
Phil Ivey’s name was bouncing all over the Amazon and Brasalia rooms throughout the day. All the online players think they are pretty bad when they are playing in multiple tournaments but Ivey one upped them all today. He was sitting with a huge chipstack at the final table of the $2,500 Omaha/Stud High Low tournament and running on the break to play his stack in the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha/8 event. Other players have done this before, but Ivey was crushing both at the same time.
At one point he was the chip leader at the final table and sitting pretty high in the PLO8 nearing the bubble. He won’t be crying about getting blinded out in that game as he battled through the night and by midnight had collected his 2nd World Series of Poker bracelet for 2009 and his 7th career victory.
The final table was loaded with Jon “Pearljammer” Turner, Carlos Mortensen, Steve Wong and Dutch Boyd. The blinds had climbed so high in this limit game that the chip leader was rotating around the table until Ivey eventually found himself with Ming Lee. There was a brief battle where they were trading the chip lead but Ivey eventually put his foot down and took the victory.
This is Ivey’s second bracelet of the year, following up his win in the No Limit Deuce to Seven tournament and continues to build his WSOP legend. This outcome adds to a streak of incredible performance by many players. Brock Parker collected his second bracelet earlier in the week both in the 6-max format. Ville Wahlbeck has only played in 4 WSOP events and has booked a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finish.
We’ll be back in the Amazon Room bright and early looking to witness WSOP Commisioner Jeffrey Pollack award Phil Ivey his 7th bracelet.
For all the gamblers out there, Phil Ivey confirmed in his postgame interview that this bracelet locks up all his WSOP victory prop bets. He’s freerolling now in his effort to catch the bracelet leaders.
