I have the ridiculous love affair with numbers, not that I’m a brilliant mathematician who can snap call with answers to the toughest equations, it’s just a weird obsession with crunching them to see what kind of data falls out on the other end. Yesterday seemed like a weird day on the final tables throughout the day where larger than normal numbers of players were settling for a chop as far sooner than normal. Luckily our friend Jess Welman at Bluff saw the same thing so I’m not losing my mind.
It seemed a far lower number of events during FTOPS XVII were settled with some sort of chop before the end and then this Sunday all the deal makers were out in force. Thanks to a goofy research project on the site I pulled numbers from every guaranteed tournament from midnight to midnight for Big Money Sunday and strange things were afoot. Three of the four major tournaments I track here alone made 3/4 person deals at the end with players all basically getting the same money and the minimum set aside to play it out.
The Bolsheviks would be happy.
There was some decent added money to the prizepools as the biggest and smallest games on the slate missed their guarantee mark. The $200,000 Double Deuce continues to draw big fields for the small buyin tournament but once again players found themselves with over $16,000 in free Tilt money in the mix. The $750,000 was quite a few players short of the mark, FTP kicked in an extra $65,800 for those able to buyin to the tournament. Nearly 100,000 reasons to hit the satellites this weekend to get into the tournaments on the cheap. Over $5,000,000 in guaranteed prizepool each and every Sunday.
There were no big standouts in the Big Money Sunday majors this weekend. Tony “D1rtyR1v3r” Nardi had a few top finishes and Chris “Moormanl” Moorman made the $200,000 Guarantee final table (as well as decent results on another site who shall not be named). That final table also featured Brandon Adams and Brent “Bhanks1″ Hanks, Hanks threw in a decent $750k result as well. Jon “Pearljammer” Turner finished 15th in the Sunday Mulligan for the best result in a major for the red letter pros.
Just over two weeks until the kickoff of MiniFTOPS XVII with the satellites now up and running. $6,000,000 in prize money for just a fraction of the regular FTOPS buyins. You can find the MiniFTOPS schedule by clicking the link as well as the MiniFTOPS XVII Satellite Challenge.

Poker Says:
August 24th, 2010 at 12:44 amIt’s cool that you crunched the chop numbers but I would be interested in the psychology behind the chop. I always say that I will not chop but when it comes down to it I bet I have chopped about 50% of the time when I have been in the situation. I’ve only instigated a chop once and I swear I always go into these donkuments when 1000% chance of not chopping but when it comes down to it…..you know the story.
