big money sundays landing Big Money Sunday February 1st

It was an interesting night on the tables as Big Money Sunday turned into Super Sunday on the day American Football crowned it’s champion. As expected, the fields were smaller as a large chunk of players took the night off to watch the game with friends and adult beverages.

The big game of the evening was the Super Sunday $500k and pulled a nice crowd away from the TV. Chris “herdrolf86″ Tipper followed up his $100k Double Deuce final table last week with by winning the Super Sunday $500k. Mark “dipthrong” Herm went deep in the 2009 Borgata Winter Poker Open Main event and followed up by finishing second in this week’s Sunday Brawl. We had a bit of an overlay in the Sunday Mulligan and some interesting play across all the major events.

Details and numbers after the jump.

Even with the Super Bowl kicking off in the middle of the major events, there was still a great turnout with all the added distractions. The 4 tournaments drew over 14,000 players and exceeded $1,300,000 in prize money.

- I had an added interest in watching the action during the Sunday Brawl as the players began to dwindle. Mark “dipthrong” Herm continued to add to his stack as the tables broke and chance for a good story began to unfold. I had an opportunity during the 2009 Borgata Winter Poker Open to spend some time speaking with “dipthrong” about his game. Interesting young player who finished deep in their Main Event and has completed the unheard of feat of winning two major Sunday tournaments on the same day. After a long battle he finished in the second spot this evening. Also at the final table was Richard “thekellster89″ Kellet ($750K Final table in July) and Michael “benvo123″ Benvenuti (final table of FTOPS IX Event #4). “MrRenniW” was making his second Sunday Brawl final table in two weeks, finishing second on January 18th.

- Chris “herdgolf86″ Tipper also spent some time last week running around the Borgata Tournament room on the final weekend. Last Sunday he made a great run to final table the 10,000 player $100K Double Deuce and followed up with a win in this week’s Super Sunday $500k. Tipper has a previous final table appearance in the $750k during the summer of 2008. “Antonio78″ finished second in FTOPS IX Event #9 for $68,000. Brian Stevens made last night’s final table almost one year to the day of taking down the Sunday Mulligan in February 2008.

- Sunday Mulligan winner “fishhookn1″ made his biggest score on FTP since opening an account although he does have some big cashes in other major events. “mdv85″ was the final table bubble during the $1,000 buyin FTOPS IX Event #9. “Fishbones11″ has a previous Sunday Mulligan final table as well as several other deep finishes. Jason “JaspudUF” Lee had a 5th place finish in FTOPS VII Event #1 banking $42,000. The anonymous “Tomgus456″ came to this final table with a Sunday Brawl win under his belt just back in late November.
