Big Money Sunday came and went boosting the bankroll of some players earning their first big score. The headline event, $750k Guarantee, had the top two places paid out to players in their biggest buyin tournament. We had several former FTOPS winners come close to hitting a major final table but fall short. FTP red letter pro Steve Wong came closest to a big score for the big names by finishing 14th in the $750k. The Sunday Mulligan final table featured stpauli111 who has several 5 digit scores this year, Michael “mman_status” Meredith, and kice32 who took down a $100,000 prize in FTOPS IV Event #3.
Big Money Sunday numbers after the jump.
Just under 16,000 players created a prizepool of over $1.5 million in the 4 events. Since the boost in max players for the $100k Double Deuce, there have been over 9,000 players poneying up $22 for a chance at a big score on the cheap. The big ticket tournaments continued to draw big crowds and top names. Details below as well as the final table chips counts and results.
- The Sunday Brawl was 3 grand shy of a $400,000 prizepool and $82k for first place. The first big tournament of the day drew 1,985 players. The final table featured moronicus who finished second in the Sunday Brawl on 10/26 and PLUSizeHoney who final tabled the same event on 12/21. Roland Specht was the highest placing FTP pro in 88th.
- The $100k Double Deuce continues to be a monster event. 9,002 players ran up a $180,000+ prizepool and the same trend of bizarre play. I’m not sure if it was officially announced or anyone noticed, but the structure is pretty insane for a small buyin tournament. 10 minute levels for the first two hours, 12 minute level for the next 15 round of blinds, then 15 minute levels the rest of the way. Chip stacks start at 3220 and plenty of play. Lee Watkinson was the highest finishing pro in the donkfest in 398.
- The $750,000 came up just $3,600 of the guarantee number so there was a slight overlay. The final table featured several players in their biggest buyin tournament that I could find in my research. Winner “45 ACP Fanatic” who’s biggest tournament before this was the occasional $75 nightly guarantee tournament or KO event. “timhorr” was the second place finisher who’s biggest score prior to this event was winning a $22 two table SnG. Both players add a combined $200,000 to their bankrolls. “highlandfox” (previous $1k Monday final table) and “spady 007″ (previous Sunday Brawl final table) were the biggest names in the final nine.
- The Sunday Mulligan is always interesting to watch because the timing tends to have it hit the final table at the same time as the $100 Double Deuce. That means I’m watching some of the top players in the $200 Mulligan at the same time as the push-happy Double Deuce. FTOPS X Event #12 winner “losebigpots” came close to the final table but came up just short. Dag Mikkelson ran the deepest amongst the FTP pros.
