news clip art Friday News for September 3rdThis week’s list is not necessarily a “Top 5″ list as I will barely mention the durrrr Challenge 2 which everyone seems to be following (for good reason) but more a little Hall of Fame action followed by a few videos. The entire list could be composed solely of poker related videos but decided the 2010 Hall of Fame nominees and Jen Harman news worthy of a mention.

Dwan is down nearly $700,000 to Dan “jungleman12″ Cates, most of the top players in the world have taken up their place in Europe, and Blair Hinkle won the WSOP Circuit Event in some place called “Council Bluffs” (appropriate name). Just a few of the things that did not make the list this week.

1. The 2010 Poker Hall of Fame nominees were released and include 4 members of Team Full Tilt.

2. Jennifer Harman will be inducted to the Women in Poker Hall of Fame along with Kathy Liebert and Billie Brown.

3. Tom “durrrr” Dwan joins This Week in Poker to discuss the durrrr Challenge 2 and his WSOP bracelet prop bets.

4. ABC’s Nightline aired a story about online poker that wasn’t 6 minutes of taking pot shots.

5. Phil Ivey spends 3 solid minutes in front of the camera for a proper interview.

1. The World Series of Poker released the nominees for the 2010 Poker Hall Fame voting with several members of Team Full Tilt making the final cut. Chris Ferguson, Phil Ivey, Erik Seidel, and Jenn Harman were among the ten players who emerged from the public voting portion of the voting process and will now be sent to the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council (made up of 16 living Hall of Fame members and a 17-person media panel) for final selection. Players who selected will be inducted during the November Nine final table weekend. Here are the ten players eligible for the 2010 Poker Hall of Fame class.

- Chris Ferguson
- Barry Greenstein
- Jennifer Harman
- Dan Harrington
- Phil Ivey
- Linda Johnson
- Tom McEvoy
- Daniel Negreanu
- Scotty Nguyen
- Erik Seidel

2. The Poker Hall of Fame isn’t the only “hall” on Jen Harman’s mind this week. Harman was selected along with Kathy Liebert and Billie Brown for induction into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas this evening (Friday, September 3rd).

Harman’s resume includes 2 WSOP bracelets, 24 WSOP cashes, over $2,500,000 in career tournament earnings, and consistently taking on the biggest cash games in the world including the legendary battle versus Andy Beal. Kathy Liebert has banked over $5,000,000 tournament money during her career which also includes a WSOP bracelet and 6 World Poker Tour final tables. Billie Brown was an innovator when it came to creating unique poker tournaments which attracted players from around the world including the creation of the first “guaranteed prize pool” in a major tournament.

3. Poker videos, podcasts, and online shows are always popping up around the internet. Some have their moments and some just aren’t worth the time. The gang over at Wicked Chops Poker seem to have hit one out of the park when they started “This Week in Poker” over the summer. Quality interviews on a weekly basis as well as news with Bluff Magazine’s Jess Welman.

This week they grabbed an interview with Tom “durrrr” Dwan and spent time talking about durrrr Challenge 2, his WSOP bracelet bets and final table appearance. They also had Friend of Tilt Jason Calacanis in the studio which can be found here. You can jump ahead to Dwan’s interview here at the 53 minute mark.

4. ABC’s Nightline aired a story this about online poker and some of the young guns firing away. It was well done and shows our game in a good light, not the standard hatchet job of the main stream media. Full Tilt Poker gets some nice air time while the segment talks about online player Blain Brount.

5. The eyes of the poker have turned towards London with several major events running throughout September ending with the World Series of Poker Europe during the last week. The first event of the month is WPT London which drew an all-star field including Phil Ivey.

Anyone who has spent a decent amount of time covering poker tournaments will know just how hard it is to get the quiet Ivey on camera for an interview. “Friend of the blog” Tatjana Pasalic managed to do just that and you can watch a solid 3 minutes with Ivey below.
