thanksgiving2 Giving Thanks

While yesterday was a regular Thursday in the rest of the world, we celebrated our version of Thanksgivings Day here in the U.S. of A.  This generally involves feasting on roast Turkey and forced communion with a long lost drunken uncle.  We do have our version of football as a distraction but that didn’t prove to be much of a factor yesterday.

I managed to overindulge in the glorious bird then pies of apple and pumpkin.   I battled the food coma by searching the tables for schooling fish willing to donate their bankroll in the name of good tidings.  This kept me up until 5am and got me thinking of those things in poker for which I am most thankful.  Just a few of them after the jump.

I’m thankful for online poker.  If it weren’t for sites like Full Tilt Poker, I’d be forced to hit up the local brick and mortar to get my fix.  I’d have to endure the unique perfume of the gentlemen at the end of a 48 hour session, the grumpy dealer taking out her domestic frustrations by over-raking pots, watered down drinks and the overall joy that is Atlantic City.  Now I have the option of playing in my boxers, button-mashing my way to bankroll glory and drinking from my personal supply of hooch.  Thank you Full Tilt Poker.

I’m thankful for everyone who plays AJ, KQ, and KJ preflop like they are the mortal nuts.  Recently I’ve been getting a lot of action early in tournaments by players willing to push these hands into my aces or kings.  I can’t win a race to save my life, but to my surprise I’ve been able to survive these situtations.  Thank you sweet fishies for all the extra chips.

I’m thankful for the late night weekend players who experiment.  There is nothing sweeter for the bankroll. Some poor guy coming off a late night bender having a brilliant idea to try Omaha/8 for the first time.“How comes i doesn’t win cause i has three aces in the hole.” Thanks, you silly drunken lemurs, for herding yourselves into nice little packs for easy picking.

I should also be thanking Full Tilt for the new $100k Double Deuce on Sunday afternoons.  It’s debut last week proved to be a deep, soft tournament.  This tournament is going to sell out again and there are nearly 5,000 players signed up early Friday morning.  When it sells out, I still suggest getting on the waiting list because it will move throughout the weekend.  Give it a shot, you won’t be disappointed.

There are also the other Big Money Sunday games going off during the day so be sure to check out all the action.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.  Sling those chips with joy in your soul.
