amnon filippi1 Michele Lewis: Would you play your clone?

It’s tough to describe the atmosphere around the Amazon Room as the hours wind down each day. Your senses begin to warp a little as you witness the same actions repeated, hear the same bad beat stories, watch the same people coming and going. You’ll hear some of the more interesting stories as the clock slips toward the late evening/early morning hours and anything goes.

Our newest guest blogger Michele Lewis found herself in one of those conversations, it began innocently enough but turned into a makeshift poll about the future of human cloning and multiple tournament entries.

Amnon Filippi was feeling some stress last night during the 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball but it wasn’t because of his chip count. Filippi might have been a current chip leader but his Blackberry battery was low on juice. Unfortunately, most on media row have recovered from Crackberry addictions and have moved on to iPhones leaving Filippi out of luck for a re-charge. However, there’s a good chance Filippi will be able to purchase an additional charger as soon as he cashes in an event. Oh, wait a second… he has over 2.5 million in tournament winnings, therefore, he should have had an assistant on hand to fetch him a charger.

What if Filippi had a clone? Hmmm, this brings to mind a bigger question…if poker players begin to clone themselves, can their clones play the same event as themselves? I can’t say many people would want to play with more than one Fillipi or Phil Ivey at their table. In fact, Ivey and Filippi probably wouldn’t want to play against themselves either. We could take this to a whole new level if we were to mention annoying players who were annoying each other. Imagine a tournament table with eight Phil Hellmuths. I’m getting a headache just thinking about Hellmuth number one saying something like “Hey buddy, I’m the original bracelet winner here and you wouldn’t have your bracelet if it weren’t for me.” That being said, I asked Filippi if he would play against his own clone “I would because I know what I would do.” On the contrary, Steve Wong said “No, because you already know what you’re thinking.” Obviously, Wong was referring to his clone having a good read on himself. But… Joe Sebok was pumped and ready for action “Oh sure, I would kill him.”
