MiniFTOPSXIV MiniFTOPS XIV Midterm ReportWhile today is not necessary the “middle” of MiniFTOPS XIV, it was on Tuesday when I finally emerged from my self-imposed hibernation to check back into the fantastic world of online poker. Yesterday found us with 12 of the 25 events completed and 3 more to run throughout the day with something for everybody. Event #13 kicked off in the afternoon as a sold out 6-max shootout tournament. Events #14 and #15 ran consecutively with a little HORSE action and Turbo NLHE. It was a rough day for the Full Tilt pros as Eddy Sharf was the only one with a small cash in the turbo.

The first half was up and down for the rest of the red letter names. Christian Kruel started things off well by making the final table and finishing 4th in Event #1 ($14,872.79). After that only Sascha Biorac has been able to make another final table. Scott Fischman, Esther Rossi, and Roy Winston have cashed in 3 of the 15 tournaments but nothing big finishes to set the world on fire. 26 Full Tilt pros have cashed in the series so far which has attracted just south of 100,000 players and $3,000,000 total.

It has been a great series so far for us lower bankrolled players, big payouts for low buyins. There hasn’t been much ballyhoo from those busy writing about nosebleed tables but I’ve got our back. Here are the current numbers as we get ready for two more events today.

Number of events: 15
Players: 98,887
Guarantee Prizepool: $2,210,000
Actual Prizepool: $2,996,820
Largest Prizepool: $536,370 (Event #10 NLHE)
Smallest Prizepool: $36,450 (Event #3 Shootout)
Overlay: NO OVERLAY
Largest FTP Pro Payout: $14,872.79 (Christian Kruel)
Total FTP pro cash (#): 26
Total FTP pro cash ($): $27,927.13

You can find the final table results as well as another Julius_Goat report after the jump:

The Julius_Goat Report:

There are many insane thing that couples like to do together, like raising children, or dancing, or Pot Limit Omaha. The latter was proven in Saturday’s short-handed PLO event, for which 2649 runners came out. After the dust had cleared and the bubbled loomed, Chip Jett and Karina Jett were hanging right in there with around an average stack of approximately 38K in chips. Joining them was Jon Turner, who was short with 11K. The model of propriety, he busted 312th, six places before the bubble, leaving the happy couple alone to compete for cash and prizes. Well, cash. But with cash, you can buy your own damn prizes. Where was I?

Oh yeah, the bubble.

The levels were 600/1200 at bubble time, and Karina had gone ahead and doubled up, and then some. She had 95K to Chip’s 38K, and it was possible to dream of a husband/wife final table. Sadly, this not to be. Karina hit the rail in 77th, Chip finally fell in 24th place. He was in the top 1% of the field, but that’s not quite enough to see a final table, and Full Tilt would go without pro representation in the last legs.

Observers still had an interesting angle, though, as former FTOPS Event Winner Str8Forward, rocking his golden jersey and helmet, was the chipleader as the tournament got 10 handed. Str8Forward was sitting on well over 2.6 million and looked poised to go deep.

About forty minutes later, the final table was set at the 25K/50K level. (Chip amounts in millions from here.)

Str8Forward – 3.6
PavelPavel – 3.4
Call Tarzan – 4.1
BOMSKOK – 2.2
rickyv17 – 1.8
Bigfishhead219 – 0.4

As the prohibitive shortstack, Bigfishhead219 was desperate and got involved almost immediately. He raised 150K of his remaining 400K, and Call Tarzan put him all in. Bigfish made the obvious call and showed: QdThJsKh.

Call Tarzan had KcQh6hAc, and one simple 2s6d9h2c9d board put Bigfishhead out in 6th with a tidy $4,105 for his trouble. That kind of money can buy you an awfully big fish hat for your big fish head, if you’re so inclined. Call Tarzan may or may not have pounded his chest and given the scream of a triumphant ape-man. As this is the internet, we have no way of knowing.

Tarzan’s call would have stuck in his throat, though, as he doubled through rickyv17 shortly thereafter, shipping all those Bigfishhead chips across the table. The hand gave shortstack ricky 3.9 million chips and some breathing room, and left Call Tarzan with “only” 2.7 million.

After some standard stealing and positioning, BOMSKOK and PavalPavel played this key hand:

After some standard raising pre (which still managed to build a pot large enough to have its own gravity), the players saw this flop:

KdJc4c

The players got the remaider of their chips in the middle in fairly short order. Pavel even put his second “Pavel” in there.

Pavel was holding 8hAsThAc versus the JhQc5sKs of BOMSKOK. The flop had left Pavel behind and he didn’t catch up, so he was out in 5th place for $6,158. BOMSKOK grabbed a pot with 4.7 million chips and took the lead.

Not to be outdone, ricky started running over the newly four-handed table with blind-stealing bets and post flop aggression. A shorty when final table play began, he ran his lead up to 9 million, leaving the other three to divy up the other 50% of the chips between themselves equally. BOM, Tarzan, and the fairly quiet former FTOPS champ Str8Forward were all feeling short. In quick order, BOMSKOK and Call Tarzan got all in. Tarzan lost and BOM got the much-needed double. Crippled with just a few hundred thousand chips left to his name, Tarzan was sent back to the jungle by ricky, where it is presumed he threw a major party for Cheetah and all his other friends. Hey, $8,675 buys a lot of bananas. Ricky wasn’t done, though, busting St8ahead in another all-in showdown a few hands later, leaving only BOMSKOK in his way.

As heads-up play commenced, Ricky held more than a 2:1 chiplead, with 11.1 million to BOMSKOK’s 4.5 million. After some standard and unremarkable blinds-jousting, the two got all-in on a 952 rainbow flop Ricky’s held ducks for a set. BOM had top pair, top kicker and not much else, so after a couple of blanks, he was the bald-headed little girl with no lollypop. Oh, and sixteen thousand friggin’ dollars. So no crying for BOMSKOK, people.

Game over. Congratulations to the winner of $26,000 and change, as well as Mini FTOPS Event #6, rickyv17!
