“SNG Nick” Rainey attempting 15,000 SnGs in 31 days
I’m not sure how I missed this news last week but it seems we have another “challenge” running on Full Tilt Poker. Someone sent me an email last week and this time around we have Nick Rainey attempting to break the record for playing the most SnGs in one month. I’m not exactly sure what that record is, but Rainey will attempt to play 15,000 sit n go’s with a $10,000 profit over 31 days.
Update: I have been informed that the correct number is 16,000 SnGs. Sick.
He has been playing for nearly two weeks and starting to heat up. You can see the challenge details after the break.
Rainey has been posting daily updates on his blog, SNG Nick, a great way to keep up with his progress. He posted details of his attempt and I pulled some of his rules from directly from this post.
Username: Stinko_Mikko
Site: Full Tilt
What I have to do: 15,000 SNG’s in 31 days and $10,000 in Profits
Odds: 3-1 (your $3000 to win my $1000) I would like at least $150,000 against me. No maximum to how much you can bet.
When: March 13th 9am until April 13th 9am.
Rules and Info
- I have exactly 31 days (816 hours) to complete the bet from March 13th 9am until April 13th 9:00 am. I can stop if have played 15,000 SNG’s and have $10,000 or more in profits.
- I will have 3 web cams up at all times for anyone interested in watching, any technical difficulties will be handled immediately. One web cam will be of my basketball court and prop bets on shots will be encouraged at all times. Free throw line is visible below.
- I play at the CW office and the restroom facilities are located about 30 feet down the hall, I will be permitted to use the facilities as often as I like.
- Those who wager against me cannot sit at my tables unless it is your normal game. Judges will monitor this closely at all times.
- SNG’s must have 6 or more players to count and all SNG’s will be played on Full Tilt Poker. My screen name is Stinko_Mikko
- SNG’s must have buy in of $6 – $75
- Two Full Tilt pros will serve as escrows and I will post their names shortly.
After a slow start, and a post where he considered stopping, he has been hitting over a 1,000 SnGs over the last few days.
Rainey has established himself as one of the premier sit’n'go experts online since he found his sweet spot back in 2003 and joined team PokerVT in 2008 as their resident sit’n'go expert. You can follow his blog updates at his SNG Nick blog and check out his webcam at http://www.justin.tv/sng16k (when it’s working). You can also follow along from the rail by searching his username on Full Tilt Poker.
Good luck Nick.

March 30th, 2009 at 9:15 pmHi. I am Nick’s publicist. Let me know if you have any questions about the bet or want to ask Nick any questions and I would be happy to arrange an interview. And just to let you know, he has to complete 16,000 sngs not 15,000. Thanks.

April 3rd, 2009 at 4:03 amDamn I thought it was ridiculous how many games you were playing, I sit down at all hours of the day and always run into you and had never heard of you before.
P.S. If you want to break the $10K, you are going to have to move up stakes to the 15 buyin. I don’t think you stand a chance playing the 7.5 super turbos. As well your 100% push blind against blind will actually raise your ROI more at those stakes.
P.S For everyone playing him, push push push.. hard to make tough calls 16 tabling
Don’t want him to steal all my low stakes money. -

April 13th, 2009 at 8:36 amThe reason sometimes the other site is not open at times is because the guy seems to also be using another camera for this at another site as well. If you are trying to watch him as he closes in on the final few days of this challenge you can also try http://www.stickam.com/16ksng as I noticed he was playing on this camera and site as well. He also has been posting updates on another site when he doesn’t have the time to update his blog, due to the bet, at http://twitter.com/sngnick
I can’t believe the hours and time this guy has put in, let alone the amount of SnG’s. I have also discovered he is a poker coach training many students at a site called http://www.pokervt.com/app/index.cfm
I don’t know how this guy has time to do anything else but in a “super human” fashion he has been grinding out hours upon hours of play at times putting in over 24hr sessions regularly, and providing updates and still finding time to keep in touch with his students via forum posts. It seems he is so popular with his students at PokcerVT.com , a site with many other pros and well known Daniel Negreanu leading up the team, that they have started calling him the leader of the “Nick Nation” and the “Rainey Army” by many of the students who have also get to participate in many side events put on by both Nick and PokerVT. I have been told he also has an animal spirit guiding him which, somehow, seems to give him a “coin flipping” advantage and help with the persuading of the”god” of the turn and river.
If anything else the “buzz” being created is around the amount of SnG’s played alone has attracted the interest of the book of world records and many other card playing sites. I also believe there is close to 100K in bets on the line as he attempts to make the goal of 16Ksngs and $10,000 in profits during the 30 days allowed. I have, with interest, not been able to comprehend how anybody could pull it off though the confidence that this young man posses seems to be enough to bring him closer and closer day by day.
I think there is less than a week or so left and he is staying strong at times appearing like a “drone” as he uses his superior style to continue to grind towards the final goal.
Variance has also done it’s best to ensure it isn’t easy with days containing swings in the bankroll of over $2000 playing the smaller limits he is just over the $8,000 mark at last check. Good luck in your journey and may you reach this goal in due time.! Yet it would be extra intense if it wasn’t achieved until the final couple of days.
I am thinking of a very few amount of players in the world who could even have a shot at attaining a goal like this which in turn puts Nick Rainey into a level all serious poker players should, I think, respect and appreciate to a degree most marginal players could only dream of!
Cheers to the effort alone! This guy is inspirational at the least. -

He has displayed to the world that he is amongst the top of the list when it comes to online poker playing SnG’s.
Over 16,000 SnG’s and 10,000.00 in profits in less than a month.
I wish him all the best in the future as he continues his journey playing on Full Tilt poker and living life as an inspiration to poker players world wide!
