There is no trouble with the alarm today. I realized last night the problem was not that I set the alarm wrong but that the AM/PM is reversed on the clock itself. I wake up at 10:30AM and we’re out the door by 11.
I meet Stevepa near the cage at the Rio and buy into the event. Again we start of with 3,000 chips at 25/50. My table looks considerably younger than the $1,500 NLH event and I have a feeling today will be a little tougher.
My first hand of action is raising T-T in EP but getting re-raised and folding after another player cold calls.
I don’t play another hand until the 50/100 level:
My stack: ~2,900. UTG+1: ~3,800. I hold A-Ko UTG+3. Blinds 25/50.
Pre-flop: 1 fold, UTG+1 raises to 300, 1 fold, I call (I wonder if in live I should be three betting here intending to do an in-position go and go, seeing as live players cold call re-raises too much. He wasn’t terribly active, but was somewhat loose, I’m not quite sure.) Everyone else folds.
Flop: A-2-4 rainbow
UTG+1 bets 500, I call.
Turn: T
UTG+1 checks, I bet 800, UTG+1 folds.
A round later, I’m involved with the same player who won a small pot since:
My stack: ~4,000 BB: ~4,200. I hold As-Jd UTG+1. 9 handed.
Pre-flop: 1 fold, I raise to 300, folds to BB, BB calls.
Flop: Ah-7h-3h
BB checks. I bet 500 and the BB confidently check-raises to 1,500. I fold. It seems weird/bad to bet/fold A-J here, but I think it’s the best play. Many live players won’t fast play draws and they will call down with weaker draws considerably too loose. However, I think his check-raise range is fairly tight so, overall, the fold ends up being correct.
I fold another round before I’m involved again. We are now 10-handed again:
My stack: ~3,200. UTG+1 ~3,250. I hold A-Ko UTG+2. Blinds 50/100.
Pre-flop: 1 fold, UTG+1 raises to 250. UTG+1 is a TAG young guy who seems sensible.
I don’t think he gets it in very light if I repot here and he hardly ever cold calls a re-raise. I call. It folds to the button who calls, SB folds, BB calls.
Flop: Ks-3c-6c
BB checks, UTG+1 checks, I bet 650, button folds, BB folds, UTG+1 says “I raise pot”. I put the rest of my chips in, he calls and tables Ac-Kc. Shit.
Turn: 2s
River: Jc
I tap the table and tell him good luck. Well, that was another quick one. What the hell do I do now? There’s a $5,000 Mixed-Limit and No-Limit Hold ‘em event at 5PM. Should I? Could I?
