One of our Danish qualifiers, Horatio, won two Main Event seats in a week, flew from Denmark to Vegas, and then was almost unable to play. Luckily, he had a redraw after the life bad beat…
So is this your first WSOP?
Yes. It’s always been a dream of mine to play in the Main Event. I remember reading about the World Series when I was 11 or 12 – there was an article in one of my father’s naked lady magazines about some guy from Texas who had just won it. I thought, “Cool, a World Cup of playing cards.” That was the age when I was first really into cards. I kept the article for five or six years.
I’ve been playing poker for long time, but I’ve always stayed away from the WSOP since you have to pay 60% or even 72% in taxes on gambling profit outside the EU. But I had a really good year this year, so it seemed like now was a good time.

Tom “durrrr” Dwan entered the final day of Event #55: $10,000 PLO with a huge chip lead. He quickly lost 70% of his chips before a near triple-up put him back at the top of the leaderboard. Thinking this might be another epic run at a bracelet with the biggest names in poker sweating (literally), I spent some time on his rail.
Unfortunately, Durrrr didn’t make the final table, but there were still a few interesting sights and sounds from the rail.

Our WSOP interview with Full Tilt Poker qualifier and forum regular Francois8 was pretty popular, so we wanted to do it again. This time, we’ve got FTP forum moderator GypsyDC playing in her first WSOP: Event #54: $1,000 NLH. We’ll get some photos up here as soon as possible. For now, here’s the interview.
So how does this experience rate on the all time life experience list?
This is my first WSOP. I’d say for me it’s definitely in the top five or ten things.
What made you decide to play year?
I was planning to come out to Vegas anyway and hang out and meet some forumers, play some poker with them. Then out of the blue I was offered to be backed 75% by two people on the forum, so I decided to go for it. I didn’t know when I’d have another chance like this.

Following up on Al’s recent Player of the Year Front-runners post:
From now through Saturday at noon ET, you can register for our “Fantasy Player of the Year” contest, in which you attempt to correctly pick the top three finishers in the WSOP’s Player of the Year rankings. It’s free to enter and particularly good for people who:
– are drawing thin in their Fantasy WSOP pools who are looking for relevant WSOP action to sweat
– are doing well in their Fantasy WSOP pools and want to hedge down the homestretch
– entered a Fantasy World Cup pool and don’t even pay attention to it anymore because the injury faking is too nauseating to watch. I’m pretty sure I saw a guy get carried off the field (sitting up) on a stretcher, only to return to the game minutes later. What is that? Don’t get me wrong, soccer’s a great game, but the injury faking is just ridiculous.
