Day 4 was bubble time, Day 5 was “moving day”, and today will when the remaining players try to position themselves for a November Nine appearance. Some massive stacks and top players will be spread throughout the 16 remaining tables. 142 players will start back up at noon and play just four levels. The tables are spread wide giving the room a real sense that we are near the end.
Ben Lamb and David Back spent most of Day 5 trading the lead, Lamb was the first over the 5,000,000 chip mark but Back finished the day with the chip lead. Back famously laid two nasty beats on Vanessa Rousso to stay alive and he’s taking advantage of his bonus time. Joseph Cheong continues to grind along as the only November Niner still in the field and we still have Tony Hachem, brother of 2005 Main Event champion.
The online players are represented by Phil “USCphildo” Collins, Frank “Frank1The1Tank” Calo, Christian “charder30″ Harder, and David “Doc Sands” Sands. The old school players include Eli Elezra, Allen Cunningham, and David Bach.
It’s impossible to tell how fast the action will move along but I suspect will see some early fireworks.
1 – David Bach – 4,706,000
2 – Pius Heinz – 4,699,000
3 – Kyle Johnson – 4,654,000
4 – Phil “USCphildo” Collins – 4,109,000
5 – Ben “benba” Lamb – 4,032,000
6 – Aleksandr Mozhnyakov – 3,462,000
7 – Sebastian Ruthenberg – 3,354,000
8 – Lars Bonding – 3,327,000
9 – Bryan Devonshire – 3,292,000
10 – Thomas Grey – 3,173,000
Other notables: Per Linde (2,986,000), JP Kelly (2,664,000), Tony Hachem (2,067,000), Joseph Cheong (1,988,000), Frank “Frank1The1Tank” Calo (1,686,000), Christian “charder30″ Harder (1,624,000), David “Doc Sands” Sands (1,620,000), Jean-Robert Bellande (1,230,000), Peter Feldman (827,000), Amanda “BodogMander” Musumeci (738,000), Allen Cunningham (641,000)
Level 24:
Things started off today hot and heavy, removing three tables worth of players from the field as just 114 made the first break of the day. The big mover early was Phil “USCphildo” Collins who became the first over 6million and then 7million. He is running over the main feature table and even created a rare situation when the WSOP staff colored up some of his chips off schedule.
Some of the early victims were Chris “boNeZee” Bonita, Carl Olson, and Peter Feldman. 2010 November Niner will not be making back-to-back final tables as he was eliminated near the beginning of Level 24. Hilton Laborda, Steve Rawle, and Guillaume Darcourt are just a few of the players trending northward. Ben “benba” Lamb and Bryan Devonshire continue to cruise along with monster stacks.
Random chip counts
Phil “USCphildo” Collins – 8,686,000
Ben “benba” Lamb – 5,335,000
Bryan Devonshire – 4,777,000
David Bach – 4,285,000
Per Linde – 2,890,000
JP Kelly – 2,710,000
Tony Hachem – 1,800,000
Frank “Frank1The1Tank” Calo – 1,800,000
David “Doc Sands” Sands – 1,650,000
Sorel Mizzi – 1,420,000
Level 25:
We generally see a big flurry of activity after the dinner break and today is no different. At this rate we are likely to see 50-some player at the end of the day if they play the schedule four levels. We now have just two women standing in the remaining 79 players in Erika Moutinho and Amanda “BodogMander” Musumeci.
Some of the more high profile players to hit the rail in the last few hours include Frank “Frank1The1Tank” Calo, Christian “charder30″ Harder, Ben Logan, and Eli Elezra. They are among a big group of busted players standing in line to get paid at the cage.
Phil “USCphildo” Collins continues to be a monster at the table, crawling over 8,000,000 in chips but he has some company now. Ben “benba” Lamb currently leads in the 2011 WSOP Player of the Year race and sitting just behind Collins in the chip counts with 8,110,000. Bryan Devonshit has a top 5 chip stack as well followed down the list by JP Kelly, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Per Linde, James “Not Jimmy” Page, David “Doc Sands” Sands, Erick Lindgren, and Allen Cunningham.
I’m not sure the WSOP will play out the entire four levels scheduled today or we will see a shortened day tomorrow.
Random chip counts:
Phil “USCphildo” Collins – 8,400,000
Ben “benba” Lamb – 8,110,000
Bryan Devonshire – 6,050,000
JP Kelly – 4,340,000
David Bach – 4,020,000
David “Doc Sands” Sands – 2,615,000
Erick Lindgren – 2,525,000
Erika Moutinho – 1,100,000
Amanda “BodogMander” Musumeci – 865,000

It was a great first week of the WSOP with bigger fields and prizepools, exciting final tables, a little screaming, and some top players picking up bracelets. While the atmosphere is still a little pensive throughout the Rio, that hasn’t stopped the players from putting their money down at the window for their shot at glory.
Jake Cody was the first open title winner at an extremely rowdy final match in the Heads Up Championship that will be fun to watch (or listen to) when it’s broadcast by ESPN. Eugene Katchalov continued his hot streak with his first WSOP bracelet while also stopping Full Tilt’s Alessio Isaia on his own heater. East coast, and long suffering, grinder Allen Bari won his first WSOP title after several big scored outside the series, defeating fan favorite Maria Ho (pictured below) heads up at the end.
7 bracelets, 3 countries, and plenty of dreams made over the first week of the WSOP.
Event #1 – $500 Casino Employees – Sean Drank (U.S.) – $82,292
Event #2 – $25,000 Heads Up Championship – Jake Cody (England) – $525,980
Event #3 – $1,500 Limit Omaha/8 – Francesco Barbaro (U.S.) – $262,283
Event #4 – $5,000 No Limit Hold’em – Allen Bari (U.S.) – $874,116
Event #5 – $1,500 Seven Card Stud – Eugene Katchalaov (Ukraine) – $122,909
Event #6 – $1,500 Limit Hold’em – Harrison Wilder (U.S.) – $205,065
Event #7 – $10,000 Pot Limit Hold’em Championship – Amir Lehavot (U.S.)- $573,456
Before the series wrote about the players to watch this summer and so far my picks are looking pretty good including an flat out bracelet from Ukranian Eugene Katchalov. So far they have cashed in all but two of the open tournaments and pulled more than $250,000 from the prizepool. Josh Brikis will begin the day with a big score after making the 2-7 No Limit final table.
Eugene Katcholov – $122,909 (1 final table, 1 WSOP bracelet)
Tom Dwan – $67,436
Tim “Tmay420″ West – $22,563
Allen Cunningham – $8,191
Erik Seidel – $6,868
The second week of the 2011 World Series of Poker brings a bigger slate of games and a little something for everyone. 12 new tournaments with three $10,000 Championships (Limit Omaha/8, 2-7 No Limit Draw, Seven Card Stud), shorthanded, shootouts, and another $1k massive field. There will be even more long nights and extended tournaments. You can find the Week 2 schedule below.

It was a big day for Heads Up poker yesterday with the $25,000 Heads Up Championship playing down their final four and the Main Event grudge matches played out on the nifty new ESPN stage. Two Tilters have a chance to collect the first bracelet of the summer and there is still one epic Grudge Match to run.
Just one round was played in the HU Championship but the matches produced a final four worthy of the main stage. Eric Froehlich wasn’t even sure he was going to play in this event up until the registration as he was trying to sell off some of his action. Those who took a shot on “EFro” are certainly happy now. He will take on monster Ukranian Yevgeniy Timoshenko with a chance to make the finals.
Gus Hansen’s match was much smoother than his previous versus Tom Dwan. He never had to reach towards his 2 “rebuy” chips before dispatching Matt Marafioti. Hansen will battle it out with Jake Cody and try to back up his WSOP-E Heads Up title.
Gus Hansen versus Jake Cody
Eric Froehlich versus Yevgeniy Timoshenko
The second tournament to award a bracelet today will be the $1,500 Limit Omaha/8 Event #3. As we can expect to see throughout the summer, this tournament did not make it down to the final table and they’ll have to play from 25 to a winner (unless it goes over 10 levels, then back tomorrow). Francesco Barbaro is the front runner but Matt Waxman is right on his heels. Scott Clements loves his Omaha tournaments is still alive but will begin the day with just over 4 big bets. The winner will take home $262,283 and a shiny gold bracelet.
1 – Francesco Barbaro – 459,000
2 – Matt Waxman – 458,000
3 – Vladir Shchemelev – 335,000
4 – Bradley Helm – 308,000
5 – Jimmy Fricke – 278,000
6 – Dan Smith – 235,000
7 – Kostas Kalathakis – 209,000
8 – Michael Deveronica – 200,000
9 – Ricard Monroe – 184,000
10 – Travis Pearson – 175,000
Other notables: Humberto Brenes (160,000), Scott Clements (84,000), Lex Velduis (27,000)
Two other events will bring players back for their Day 2 including the $5,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament which drew another stellar field. 243 of the starting 865 players return and will make the money later today. 81 spots are paid with 1st place picking up a cool $874,116. The 2009 bracelet winner in this event, Brian Lemke, comes into the day sitting near the top of the leaderboard.
1 – Gavin Cochrane – 175,500
2 – Victor Ramdin – 174,700
3 – Brian Lemke – 171,900
4 – Gregory Dyer – 138,800
5 – David “Doc” Sands – 138,100
6 – Jordan Morgan – 136,900
7 – Matthew Braund – 135,600
8 – Jamie Rosen – 133,900
9 – Ashley Mason – 132,600
10 – Joe Tehan – 129,900
Other notables: Brandon Cantu (129,500), Shane Schleger (112,700), Darren Elias (112,700), Erick Lindgren (102,200), Luke “IWEARGOGGLES” Staudenmaier (93,700), JC Tran (81,100), Jonathan Little (80,600), Gavin Griffin (75,300), Matt Glantz (75,000)
Two new events also begin today with one small-ish and one big. The noon tournament is the grinders special, Limit Hold’em for $1,5000 and a small piece of their sanity. Matt Matros is the defending champion. 5pm brings the next $10,000 tournament with the Pot Limit Hold’em Championship. This event drew 268 players last year so we can expect a similar field this time around.

Allen Cunningham plays a little chess between hands
The WSOP took a deep breath and a day off but will return with a vengeance this afternoon. Day 3 starts at noon with the entire field together for the first time, a few thousands players all sharing the same dream. Build the stack, make it through the day, get into the money, November Nine. Not even a third of those remaining will even make the min-cash but they’ll still come in ready to do some damage. Today we find out who will be ready to make that big run.
We’ll also begin to see the end of the summer. When a table gets broken today, it stays broken. It’s a cold sight to behold when the Harrah’s facilities crew swoops in to literally break down the table and stack the chairs. There is no tomorrow for most.

It was a busy day yesterday online with the full slate of Big Money Sunday games including the switch from the $750,000 Guarantee to the $1,000,000 big game but everyone kept their bankrolls aimed at “Aid for Haiti” fund raisers. Poker players took to the tables across the internet to do they’re part to help those suffering from the devastating earth quake in Haiti last week. I am still waiting on the official numbers from the tournaments and direct player-to-player donations but Full Tilt players did raise over $65,000 in the “No Play” tournaments alone. Well done.
Team Full Tilt member Andy Bloch was seen leading the way generating participation in the hourly “Aid for Haiti” tournaments. Bloch played throughout the night and into the morning from Las Vegas, entering most of the events and offering up a bounty on his head. Anyone who knocked him out would be shipped an autographed copy of his DVD “Beating Blackjack with Andy Bloch”. That put me in the mood to offer up some of my FTP Points for any book or DVD in the Full Tilt Store to anyone knocking me out, unfortunately no one seemed to understand or want the bounties. Andy suggested I offer to autograph them myself but I did not want to devalue the items. I hope to return later today with the final numbers across the board.
For the record, that was one of my more spectacular exits in awhile. All in the money in on the flop, I hate Jacks.
Big Money Sunday was dominated by the over $1,200,000 prizepool and severalpros going deep. Allen Cunningham was the biggest name to go deep in the biggest game, cashing out $17,199 for his final table appearance (9th) in the $1M Guarantee and Jeff Madsen sounding disappointed with his 33rd place finish. He was stacked well but dusted off after a few horrid beats. JAMA1CA2008 was our big winner of the night pocketing $225,368 for his win in the $1M Guarantee after outlasting “4ortik76″ in an long heads up battle. Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy had two big runs and friend of the blog Lee “acumen53″ Childs just missed a final table appearance in the Sunday Brawl. The $200,000 Rebuy continues to attract a pro heavy field and the most rail-worthy final tables, this week with Nick “FU_15″ Maimone, Steve “gboro780″ Gross, and Adam “AKat11″ Katz with “LeoEleven” coming away with the victory.
The monster field of the day was found in the third installment of the “Big Little Tournament” which drew over 33,000 and lasted just around 9 hours. The overlay this week was over $85,000 adding huge value to a tournament already offering a huge guarantee for microscopic price. The play was typical of smaller buyin events and has been run over by a truck in this space. I will offer up a little railbirding advice if you are one of us sick souls still awake at the conclusion of these tournaments or the $200,000 Double Deuce. Just wait for them to “make a deal” and enjoy the unintentional comedy, it’s worth the price of sleep deprivation most weeks.
Next week will bring the final “Big Little Tournament” (as far as this blogger knows) and it will be a fantastic turbo format. Full Tilt has also announce the creation of a new promotion which will double the guarantees of all regular events creating a $25,000,000 prizepool for the week starting January 26th. I will definitely be back to talk about “$25 Million Double Guarantees Week”

Perry Friedman rocks the Full Tilt Poker “grill” to go with his corn rows
I’ve generally stuck to doing a “Week in Pictures” during the preliminary events of the WSOP but I now realize that I’ll be getting more photos than I know what to do with now that we’ve come to the Main Event. So now we’re going to switch up to daily posts as long as we continue to get quality images.
Day 1a started with 1,116 and finished with 821 players. A good number of Team Full Tilt survived to see Day 2.

It was another great week for Team Full Tilt. Final tables were populated with players patched up in FTP gear and make a lot of noise. Three bracelets would be brought into the fold by Phil Ivey, Nick Schulman and Greg “FBT” Mueller. If the rest of the poker world wants to catch up, they better start working hard.
It’s Friday so that means it’s time for the Week in Pictures. These are just some of the collection that did not make any posts during the week but are worthy of your time

In my other life as a completely unprofessional blogger (I am semi-pro at best in this space), I always take the stand that posting nothing but pictures on your site is just the crutch of a weak blogger. Words are hard, pretty picture keep the masses coming back. However, pictures can have the great effect of enhancing a story and I’ve been getting some top shelf images sent my way via Images Masters. Each Friday I’ll share with you some of the best images available.

Allen Cunningham is among many Full Tilt Pros ready to cash in the Five Diamond Poker Classic at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Your humble blogger has returned successfully from a Las Vegas vacation with my liver and bankroll intact. There are many tales to come from playing in the charity poker game, watching bloggers donk their way through a deepstack tournament at the Venetian and playing too many -EV games. I’ll have those stories later in the week.
There are a couple of really big tournaments going on these days and Full Tilt has their representatives. The World Series of Poker Circuit event in Atlantic City is down to their Main Event final table and the Five Diamond Poker Classic at the Bellagio will have the money bubble burst later today. Those details and the final payouts from the Big Money Sunday tournaments after the jump.
