“May you live in interesting times.” – Chinese proverb/curse
We’ve seen a few weeks of interesting news around Full Tilt Poker but the show must go on, including the 45 events comprising FTOPS XX which saw smaller fields with the exclusion of US players but also a winning class from all around the world. While we work out the details for our US-based players (you can find the FAQ here), there was plenty of action the deserved attention.
One result is we now see a new batch of players from outside the States who will have a chance to shine. I personally expected to see a large number of Brazilians jump to the forefront during FTOPS XX but it turns out Europe was ready to shine. Russia lead the way with 7 FTOPS titles followed by Germany with six, while Canada was the top country from the Americas with 6 and Brazil only collecting two jerseys. Below is how the 45 titles were divided up around the world.
7 – Russia
6 – Canada
6 – Germany
3 – Sweden
2 – Australia
2 – Austria
2 – Brazil
2 – Denmark
2 – Kazakhstan
2 – Norway
2 – Ukraine
2 – United Kingdom
1 – Italy
1 – Malta
1 – Netherlands
1 – Portugal
1 – Romania
1 – South Korea
1 – Switzerland
This was also a remarkable series for both repeat winners and new Full Tilt Red Pro winners. Newly minted pro Peter Jetten took advantage of the smaller, expensive field to win his first FTOPS title in the $10,000 buy-in Heads up tournament. The only two titles for Australia were captured by red pros, Jonathan Karamalikis won the $300 6-max rebuy event (Full Tilt pro Cristiano “crisbus” Guerra finished 3rd) and the always charismatic Billy “The Croc” Argyros conquered the Stud/8 Event #36.
There were also four repeat champions including the only two wins this series for Kazakhstan when KoksharovSergey captured FTOPS XX Events #18 and #34. The other player to capture two titles in FTOPS XX was “iseeyouthrough” from the heavy Russian contigent. Germany’s “NatWork” followed up his FTOPS XIX victory with his second jersey in Event #41 while Russia’s “NoParasan” also added his second FTOPS title.
The absence of the US players was evident throughout with total entries dropping from 82,429 during FTOPS XIX to 39,021 for FTOPS XX. But there were also plenty of added value for our players as we saw nearly $259,000 in overlays due to missed guarantees, the total prizepool for FTOPS XX still exceeded $16,000,000.
Stayed tuned for more information to come out later this week, in the meantime we still have our WSOP Main Event seat satellites for eligible players and we’ll be there to cover the proceedings.

This was the “slow” Sunday on Full Tilt, the weekend sandwiched between Double Guarantees week and the kickoff of FTOPS XX on April 17th but how that definition was crushed with a nearly $2,000,000 prizepool in the biggest game of the day along with the $1,000 Onyx Cup Qualifier. So while there wasn’t the kind of action we’ve seen over the last several weeks, there were still plenty of opportunities out there for players to pick up a big prize.
$1,922,400 was the prizepool in the biggest tournament of the day after the guarantee was bumped to $1,500,000 and switched to a Multi-entry format. A significant increase in money from the standard $750,000 which usually accompanies the $200+16 buyin and nearly 10,000 players took advantage off the field. 1,080 entries made the money but it was “Mr Boogerz” (nice name sir) who would take the top prize of $307,584 for the win.
We saw another interesting deal made in the Sunday Brawl to kickoff the day when “lindah3″ finished in 3rd but banked more money then the runner up and eventual winner “Exan13″. The $200,000 Guarantee (Rebuy) had another stellar final table on display with Full Tilt pro Jono Karamalikis, Michael “grindtherail” Lavin, and Keven “Stamdogg” Stammen who would beat Stan “stanman420″ Lee after a long heads up battle. Kevin “Wu_Wizard” MacPhee was the player of note to make the Sunday Mulligan final table but drop out of the tournament in 6th.
The most entertaining final table was in the second Onyx Cup Qualifier, a $1,000 buyin satellite to the high stakes poker tournament in May. At stake was a winner-take-all $100,000 seat in the first Onyx Cup event and 3 of the 4 final players were all world class. “Eldos” from Kazakhstan was facing three players with six WSOP bracelets between them in Daniel “FakeSky” Alaei (3), Josh Arieh (2), and David “Bussa Buss” Baker (1). After a long battle, the anonymous “Eldos” would outlast, outflop the rail favorite David Baker to book a seat in the biggest tournament of his life. Look forward to meeting the mystery man on May 11th.
With the conclusion of Big Money Sunday it is time to turn the grinder attention to FTOPS XX which starts with a nice $3,000,000 in the first event. Satellites for all FTOPS events are running around the clock, pick up a big score on the cheap. Full Tilt also recently announced the schedule for MiniFTOPS XX for our lower bankrolled players. Plenty of chances for our players to inflate their bankroll.

The final weekend of Double Guarantees Week brought another boat load of players to the online tables concluding with a Sunday featuring triple guaranteed prizepools. This ballooned things up to 11 payouts which topped the six figure mark including a 5-handed deal in the Sunday Brawl which saw 5th place paying out more than any of the other four which finished afterwards. Two Full Tilt pros came up just short of a win in one of the majors, a 2008 November Niner made a run in the biggest tournament of the day, and the $600,000 (rebuy) payout roster was a who’s who of the online poker world.
Luckily Full Tilt has given us the next weekend to gather our breath with a regular schedule before FTOPS XX kicks off on April 17th.
The Sunday Brawl kicked things off by blasting over it’s guarantee and came just 56 entries short of a cool $2,000,000 prizepool right out of the gate. It was a solid final table which featured two top players in Yevgeniy “bballer88″ Timoshenko and Casey “bigdogpckt5s” Jarzabek but it would be “SOLID_FUNDS” who would take the 1st place along with the coveted Best Trash Talker award for his constant ragging on Jarzabek from two tables down. The big winner of the tournament was “Popp1987″ who managed to work a deal where his 5th place finish grabbed him $227,845 of the prizepool, larger than any of those who finished after him. Well played sir.
The always entertaining 16:00 rebuy tournament was bumped up to a $600,000 guarantee and once again did not disappoint. Several players ran multiple entries deep including Jay “THE_GOLDMINE” Kinkade (7th/30th) but it was a heads up battle of pros when Kyle “kwob20″ Bowker out lasted Full Tilt Pro Joao Barbosa for the win. You can look below at the results for the long list of big names players who would go deep in the tournament, I generally list the notable names in the top 100 and this took awhile.
The Sunday Mulligan was the next tournament to play down to a winner and Full Tilt’s David Chiu was the next to just miss the victory. He finished 2nd to Mike “dartz222″ Dietrich at a final table which also featured WSOP champion Scott Clements. The last major of the day also featured a fine collection of the names coming up just short.
The big game of the day was the tripled up $2,250,000 Guarantee which drew of 14,000 entrants and 1st place would end up carding a score over $350,000 on the day. Casey “bigdogpckt5s” Jarzabek was looking for his second major final table of the day but would come up just short as would Jason “TheMasterJ33″ Dewitt. As players busted and tables combined, the twitter world was all atwitter with the news of 2008 November Niner Chino “TheComeUp” Rheem making a big run at the title.
While most of the remaining players were looking for the biggest payday of their career, Rheem was sporting a rail which included several Mizrachi brothers, Mike Matusow, Stuart Paterson, and an all-star cast of characters cheering him on. Easily the most entertaining tournament to watch but the crowd favorite would have to settle for just a 14th place showing. The wee hours of the morning would see the final 4 players chop up nearly $1,100,000 between them with happymon32 ($353,769) getting the biggest cut.
Those were just a few of the huge fields throughout the day. There was something for all stakes/games with the first $1 WSOP Main Event Qualifier kicking off along with the Double Deuce and FTOPS XX satellites. Enjoy the short pause as more great promotions are right around the corner including the Take 2 bonuses, FTOPS/MiniFTOPS XX, and so many cheap ways to satellite into the 2011 World Series of Poker.

While the latest Double Guarantees Week wasn’t scheduled to kick off until midnight eastern, Full Tilt decided to double up on the regular $750,000 with a Multi-entry $200+16 with a $1,500,000 Guarantee which grew to $2,267,800 before registration was closed. Yesterday was also the first of three Onyx Cup Qualifiers giving players a chance to win a $105,000 package for $640 which was sporting a significant overlay.
Calvin “Cal4688″ Anderson was the big money winner on the day after a heads up chop in the $1,500,000 put over $300,000 in his bankroll. It was battle at a final table that featured 2010 November Nine runner up John Racener, Bryan “Boston3Party” Leskowitz, and Barry “bearw8″ Wiedemann. Thayer “THAY3R” Rasmussen, Joe “bigegypt” Elpayaa, and Lauren “locoenlacabeza” Kling were also in the running for the top prize but all fell just short of the final table.
Leskowitz also produced a nice result in the shark filled waters of the $200,000 (Rebuy) tournament. That was just another stacked final table with Joe “hoodini10″ Udine, Andrew “Browndog19″ Brown, and another 2010 November Niner in Soi Nguyen continuing his solid beginning to the year. The Sunday Brawl trumped them all as far as talent to entertain the rail with Mickey “Mement_mori” Petersen, Brent “Bhanks11″ Hanks, Cyriel “supa4real” Dohmen, and David “gaucho2121″ Paredes all looking up as TJ “DarkHorse19″ Ulmer took the top prize.
Also having an excellent Sunday were Matt “All In At 420″ Stout, David “Doc Sands” Sands, and Stan “stanman420″ Lee. Full Tilt’s David Chiu came up just one spot short of winning the Sunday Mulligan as Ed “foxypham” Pham took it down.
2010 BLUFF Player of the Year Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi hit perhaps the single biggest prize becoming the first player to book a seat at the inaugural Onyx Cup Series Event. He outlasted 123 other players in a winner-take-all battle that included some of the biggest players in the game. Satellites continue to run for the Qualifiers as well as near non-stop freeroll SnGs for the final Onyx Cup freeroll on May 1st. All Onyx Cup Series Qualifier information can be found here.

After the last few weeks of crazy action on the Full Tilt tables it was nice to have a Sunday afternoon where the biggest prizepool was only $864,000. A week Double Guarantee Multi-Entry tournaments followed by two weeks of FTOPS XIX was enough to blow the doors off nearly a month of tournaments. That doesn’t mean we didn’t see plenty of action across the major tournaments of the day including a nice double-double by a couple big names in the game.
Full Tilt pro Jordan Morgan and Penn State University student Eric “Avril Sharapova” Ladny started their great run as part of a star studded final table in the $200,000 Guarantee (rebuy) tournament along with Kory “s00tedj0kers89″ Kilpatrick, Dan “imabigkidnow” Kelly, and Chad “CHADda2ND” Eveslage. Both came up short of the title with Ladny losing the heads up battle but collecting over $46,000 for his efforts. A few hours later and things were getting interesting in the Sunday Mulligan when both Morgan and Ladny were still alive with two tables remaining. They once again made the final table for the fun twist of the evening and were joined by Tim “highlandfox” Finne in the final four of the tournament. This time around Ladny would not settle for a second place finish, completing the win for another $56,000. For his part, Jordan Morgan finished 5th in the $200,000 Guarantee and 4th in the Sunday Mulligan.
While we’ve had a relatively quiet week, it’s time to start ramping up the excitement for MiniFTOPS XIX which kicks off in just a few days. Satellites are underway for the $8,000,000 Guarantee series built for the smaller bankroll players, same big tournaments for just 1/10th of the FTOPS buyin. Event 1 kicks off on Sunday, March 6th.

There were a bunch of adjectives being thrown around yesterday to describe the tables on Full Tilt during “Big Money Sunday”. Words like massive, huge, gigantor, bankroll busting, insanity, and a few not fit for publishing. For once it wasn’t hyperbole as the perfect storm of online tournaments hit the site yesterday, Double Guarantees Week and the coming out party for the Multi-Entry tournament format all combined to create what I believe is the biggest tournament day in the history of Full Tilt Poker. A more dedicated writer would go about the process of checking that claim but I’ll wait for the Kevmath-bot to check my math.
We knew it was going to be something special when the Sunday Brawl came screaming out of the gates and blew the doors off the guarantee. The normal guarantee prizepool is set at $400,000 with this week’s doubled to $800,000. That number was more than doubled again when registration was closed with a prizepool of $1,753,200 in the first major of the day. A deal at the final table meant both David Sonelin and Aaron “SpanishKey” Been walked away with over $200,000 added to their bankroll. Cyriel “supa4real” Dohmen and Full Tilt’s Damian Salas were the other two players in the event to earn over $100,000 for their efforts. This would also be the last major to see a chop at the end.
The player momentum carried over to the biggest game on the site. $200+16 for a $1,500,000 Guaranteed tournament seemed like great value and it was well over the number with ease. There were still 5 levels remaining in late registration when the prizepool went over $2,500,000, finally settling at $2,881,800 (14,409 entries) when all was said and done. This set the scene for a final table where the top 5 would collectively take home over $1,200,000 and Anthony “BtCh I MiTe Be” Bruno won the 1st place price of $439,877 outright. With such a huge field you would expect a solid number of unknowns at the final table but we were stacked high with Matt “mattyv” Vengrin, David “Doc Sands” Sands, Nick “agriffrod” Mitchell, Hiren “hustla16″ Patel, and Kyle “PXFACTOR” Brossia.
One interesting twist was monitoring for those who went deep while maintaining more than one entry it the event. Full Tilt pro Marc Karam went deep in the $1,500,000 Guarantee but was unable to pull off the mythical “merged stacks”. Chad “CHADda2ND” Eveslage was sitting with two entries remaining as the Sunday Brawl slipped under 100 players but no love there either. The $400,000 Guarantee (rebuy) gave us our best chance at seeing a player merge stacks when both Adam “TheSquee” Sherman and Bjorn “kleath” Kleathersson had two entries alive with 4 tables remaining. Sherman would make the final table but his other entry was eliminated in 32nd place. I thought for sure Kleathersson when he had a healthy stack on both tables as we hit 18 players remaining.
Neither of his entries made the final table, I am The Cooler.
Eleven players won $100,000 or greater during the day. The three majors generated over $5,300,000 in money from almost 27,000 entries. I would call that a very big day online here. Now it’s time for everyone to get ready for FTOPS XIX.

Last night was the final Big Money Sunday before a few weeks of craziness on the site and things started off strong. Live/online monster Chris “boNeZee” Bonita made The Sunday Brawl final table, after running down Josh “brikdog24″ Brikis, then worked his way a victory and over $120,000. The event came just 5 players away from an even $600,000 prizepool for the initial major of the day.
The rest of the day seemed to quiet down as far as big names making big scores and only the $200,000 Guarantee (rebuy) had a final table deal. That leaves a lot of players making big bankroll jumps throughout the day. Scott Fischman had the best chance for the red letter pros for a big run but had his stack chopped up in the Sunday Mulligan for a 14th place finish. “Im young money” was the biggest winner on the day when he/she was a victor in the $750,000 Guarantee in the early morning hours for $144,000.
While the final majors of the day were running their course, the lobby click rolled over to midnight to kick off one of the best weeks for online tournament players. The always popular Double Guarantees Week is now underway. The normal guarantees on tournaments have been doubled as well as most including the Multi-Entry twist to the game. You can have up to four entries in most tournaments and enjoy the huge fields, the value in these tournaments is tremendous. With the guarantees jumping over $30,000,000 Full Tilt Poker will be the place to play MTT’s for the next week. I see a lot of tired eyes by the time the promotions ends.
Not long after Double Guarantees Week, it will be time to hit the satellites for a shot at your big score and FTOPS jersey. FTOPS XIX kicks off on February 6th and will feature over $22,000,000. Satellites are always running and can be found under the FTOPS tab in the lobby. Add up the numbers and we’re looking at nearly $35,000,000 in guaranteed prize money between now and the middle of February. It’s a great time to be an online tournament player.

It’s always fun to play in the other guy’s sandbox once in a while and a few our pros did just that over the last week. Newly inked Full Tilt pro Shawn Buchanan reportedly won the PCA $5,000 8-game mix tournament for an unknown amount of money and a trophy which is not TSA approved. Team Full Tilt and recent Poker Hall of Fame inductee Erik Seidel crashed the party in the $25,000 High Roller event but only managed a 4th place finish while the $100,000 High Roller final table had both Nick Schulman and Andrew “luckychewy” Lichtenberger sporting the Full Tilt logos.
Friend o’ the blog and part of the infamous “poker media”, Kristin “Change100″ made us all proud and will be hoisting a fine ROI after she satellited into the PCA Ladies Event then followed it up with a victory. (Allow this post to be my official congrats!). She battled a tough field and defeated Lauren Kling heads up to take the title. Kling settled for second in that event but did not rest. Just a day later and she had another deep run in the Sunday Mulligan, just missing another final table.
Jon “EMSBas” Spinks was the most visible player during the Sunday majors with a final table in the Sunday Brawl and monthly $1million Guarantee. There was a 3-way chop at that final table assuring all would pick up at least $125,000 with “TheoWalcott14″ making the most added money in the deal. Melanie Weisner was the highest finishing red pro in the $200,000 Guarantee (rebuy) reaching the final table along with Alex “ArgentinaBoy” Queen and Mohsin “chicagocards1″ Charania. The prize for the dullest heads up match easily goes to Russian players “tvh-tmk888″ and “Nice hAnd ok” who min-raised their way til the sun came up in the Sunday Brawl.
Keep your eyes open for a few promotions coming your way including Double Guarantees Week beginning on January 24th and FTOPS XIX on February 6th. You may also have noted the new Multi_Entry Tournaments were rolled out last week, another crazy twist in tournament poker. Now there is a nightly event aptly dubbed “The Kitchen Sink” and features something for everybody. It is a Multi-Entry, Knockout, SuperTurbo, 6-handed Rush tournament with a $3,000 Guarantee for just a $2.50+.20 buyin. It is one of the craziest tournaments I have ever witnessed, you should give them a shot.

It was good Sunday for a few of our 2010 November Nine members as both John Dolan and Soi Nguyen had deep runs for serious cash. Mike “GoLeafsGoEh” Leah, Faraz “The-Toilet 0″ Jaka, and David “Sonelin” Sonelin also came away from the Sunday majors with multiple scores making sure the rail had plenty of entertainment on every final table. The second Sunday of the year brought together another group of tournaments with huge payouts.
John Dolan is no stranger to big final table and he kicked off a great Sunday for the red letter pros with a 6th place finish in the Sunday Brawl for just over $18,000. It’s unclear how many bounties he collected along the way but it was a good sign after our pros were shut out of final tables last week. Soi Nguyen continued his crazy string of tournament cashes since he began seeing his name in red. Whether he considers himself a pro or not, his ROI since signing with Full Tilt is an insane 1750% after he finished 2nd in the Sunday Mulligan. He doesn’t play many tournaments but this score added to his FTOPS victory in November puts his numbers into the stratosphere with a small sample size. Allen Cunningham and Erica Schoenberg also finished their evening with some deep runs.
The online grinders were represented by Mike “GoLeafsGoEh” Leah who added over $100,000 to his bankroll, Faraz “The-Toilet 0″ Jaka and David “Sonelin” Sonelin both ran off multiple runs including Sonelin’s 2nd place finish in the $200,000 Guarantee (rebuy). When Christina “christinalindley” Lindley busted from the Sunday Mulligan it also ended one of the more lively tables on the site, she certainly generates action from the fanboys on the rail.
2011 is shaping up to be a fun year on the Full Tilt tables, especially during the Sunday majors when bankroll can make drastic shifts. You can satellite into the Big Money Sunday events for a few dollars. For even bigger action, FTOPS XIX details have been released. 45 events with $22,000,000 in guaranteed money to kick off on February 6th.

While I was unsure how the response would be last Sunday for the majors, I was pretty confident we’d see a pretty big turnout this weekend. Granted there may have been a few grinders who hit the parties a little hard and were still comatose by Sunday afternoon but most were ready to fire away. The field sizes seemed to back up my sideways reasoning with larger than average prizepools and a wide ranging group of pople making the big money. Three players had a day where they pocketed over $100,000 with two others getting very close. Deals were made in every major event with the 2nd place finisher in the Sunday Brawl picking up more money than our outright winner.
Never a dull moment.
Andras Nemeth looks to have been one of the top earners of the first Big Money Sunday with a 12th place finish to go along with his near $120,000 check for his 2nd place finish in the $750,000 Guarantee. “Docdog1″ gets out Nice Deal Award for his second place finish in the Sunday Brawl, picking up just shy of $110,000 while Sunday Brawl victor “neker2013″ will have to comfort himself with $90,000. It was a rare no show this weekend by the red letter pros at the major final tables, with Scott Clements seeming to have the best results.
Big Money Sunday results are listed below.

Now that the holidays have come and gone, it’s time to ramp things back up here in our little space. We have a 2010 recap post in the pipeline as well as a preview of 2011 including a little poker roadtrip I will be kicking off this weekend. In the meantime, there are plenty of great satellites going on around the clock for the WPT Bay101 Shooting Star Main Event, 2011 Aussie Millions, 6th Annual Full Tilt Poker Miriam Foundation Montreal Open. You can check out the links for details as well as the main site for some great new promotions.
