big money sundays landing Big Money (Holiday) Sunday December 26thI was unsure what to expect for the final Big Money Sunday of 2010 with it coming on the day after Christmas (and directly on Boxing Day for a UK/Canadian/Aussie/Kiwi friends). As it turns out, the turnout for the tournaments was pretty much on par with every other week of the majors. The events blasted over their guarantee marks like a normal Sunday meaning it was a late night/early morning for a few players and one very tired blogger.

Of all those players sitting near the top of Bluff’s 2010 Online Player of the Year rankings, the yardstick I chose to judge these things, Jordan “Jymaster11″ Young had the biggest day on the site. His day included a deep finish in the $750,000 Guarantee and the last man standing in the $200,000 Guarantee (rebuy) pocketing nearly $80,000. This will not give him a jump to the top of their leaderboard but it was not a bad way to cap off the year.

Marc Karam was out sole Full Tilt pro to make a final table appearance on the day, also in the $200,000 Guarantee (rebuy), but we did see other decent cashes by Gavin Smith and Joseph Cheong. Poker monster Yevgeniy “bballer88″ Timoshenko was a final table participant in the Sunday Brawl adding a little rockstar feel to a day otherwise belonging to those who could appreciate a little bankroll boost.

Big Money Sunday results are below.

Mizrachi Michael 1879 MiniFTOPS XVIII, Big Money Sunday, and a deep Mizrachi run

It was a big day on the site with the monthly $1,000,000 Guarantee hitting at the same time as the final events of MiniFTOPS XVIII. That created two prizepools over $1,000,000 and five players with paydays over 6 digits if you include the final day of Event #29. While spending my day railing I was having difficultly coming up with a theme for today’s post. Nothing spectacular was occurring deep in the final MiniFTOPS event, with the final one not finishing until the sun was up on the east coast, and the best final table at the time was in the $200k Guarantee. That table featured Lauren “locoenlacabeza” Kling, Jeff “YoungSupremacy” Hakim, Bryan “Boston3Party” Leskowitz, and former FTOPS winner “LuCkyTDoGG”.

This was until the $1,000,000 Guarantee started getting deep and one name jumped near the top. I had to double check a few times on the authenticity, but sure enough we had “missgrinder” ready to make a huge final table. “missgrinder” is none other than the better half of 2010 November Nine Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi (pictured above in the stands). She was near the top of the field while play condensed down and came to the final table as one of three players over a million in chips. She hung in tough and played well down the stretch but was unable to defeat table bully “dlanger610″. She finished the day collecting $141,000 for her efforts and easily the biggest rail at the final table.

While researching today’s post I could only find a little on the winner “dlanger610″. The best I came up with is being banned from the 2+2 forum. Congrats on that great accomplishment, I need to work on my efforts to get banned.

The rest of the evening was spent contemplating how much money was added to the prizepool of our smaller rolled players. The were very few huge names making a splash during MiniFTOPS XVIII meaning there are lot of players making a bump to the bankroll. I’ve spend a good part of the last few years railing tournaments both online and live (see the title of the blog) but found very few names marquee names deep in the fields. Over 210,000 players bought into this incarnation of the MiniFTOPS series pocketing well over $7.3million, I’m willing to bet the lower limit cash games are going to be juicy for the next few weeks.

RushWeek Big Money Sunday December 5th

Yesterday was the last chance to get your piece of Rush Week bonus money and Full Tilt tweaked the regular Big Money Sunday lineup by changing the Sunday Brawl into a Rush Tournament. It took just over 6 hours to award the first +$100,000 prize to “DaMurdera3″ on the day. The Rush tables were packed throughout the week and we saw more players in our regular tournaments.

Keven “Stamdogg” Stammen was our big winner on the day with two final tables (as well as on some other site I’ve heard) in the last majors of the day. He notched a 6th place finish in the $750,000 Guarantee and 9th place in the Sunday Mulligan, both results added nearly $30,000 to his bankroll. “Cobalt56″ was our biggest winner taking home an even $125,000 for his 2nd place finish in the $750k, more than eventual winner “ravagee” after a heads up deal was made. With 20 players remaining it looked like “Stamdogg” would be joined by a stellar final table but Brian “ship_the_perc” Lemke, Matt “I Pay Ur Rent” Iles, and Ronald “ScarJo” Lee all came up just short.

We are just a few days away from the next series of small buyin/big guarantee tournaments with MiniFTOPS XVIII kicking off on December 8th with $6,000,000 in guaranteed prize pools. Check out the main page for MiniFTOPS XVIII for the schedule, satellites, and leaderboards.

big money sundays landing Big Money Sunday November 28thThere was every excuse in the world for a slow day in the majors this weekend but that wasn’t the case. A WPT event throwing down in exotic Marrakesh, family holiday weekend here in the State along with the associated capitalistic spending sprees which follow did nothing to deter players from jumping into the guarantee events on Sunday with both feet. After a few weeks of missing the the $750,000 guarantee, it looks like a time change and structure tweak had a positive impact with the numbers running high.

Unlike the recent FTOPS incarnation and Big Money Sunday’s, there were few huge online grinder names among the final tally of winners meaning there will be some fresh meat in the high limit lobbies. It looked to be a different story when Nick “Grippolio” Grippo took down the Sunday Brawl at a final table which included FTOPS XVIII Event #33 winner Tim “timkrank” Miles. Nicolas “nicos11″ Chouity looks to have had one of the best days with a victory in the marquee $200,000 (rebuy) tournament followed by a deep finish in the $750,000 Guarantee. We could also include 2010 November Niner John Dolan who showed a decent run in the Sunday Mulligan as well as a 10th place finish in another Sunday “major” elsewhere.

While it may have been a sluggish weekend for some of the big names in poker, we did have two players spend a little time on “Black Friday” to play some heads up poker. After a few months delay Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Dan “jungleman12″ Cates resumed their action in the durrrr 2 Challenge. They played two session and over 2,000 hands with Dwan able to pull back a little on Cates overwhelming ~$640,000 lead. Over 80% of the challenge remains to be played so anything can happen. Below are just two of the hands I captured during the action and I will return tomorrow with a more detailed update (click to enlarge).

You can check out the results and some of the biggest hands by visiting the official durrrr Challenge stats page.

big money sundays landing Big Money Sunday Halloween EditionA large chunk of the U.S. population, as well as a few around the world, spent their Sunday night participating in Halloween festivities which basically involve kids dressed in costumes begging for sweets, adults dressed in costumes begging for sympathy along with their adult beverages, and watching a Charlie Brown special. But that didn’t stop the players from showing up in numbers to the Sunday majors throughout the afternoon/evening.

This is the second week with the $750,000 Guarantee running in it’s new 17:00ET spot, along with the deeper stacks and later registration, and we once again blasted past the numbers required to cover. Just short of 4,000 entered the tournament and a chop deal laid out two 6-digit paydays for the field (chickface and eyes7475). While the numbers were huge across the board, there was a lack of star power on the four final tables I kept an eye on. Michael Tureniec and Stuart Paterson were the lone red letter pros to manage a top 9 appearance.

With the completion of the weekend’s events, the poker world once again will focus on the Rio in Las Vegas. Your trusty Poker From The Rail gang will make their way back to Flamingo Blvd to watch the world’s longest SnG along with thousands in the crowded Penn & Teller Theater. Plans are underway to wall-to-wall coverage and all the inside information we can bring you. Tomorrow will bring the third and final installment of our November Nine Handicapping and you can find the first two parts linked below.

It’s going to be an exciting week.

JeffMadsenBorgata Big Money Sunday for October 10thFour players walked away from this Big Money Sunday with six digit additions to their bankroll with (annoyingly named) “0—–BM—–0″ taking home $168,306 from the monthly $1,000,000 Guarantee early Monday morning.

It was an interesting day with only the big game finding players working out a deal at the end and every event crushing it’s guarantee. Alex “Kadabra” Keating (not from Family Ties) won over $100,000 for his Sunday Brawl victory with “ArePopke” and “MISSPRODIGY” picking up wins in the $200,000 Guarantee and the Sunday Mulligan. “Oo MADDOX oO” was the player most seen throughout my scanning the tournaments with results in the Sunday Brawl plus both $200,000 and $1,000,000 Guarantees.

In live poker news, the WPT Festa al Lago Main Event is moving into it’s Day 4 with several key Full Tilt players deep in the mix. Jeff Madsen is sitting with second place chips with just 41 players remaining followed by Annette Obrestad and Erik Cajelais. The winner will take home $831,500, a cute trophy, a little face time on TV, and the admiration of every forum fanboy. The non-long haired Steve O’Dwyer leads the pack with other notables including Matt “All In At 420″ Stout, Lyle Berman, Barry Greenstein, Matt Affleck, Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler, and Daniel Alaei. They still have a few more days until the winner is crowned but they are on pace for an exciting final table.

Don’t forget to get working on your FTOPS XVIII satellites which are running around the clock. The next round of big time events kick off on November 10th.

big money sundays landing Big Money Sunday for 10/10/10It was a rather dull week at the tables this weekend as far as big names making big scores but that just meant there was more money for the other players. Of the major tournaments, only the Sunday Brawl found it’s final table players making a deal. The Sunday Mulligan was the top tournament to rail the pros as three top grinders made the final table but unable to complete the deal. Even the traditional star studded $200,000 saw far fewer top pros taking a large chunk of the prizepool.

The big numbers can still be found in the $750,000 Guarantee that continues to offer a significant overlay including $95,600 in added money this week. I suggest players get in this game on a regular basis as this anomaly will not last forever. If you are looking for value, this is your game. This week “-FrederickJame-” fought through the +3,200 player field, refused to take a deal near the end, and collected over $132,000 for his night’s work. Frank “Frank1The1Tank” Calo was the top pro at the final table but could only pull off a 3rd place finish.

The most entertaining final table came at the end of the night in the Sunday Mulligan. Three players of different styles kept things interesting with Faraz “The-Toilet 0″ Jaka, Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy, and Taylor “ElMastermind” McFarland each shooting for the $50,000 prize in the last tournament of the day but all falling short to “WISHIGOTFPPS” in the end. Besides these three, Ryan “HITTHEPANDA” Franklin and Tim “BegsClutch” Begley had their names pop up a few times while I was sweating the majors and Friend of the blog Danny “ALLINDANNY1″ Suied made a final table fun in the Sunday Brawl.

Things are about to pick up speed on the tournament tab in a few weeks as the schedule for FTOPS XVIII was released this week. There will be more than $19,000,000 in prize money this time around across 34 events and satellites are already running. Event #1 kicks off on Wednesday, November 10th with an $800,000 guarantee No Limit Hold’em tournament. Click on the link above for details.

GusHansen WSOPE Big Money Sunday and the World Series of Poker Europe

I promised a fun weekend in the poker world and it delivered. Between the World Series of Poker Europe, the regular Big Money Sunday games, and some other tiny gathering of online poker players, there was plenty of opportunities to see something interesting.

First up across the pond was the start of the WSOP Europe Main Event and the eventual restart of the Highroller Heads Up match between Gus Hansen and Jim Collopy. It’s probably quite obvious from the picture above that Hansen was able to defeat Collopy after an insanely long pause in play. Hansen collected £288,409 for his victory but more importantly was able to put on his first career WSOP bracelet.

In Main Event action, they played down to their final table 9 earlier today with Full Tilt’s Roland de Wolfe sitting right in the middle of the pack. There was tremendous anticipation of a possible showdown between Phil Ivey and Viktor Blom with all the money on the line but it was not to happen. Ivey was one of the early victims and was quickly followed by the man rumored to be “Isildur1″. Greg “FBT” Mueller and Barny Boatman were the other Full Tilt pros who began the day with a final table shot but came up short.

Final table action can be followed on Tuesday with a 5-hour delay on ESPN3.com for many viewers in the U.S. Here are your chip counts:

1 – Dan Fleyshman – 1,946,000
2 – Ronald Lee – 1,899,000
3 – Danny Steinberg – 1,520,000
4 – Roland de Wolfe – 1,377,000
5 – James Bord – 1,331,000
6 – Brian Powell – 842,000
7 – Fabrizio Baldassari – 677,000
8 – Nicolas Levi – 428,000
9 – Marc Inizan – 349,000

Online action presented one of our big names making the $750,000 final table. David “The Dragon” Pham* was in the mix throughout the day with a top stack heading to the final nine but was unable to finish better than 6th. The end came with another of those fun chop deals which found 2nd place finisher “randomcliche” collecting $10,000 more than winner “Eleon222″ and one of the two 6 digit payoffs of the day.

* – not a real dragon

One of the few top online pros to jump out to get my attention was Mohsin “chicagocards1″ Charania who managed a deep run in the $200,000 and just missed a Sunday Brawl final table. Mario “Pwnasaurus” Silvestri also jumped back into the fray with a runner up finish in the $200,000. As the year begins to wind down, it’s just about time to keep an eye on our friends over at Bluff Magazine and their 2010 Online Player of the Year (here’s a hint, you won’t see my ANYWHERE on that table).

You can look for our first post highlighting this year’s November Nine later in the week and the Big Money Sunday results are after the jump.

ScottClements 2010WSOP MiniFTOPS XVII Wraps and Big Monday SundayIt was another massive Sunday on Full Tilt as MiniFTOPS XVII wrapped up it’s run as well as the regularly scheduled Big Monday Sunday tournaments including the ramped up $1,000,000 Guarantee. The MiniFTOPS tournaments alone created over $2,400,000 in prize money alone (over $2.5m if you include the Double Deuce) for tiny buyin. Six-digit wins were being handed out at a steady pace.

The evening wound up with Grayson “The_Dean221″ Nichols collecting the special MiniFTOPS jersey for winning the Main Event along with over $150,000 after making a heads up deal. Matt “I Pay Ur Rent” Iles was the top name at the final table but was only able to finish 8th.

It was a rough series for most of the big name players who often found the waters choppy and unpredictable. There is something to be said of the caliber of play throughout but those who dodged everything were rewarded handsomely in the end. Jeremy “thechemist83″ Gaubert came close to winning Event #22 but settled for a runner up finish. Cardrunner Media Director “pvanharibo” found herself in the middle of a heater with a final table in Event #16 to go along with her victories in the the $42,000 and Turbo $20,000 Guarantees. Taylor “Elmastermind” McFarland seems to be the most well known online grinder to pull out a MiniFTOPS title taking down Event #33 on the last day for $77,000.

While this also wasn’t the greatest series on the world for the red letter pros, Scott Clements continues to prove some weird super power win it comes to the small buyin craziness. He cashed in 7 of the events the entered and he didn’t play every tournament. Jon “Pearljammer” Turner fought his was to a final table 5th place finish in Event #16 for nearly $3,000 and the unofficial title “top red letter pro money winner for MiniFTOPS XVII” (which is tough to put on a trophy).

The big guns were also taking their spots in the Big Money Sunday games only created another $2,000,000 in prize money and the stars came out to play. Word from the Borgata was most of the internet grinders decided their WPT Main Event would be on Saturday to clear up time for Sunday’s grind. Adam “Roothlus” Levy had a nice with a 10th place in the Sunday Brawl and 33rd in the $200,000 Guarantee. Adam “csimmsux” Geyer also finished deep in both the $200k and Sunday Mulligan.  Tom “kingsofcards” Marchese used his day off to work out a runner up finish in the Sunday Mulligan.

There were plenty of big names remaining on the final two tables of the $1,000,000 Guarantee with a chance to win it all including Dave “doubledave22″ D’Alesandro, Vanessa “PrincessDonk” Cheng, Stuart Paterson, James “P0KERPR0″ Campbell, and Chance “Chances Cards” Kornuth. After a 4 way deal was made it was “justgobroke” who took home the title and $150,000 but it was Kyle “KJulius10″ Julius who may have the last laugh for collecting even more ($163,000) for a second place finish.

Your crew here at Poker From the Rail also staked 5 players (writing contest winners) near the end of MiniFTOPS XVII and followed along with their progress.  ”Atlwildguy” finished 781 out of 1,560 in Event #28, while his Razz counterpart took the money and ran, unregistering.  In the Main Event, out of 15,527 entrants, “Skred” finished 12,807, “Flopmearoyal12″ finished 8,644, and “ThePicotrain” finished 1,387, good for $120.

JustinSmith 2010WSOP Big Money Sunday September 5thIt was a fun day all around the poker world yesterday with action all over. There were live tournaments finishing their run in both Cannes and London, huge online tournaments going off, as well as the regular fare of huge guarantee events here for Full Tilt’s Big Money Sunday. The “evening” would not be complete until sunrise on the east coast of the Us but there was plenty to cover.

First up on the evening was some live action railing via the internets to London. The WPT made it’s stop in London were a small but esteemed group of players bought into the High Roller event. In the end it came down to a battle between Tony G and Full Tilt’s Justin “BoostedJ” Smith for the title. I imagine it will make for some great television coverage between the two. Smith came into the event with over $1,500,000 in career tournament earnings but without a major title, in the end he defeated the “jovial” Lithuanian to win the £141,000 first place prize and his first victor photo.

Turning eyes towards the online world we found a crowd favorite come out of retirement for a nice score. Shaun “eff’n” Deebs has never backed away from expressing his opinions or standing behind them which generally puts him in the class of you either love ‘em or hate ‘em. After making a huge splash in the online poker tournaments, Deeb decided to take an extended breather from the grind until recently. Last night he announced his return with a big victory in our $750,000 Guarantee main event of the day for cool $132,787. Welcome back Shaun!

Other honorable mentions for outstanding performance of the day go out to Jon “sketchy1″ Eaton (20th in the Sunday Brawl, 10th in the $200,000), Lauren “locoenlacabeza” Kling (16th in the Sunday Brawl, 27th in the Sunday Mulligan), and Garrett “GBecks” Beckman who almost did the unbelievable by hitting the final table of the $200,000 Double Deuce shove-fest in back-to-back weeks.

But the best results of the day belong to the anonymous “mralan2950″ who followed up his win in the Sunday Brawl by taking down the star studded $200,000 Guarantee rebuy tournament. Finding information on “mralan2950″ is proving to be difficult by they do sport an impressive resume which includes over $1,000,000 in tournament cashes on Full Tilt alone including a Sunday Mulligan title to go along with two victories in the $1k Monday events. For his efforts in just those two events alone, “mralan2950″ collected over $170,000 in prize pool cash. Not a bad night.
