2009 World Series of Poker – Day 2a Pictures
Posted by AlCantHang | Filed under Bloggers on the Rail
Sometimes things just go way over the top when you’re dealing with the biggest poker tournament in the world. You’ll see some crazy things along the rails, loud player disagreements, whack jobs dressed in all types of getups looking for camera attention. Then you have the times when a table pulls the attention of every player and media outlet in the room.
Actor/comedian Brad Garrett drew a table that was far away from the rail and virtually in the center of the blue section. 5 time bracelet and 1984 Main Event winner Berry Johnston was also at the table. Garrett was laughing it up with the players at the table and anyone who would listen. To the point where his table was completely surrounded by every media outlet with a badge to get there. Witness the picture above and below.
Before long players at the other tables were begging the floor staff to deal with the situation. It will certainly make good TV for ESPN when it airs, but neither Garrett or Johnston would move on to Day 3.

2009 World Series of Poker – Main Event Day 1b Pictures

There were plenty of opportunities for more pictures yesterday during the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event Day 1b and some great stories. 655 players of the starting 873 survived the day with even more Tilters moving onto Day 2.
Full Tilt sponsored two players in the Main Event with stories worthy of your interest. Marlon Shirley (pictured right) is a two time Paralympic gold medalist, the first amputee to run the 100 meters in under 11 seconds, and an avid poker player. He came to Las Vegas to play in the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event and the Ante Up for Africa Charity event. I could tell you the rest of the story but it be better to let a proper writer do that duty. Fellow blogger Michael Craig has a great writeup with Shirley’s story here. Unfortunately he was not able to “outrun” his poker opponents to reach Day 2a and will not win WSOP gold.
Also wearing Full Tilt red and white was Jack Ury, at 96 he’s simply the oldest to ever play in the WSOP Main Event. Ury has been adding to his record each year since his first Main Event in 2007 at the chipper age of 94. He was enjoying himself and the ESPN cameras were a constant audience. Ury will have to get his rest over the next few days before he comes in Day 2a with just over 23,000 in chips.

2009 World Series of Poker – Week 3 in Pictures
Posted by AlCantHang | Filed under Bloggers on the Rail
It was another great week for Team Full Tilt. Final tables were populated with players patched up in FTP gear and make a lot of noise. Three bracelets would be brought into the fold by Phil Ivey, Nick Schulman and Greg “FBT” Mueller. If the rest of the poker world wants to catch up, they better start working hard.
It’s Friday so that means it’s time for the Week in Pictures. These are just some of the collection that did not make any posts during the week but are worthy of your time
View of the final table of Event #27 Pot Limit Omaha/8. Three Full Tilt members were present but Roland De Wolfe would defeat Omaha-guru Scott Clements for the title.

2009 World Series of Poker – Day 21 From the Rail

Fabrice Soulier playing in the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. tournament
The promising day for Full Tilt turned into several final table performances but no more bracelets. John Juanda was unable to build up his short stack at the Pot Limit Omaha table finishing 9th and Ross Boatman had a bad run of cards to go from final table chip leader to a 4th place finish. Full Tilter Fabrice Soulier was the last great hope of the evening to collect an FTP bracelet in the $1,500 HORSE tournament but bowed out in 7th. This was Soulier’s 5th cash during the 2009 World Series of Poker putting him in a three-way tie for most cashes.
With only one new tournament starting on the day, it was easy to make my way through the rail. It also meant quite a few pros showed up for the regularly scheduled $1,500 NLHE game, many looking for a quick double up or go home. A few big names survived the day including Allen Cunningham, Paul Wasicka and Roland De Wolfe. Phil Hellmuth also made Day 2 and will start the day near the top of the leaderboard.
Jennifer Harman began the day leading the $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship but slipped a little as the day wore on. Only 18 players made the money and they finished the day at 3am with 12 players still remaining. Harman made the money but will start Day 3 on the short stack.
The crazies must have taken a day off as well. It almost seemed like a normal day at the casino if you discount the thousands and thousands of players taking their shot.
Day 22 will be fun. The NHL will be in the Amazon Room.
