It was a fairly easy prediction to say the Razz tournament would not crown a winner before the “hard stop” but I was shocked to find the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event also stuck in a heads up situation. It’s especially bizarre considering the amount of action which occurred at the start of the final table including Brazilian Andre Akkari knocking out two players in a massive three way all-in which drew some of the biggest cheers of the summer.
Full Tilt pros Robert Williamson III and Andreas Krause both had fantastic opportunities to pick up a bracelet when both made the Razz final table, Williamson sitting near the top of the chip counts most of the day. Perhaps the jovial Williamson is too happy for success in a game built on making the worst hand, he was sent to the rail in 4th place shortly after Krause.
We are left with two bonus poker days, both looking at heads up matches, neither has a guaranteed winner. The $1,000 No Limit Hold’em Event #45 returns with 21 players in the field, bonus poker tomorrow also.
Event #43: $1,000 No Limit Hold’em
1 – Nachman Berlin – 9,465,000
2 – Andre Akkari – 3,400,000
Event #44: $2,500 Seven Card Stud Razz

2 – Rep Porter- 1,080,000
Day 2 of the favorite $10,000 No Limit Hold’em 6-Handed Championship kicks off at 2:30 this afternoon with a nice mix of online and live pros. 162 of the starting 474 players return and the top chipstacks include 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Joe Cada, top online players Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul and Nick “Grippolio” Grippo, recent bracelet winner Ben “benba” Lamb, pros McLean Karr and Jake Cody.
We expect the action to be fast and furious despite the deepstacks, they will be opening up their range in the short handed format and pushing around the dead money.
Event #46: No Limit Hold’em 6-Handed Championship
1 – Alan Sternberg – 260,600
2 – Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul – 242,600
3 – Ben “benba” Lamb – 223,000
4 – Joe Cada – 208,800
5 – James Sowers – 203,900
6 – Jake Cody – 198,900
7 – Mclean Karr – 196,800
8 – Farzad Bonyadi – 190,800
9 – Jamie Armstrong – 190,000
10 – Nick “Grippolio” Grippo – 185,600
Other Notables: David Benefield (174,700), Isaac Baron (161,700), Dwyte Pilgrim (160,500), Fabrice Soulier (159,600), Steve “gboro780″ Gross (141,000), Phil Laak (140,500), John Racener (138,500), Dan Kelly (131,900), Praz Bansi (124,700), Tristan “CRE8IVE” Wade (115,300), James Akenhead (114,900), Justin “BoostedJ” Smith (105,800)
While our Ms. Jones bubbled the Razz event, we never miss a chance to post her picture

The “fun table” of the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. with Lacey Jones and Gavin Smith
Walking into the Rio today reminds me of the first year they ran the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em “Stimulus Special” tournament in 2009. The hallways packed to the gills with an incredibly long registration line that still stretched forever when cards went in the air at noon. Saturday afternoon $1,500 NLHE is the reason with tables in both the Pavilion and Amazon Rooms. No telling what the official of entrants will be when registration closes prior to the fifth level but it’s a great sign. Likely the biggest Day 1 of the summer so far.
I suspect media row will be a little more subdued than normal as the remnants of the WSOP Launch party hosted by Maria Ho went into the wee hours of the morning (your trusty blogger being one of the few to ditch out and be responsible) but those who survived will have a great day ahead of them. Two events will play down to a winner including the packed final nine in the $10,000 Deuce to Seven No Limit Championship.
The resumes of those final players show 21 bracelets and $22,000,000 in career WSOP career earnings. Those numbers would have been blow up even further had 10-time bracelet Johnny Chan not finished in 12th. Joe Cassidy is the lone player without WSOP gold but had the chops and chips to hang with everyone. David “Bakes” Baker is the defending champion in this event and sitting pretty in third place to begin the day.
But all eyes will be on the “Poker Brat” Phil Hellmuth will be looking to extend his career bracelet lead over Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson with his 12th WSOP bracelet. Once they reach the final table 7, action will be moved to the ESPN “Mothership” stage for a classic battle.
1 – Richard Ashby – 700,000
2 – Joe Cassidy – 540,000
3 – David “Bakes” Baker – 492,000
4 – Steve Sung – 441,000
5 – Hasan Habib – 437,000
6 – Greg Raymer – 355,000
7 – Phil Hellmuth – 339,000
8 – Nick Schulman – 306,000
9 – John Juanda – 171,000
The other bracelet awarded today will be in the $1,500 Pot Limit Hold’em tournament which has the forum monkeys all atwitter as Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler comes into the day sitting 2nd out of 10 and looking for his first WSOP bracelet. The forum favorite will have a heavy rail this afternoon when the start the final day of the event.
1 – Brian Rast – 1,081,000
2 – Allen Kessler – 618,000
3 – Ali Eslami – 402,000
4 – John Gordon – 380,000
5 – Ronald Lee – 198,000
6 – Andrew Cohen – 190,000
7 – Mika Paasonen – 187,000
8 – Daisuke Endo – 174,000
9 – Ted Lawson – 140,000
10 – Dajuan Whorley – 85,000
The yearly $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. tournament continues to be a popular draw with the players and yesterday’s Day 1 drew another record crowd with 963 entrants. Even with the limit structure, only 185 players survived to make Day 2 and attempt to make a final table. Full Tilt Poker’s Eli Elezra leads the field with fellow FTP pro Svetlana Gromenkova not far behind.
1 – Eli Elezra – 92,100
2 – Nicholas Kost – 73,600
3 – Julien Renard – 67,600
4 – Samuel Ngai – 66,300
5 – Svetlana Gromenkova – 56,800
6 – Cody Munger – 55,500
7 – Justin Schwartz – 54,700
8 – Victor Ramdin – 52,100
9 – Antoine Amourette – 51,500
10 – Josh Schlein – 50,800
Other notables: Lyle Berman (49,700), Yuval “yuvee04″ Bronshtein (49,500), David Bach (38,000), Bob Lauria (37,700), John D’Agostino (37,600), Ylon Schwartz (31,300), David Chiu (29,500), Dan Michalski (28,700), Layne Flack (28,700), Allen Bari (28,400)

After a weekend chock full of huge final tables, the Amazon Room will host just one final table today. The 7-handed Deuce-to-Seven No Limit features Jason Mercier, Bernard Lee, and Josh Brikis. On top of the bracelet and first place money, Lee and Brikis are currently sitting on the bubble to qualify for the upcoming FS+G campaign. They will return at 3pm to play on the main stage and WSOP live stream. Winner will collect $102,105.
1 – Matt Perrins – 293,000
2 – Bernard Lee – 265,000
3 – Chris Bjorin – 197,500
4 – Thomas Fuller – 168,000
5 – Josh Brikis – 119,000
6 – Robin Rightmire – 107,000
7 – Jason Mercier – 89,000
The first $1,000 No Limit Hold’em event of the summer drew 4,178 players over the two starting days. These tournaments are when the tournament area is nicknamed “the killing floor” as players bust out at an astounding rate. Only 624 survived to make Day 2 and 423 of those will make the money. The bubble should come quickly. They will restart the tournament at 2:30pm, top 10 and notable chip stacks listed below.
1 – Charles Sewell – 137,350
2 – Jon “Pearljammer” Turner – 99,200
3 – John Droutsas – 90,602
4 – Albert Kim – 74,675
5 – Amar Tiwari – 73,825
6 – Jason Koon – 73,075
7 – John Eames – 70,250
8 – Michael Malm – 65,975
9 – Adam Lippert – 63,200
10 – DID NOT REPORT – 61,650
Other notables: Kenny “Supertuan” Nguyen (46,5000, Phil “USCPhildo” Collins (45,875), Jonathan Duhamel (45,525), Shane Schleger (41,300), Marc Karam (38,950), Annette Obrestad (38,100), Gavin Griffin (38,050), Layne Flack (37,575), Eric Mizrachi (21,550), Lacey Jones (17,425), David Chiu (17,000), Kara Scott (15,625), John Phan (15,200)
Two new events today in the Rio that should generate plenty of interest from across the board. The noon event will be the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em 6-handed tourament which draws a large field with the cream of the online crop. Later in the day we’ll see another Championship event with the $10,000 Limit Omaha/8 tournament with Sammy Farha coming in as the defending title holder.
Remember to keep an eye out on our @FullTiltPoker twitter and Facebook page for updates during the day. The Fantasy WSOP contest is also up and running for non-US players, get in the game and challenge your favorite pros.

We are coming to the end of another year which means it is time to reflect back on the last 12 months and evaluate. In the real world it means taking stock of failures and success over the past year to improve your place in society. In the poker world it usually means checking the balance sheets to see how much you owe your backers.
It also brings along several year end polls and our friends at BLUFF Magazine have released one of my favorites with their Reader’s Choice Awards. They are trying to gauge our favorites in 14 categories including Poker Hostess, Poker TV Show, and Poker Moment. I posted my votes last year, catching some well deserved smack along the way from readers, so I thought I would give it another shot. Below you will find the categories, nominees, and my votes are highlighted. Give it a read and let me have it.
Voting is open until January, 16th and you can cast your vote on the BLUFF Magazine Reader’s Choice Awards here.
Favorite Poker Hostess
Gloria Balding – Poker News
Lacey Jones – Doubles Poker Championship
Kimberly Lansing – World Poker Tour
Amanda Leatherman – The Big Game
Kara Scott – High Stakes Poker
They couldn’t start me with an easy one? Everyone on this list is great but I limited my choices to Gloria Balding and Lacey Jones. I’ve known them the longest and two of my favorite people in poker. In the end I voted for Ms. Jones who has been a long time friend and co-conspirator when it is time to sneak off during the WSOP. Lacey has done a great job as an ambassador for Full Tilt Poker and anyone willing to get blinded off in a tournament while we “catch up” at the Borgata B-Bar gets my vote every time.
Favorite Poker Announcer
Norman Chad – World Series of Poker
Gabe Kaplan – High Stakes Poker
Ali Nejad – Poker After Dark
Mike Sexton – World Poker Tour
Joe Stapleton – The Big Game
Norman Chad grates on my last nerve, Gabe Kaplan is dull on his own, Mike Sexton has to deal with a boat anchor (with great hair), and Two Jacks Joe is the new kid on the block. That leaves Ali Nejad to get my vote as the announcer on my pick for favorite poker show. I think next year Joe Stapleton will be a lock for this award.
Favorite Poker TV Show
The Big Game
High Stakes Poker
Poker After Dark
World Poker Tour
World Series of Poker
It’s probably sacrilege to admit I’m not a big fan of watching poker on TV. Whether it’s the forced inter-personal relationships, editing tweaks for maximum suspense, or inane banter disguised as commentary, I’d rather read a good book. But occasionally I will turn on the TV and find one of the above. I generally prefer Poker After Dark which keeps my attention the best with their lineup, format, and side action. It feels a little like a home game when you see Mr. Phil Ivey himself keeping track of prop bets during the game.
Favorite Web-based Poker Show
The Poker Beat-Poker Road Radio
The Poker Edge
TwoPlusTwo Pokercast
This Week in Poker
Inside Deal
I like every one of these options. Each has it’s own voice and all very entertaining. If I judge by which show I catch the most, This Week in Poker gets my vote. Brought to us by the entities of Wicked Chops Poker, this show differs from the others in that it is very much live. The show is a webcast on Tuesdays with new guests each week and poker updates from BLUFF’s Jess Welman. I miss a few of the podcasts but I rarely miss an episode of This Week in Poker.
Favorite Poker Blog
Hard-Boiled Poker
Pokerati.com
Tao of Poker
Wicked Chops Poker
I personally know everyone in this category making it almost a coin flip. Shamus has long been overlooked in this category, I’m voting for the WCP boys above, and I’d vote for Pokerati if Dan Michalski showed up to the Amazon Room on occasion (just jokes, Pokerati Dan is good peeps). In my second homer pick I vote for Dr. Pauly from Tao of Poker.
Pauly set the standard for tournament reporting before it became the popular career choice of fan boys and groupies. You wanted the inside scoop, you went to Tao of Poker. While he spent a good part of the year polishing up his novel Lost Vegas, he still brought the fast ball when it was needed.
Favorite Poker Forum
BluffMagazine.com
FullContactPoker.com
PocketFives.com
TwoPlusTwo.com
I hate forums to the very bottom of my soul. Even our very own Full Tilt Poker forum. Whatever useful information you can find is generally buried beneath 5,000 pointless, rude, and insane comments. If I must pick a “winner” for this category I will go with TwoPlusTwo.com since they have given us the most support here at Poker From the Rail.
I’m going to take a shower before the next catagory.
Funniest Poker Twitterer
Dan Bilzerian
Doyle Brunson
Mike Matusow
Scotty Nguyen
Erik Seidel
Last year I received some grief from our readers for picking Joe Sebok over Erik Seidel. I won’t make that mistake again this year with the choice fairly easy. Texas Dolly brings the blonde jokes, Matusow the punctuationaly challenged (blog writers are allowed to make up words), Scotty Nguyen baby baby bay, and Bilzerian is *redacted*. Seidel wins for the funny and consistency.
Favorite Online Poker Site
Cake Poker Network
CEREUS
Full Tilt Poker
PokerStars
Seriously?
I guess I should give some justification. The other site’s high limit games are Full Tilt’s mid-level warm ups.
Favorite Las Vegas Poker Room
Aria
The Bellagio
Caesars Palace
The Venetian
Wynn Las Vegas
Aria is making a strong push for the big cash games but The Bellagio is still the place to go for most out of town poker players. The locals choice seems to flip between Aria and The Venetian but I’m sticking with my tourist trap vote.
Favorite East Coast Poker Room
The Borgata
Foxwoods Resort Casino
Hard Rock Seminole
Mohegan Sun
There is no longer a need to risk your life in Atlantic City by going near the boardwalk for the Taj or Trop. The Borgata has the best poker room and they serve actual beer in actual bottles if that’s your thing. The Borgata is my home casino and I’ve yet to visit the other sites so consider this homer pick #3.
Favorite California Poker Room
Bay101
The Commerce Casino
The Bicycle Casino
Hawaiian Gardens Casino
Hollywood Park Casino
You need to visit a California poker room to understand why the are affectionately called “card barns”. Massive space with tables as far as you can see. I’ve yet to visit Bay101 but the other four are mind blowing for an east coaster who thought a 100 table room was massive. My choice is The Commerce because it’s where I had my first California poker experience and they offer the Matt Savage run L.A. Poker Classic.
Break Performance of the Year
Daniel “jungleman12″ Cates
Sam Chauhan
Frank Kassela
Alexander Kostritsyn
Tom Marchese
This is a tough call once you eliminate voodoo doctor Sam Chauhan from the mix. Dan “jungleman12″ Cates is crushing in the durrrr Challenge and has won over $4,000,000 in 2010 alone. Frank Kassela only won the 2010 WSOP Player of the Year with 6 cashes, 2 bracelets plus a second and third place showing. Alexander Kostritsyn only believes in cashing in the WSOP if it’s worth over $100,000, which he did three times this for $536,000.
Tom Marchese just makes final tables. His 2010 includes seven final tables, two victories, and nearly $1,500,000 in tournament cash. His final tables came in WSOP, NAPT, EPT, and WPT events. Welcome to the live poker world Mr. Marchese.
Favorite Online Poker Resource
Cardrunners
HighStakesDB
PokerTableRankings
SharkScope
ThePokerDB
This job requires a lot of research when covering online tournaments. ThePokerDB has always been my first choice for checking player histories and statistics, not a hard vote.
Favorite Moment of 2010
Annie Duke Wins Heads-Up Event
Michael Mizrachi Wins Player’s Championship
Phil Ivey Wins 8th Bracelet
Tom Dwan Finishes Runner-Up in WSOP event
Each of these moments deserves it’s spot in the category but Tom Dwan’s final table trumps Phil Ivey’s 8th bracelet because of the atmosphere. Going for his first bracelet, sky high prop bets, and the $10,000 Stud Championship a few yards away created a setting that was electric. I challenge anyone to find a more exciting $1,500 NLHE WSOP final table.
There you have my selections for the BLUFF Magazine Reader’s Choice Awards. No one will completely agree with my votes but I am open minded. Convince me of a wrong selection and I just might change my mind. Vote early, vote often, and wait for the results in 2011.

It was another crazy week around the halls of Full Tilt this week as things kept coming at us one after another. Emails were coming in on a regular basis with news and updates faster than we could keep up. The two biggest stories this week were obviously the latest “durrrr Challenge” as well as the Open Letter to the Commerce Casino but there were other bits that didn’t make the cut. This weekend brings the latest edition of Sit n Go Madness, the Big Little Tournament ($2 buyin, $100,000 prizepool), and non-stop satellites running for MiniFTOPS XVII.
Here are 5 of the top stories that grabbed my attention, details after the jump.
1. “durrrr Challenge 2″ is underway between Tom Dwan and Daniel “jungleman12″ Cates. We have all the details and a short interview with Dwan.
2. Howard Lederer and other top players release an open letter to the Commerce Casino voicing their displeasure over the casino’s stance on HR 2267.
3. Episode 3 of the Doubles Poker Championship airs this weekend on GSN.
4. Full Tilt’s Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi appears on ESPN’s Poker Edge podcast.
5. The Full Tilt Merit Cyprus Classic comes to an end, Gloria Balding and Fillipo Candio take a flying leap.

There were plenty of stories from the FTOPS XVII first half which could be used to kickoff our mid-term report but Chris Ferguson pushed them all to the bottom early this morning. A stellar field remained late into the evening of Event #13, the biggest prizepool of this series with a prizepool over $1,400,000, with Chris Ferguson being the premier player still alive. There were still 5 tables remaining 8 hours into the tournament with Steve Brecher, Brent “Bhanks11″ Hanks, Matt “All In At 420″ Stout, and Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet among those vying for the title.
Ferguson and Hanks would be the only of those to make it through to the final table. Ferguson would fall just short of winning his first FTOPS event in 5th place after running his AQ into Aces, tough cooler when 5 handed. He will be comforted by his near $70,000 in prize money.
History Note: Only five Full Tilt pros have won an FTOPS event. Erick Lindgren, David “The Dragon” Pham*, Gavin Smith, Greg “FBT” Mueller, and Berry Johnston. Lindgren’s victory camer in the event he was hosting during FTOPS VII.
Prior to Ferguson’s run, Jeff Madsen was getting the move FTOPS love amongst the red letter pros. Madsen jumped out early this series with a 3rd place showing in the 6-max Shootout Event #3 and adding 2 other cashes. Several other pros had multiple cashes over the first week including 2010 November Niner John Racener and WSOP signee Lacey Jones. One of our newest pros, Melanie Weisner, hosted her first FTOPS event but was overshadowed by her brother Andrew “SkillVille” Weisner. The male Weisner battle past the other 1,826 players in the Event #9 rebuy to pick up the victory and the ~$110,000. “Callisto 5″ Weisner now has some work to catch her brother.
Other tournament notes as well as FTOPS XVII results and the “Completely Unofficial Red Letter Pro Leaderboard” after the jump.

It was an oddly quiet week in the Rio this week with a few rare day with only one new event and some without a final table. That all changed as the week closed out when we found ourselves with 6 or 7 tournaments running at the same time. Richard Ashby became the second Full Tilt pro to win a bracelet at the 2010 WSOP and can be seen above collecting it from Tournament Director Jack Effel.
There was the always present controversy surrounding the annual Ladies Event but that didn’t stop them from coming in with a huge field. There were a few $10,000 Championship events which drew small, strong fields for the battle and big prizepool. During the Limit Hold’em Championship we had a few pros who were sweating the action during the Celtics/Lakers NBA Championship game, certainly with big money on the line. Mike Matusow is also pictured below sweating a prop bet with David Benyamine concerning the number of entrants.
After the jump you can find the rest of Heather B’s pictures from Week 3 at the 2010 World Series of Poker including a few new shots of the latest Perry Friedman “Parade of Hats”.

It’s one of those fun days in the Rio when poker meets the outside world of sports, while we watch thousands of players take their shot at the next $1,000 pushfest a lot of the players will also have their eyes on the monitors scattered throughout the Pavilion Room showing the USA versus England World Cup soccer match. One of the great things about poker is bringing people together from around the world all with a rooting interest in their countries team.
We’re told the Pavilion Room exploded in applause when the England keeper gifted the US a goal.
Saturday means they stormed the Rio again for another version of the lowest buyin open event at the WSOP, the Pavilion Room is packed solid with few pro players today but a flock of those looking to turn their grand into a bracelet. We also have the Ladies event returning for Day 2 with the 6-handed Limit Hold’em tournament. Two more bracelets will be awarded where Tilt has another chance to add collect it’s second win of the series.
Full Tilt pros Jon “Pearljammer” Turner and Richard Ashby will sit down for the $1,500 Seven Card Stud final table this afternoon which is led by Sorel Mizzi. Nenad Medic returns to the final day of the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha as the massive chip leader, finishing a day that remarkably saw both events hit their final table on schedule. Both final tables will be split between the two main ESPN stages and should have an active rail.
$1,500 Seven Card Stud final table:
1 – Sorel Mizzi – 435,000
2 – Darrne Shebell – 320,000
3 – Richard Ashby – 276,000
4 – Dan Heimiller – 241,000
5 – Pat Pezzin – 211,000
6 – Christine Pietsch – 193,000
7 – Jon “Pearljammer” Turner – 83,000
8 – Owais Ahmed – 78,000
$1,500 Pot Limit Omaha final table:
1 – Nenad Medic – 1,504,000
2 – Tex Barch – 546,000
3 – Trai Dang – 500,000
4 – Klinghammer Thibaut – 366,000
5 – Ashkan Razavi – 294,000
6 – Blair Rodman – 272,000
7 – Chris Chang – 195,000
8 – Denton Pfister – 167,000
9 – Tyler Patterson – 139,000
The $1,000 Ladies Championship will also play down to their final table with newest Full Tilt pro Lacey Jones in the mix as well as Full Tilt Poker Academy’s Lizzy Harrison. There was a lot of steam going around yesterday about the pros/cons/disaster that is the Ladies Tournament. Your humble reporter will stay out of the mix and pull for our friends along with various friends of the blog including Michele Lewis, Maria Ho, and Bluff Magazine’s Jess Welman.

Welcome to my least favorite day of the entire WSOP where we kicked off Event #22: $1,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship. This event draws more and more criticism as the years go by no matter your opinion on the event. Some feel it is sexist, some feel it’s separatist. Some vocally boycott the tournament while we also have some “men” who will dress up as a joke to enter the event. Everyone seems to have a strong opinion on the subject.
Which is why I will be spending the day camped out in the pressbox gathering updates and avoiding the subject. Last year a colleague at a competing site put his opinions down in print and was immediately blasted by one of their top pros. I will not be making that mistake. Today we look forward to crowning two new champions with two members of Team Full Tilt looking for a big payday and pretty jewelry. I will still be keeping an eye on the Ladies Event as it features one of your newest pro, Full Tilt announced earlier today the signing of Lacey Jones (that is her on the right, for the 1% of the reading audience who doesn’t know).
The $10,000 NL Deuce to Seven final ten players will return this afternoon to determine this year’s champion. We have to Full Tilt pros at opposite ends of the bracelet spectrum, both with a good shot at the title. Erik Seidel will be trying to tie Johnny Moss with his 9th career WSOP win while Andy Bloch once again hopes to capture his elusive first. A victory today will give John Juanda his 5th bracelet and nearly $300,000. Day 3 starting chip counts below.
1 – David “Bakes” Baker – 526,000
2 – George Danzer – 425,000
3 – Eric Cloutier – 366,000
4 – Doug Booth – 359,000
5 – Erik Seidel – 280,000
6 – Eric Kesselman – 247,000
7 – John Monnette – 238,000
8 – John Juanda – 225,000
9 – Daniel Negreanu – 223,000
10 – Andy Bloch – 146,000
We will return later in the day with updates, a Lacey Jones profile, and our pictures of the week.
